Today was the first outing in my bro's new race car and Mallory park was the destination.

This car finished 2nd last year in the clio cup touring cars, I expected this to be good fun but bloody hell this car has blown me away!!!

I can honestly say this car is like nothing I've ever been in before, I seriously can't believe how this thing corners and goes through the gears (knock box), It's a total animal thats blown everything on the track today

Here's a few pics not the best but thought I'd show his car:

Awesome little cars mate, I came up against a white one on slicks @ oulton, think he was only young driving it, but fook me did it corner:smokin:

Out of interest, how much do these things fetch, a lhd one is definitely on the radar for me at some point.

Mate he only had a wet set on today (dry track) I can't wait to get a go in it with the slicks on

He bought it off a race team at Chesterfield on the doorstep for £22k with out the trailer but the after sales from the guy is unreal, a wheel bearing let go today and the guy he bought it off rang my bro to see how his first track day in it went and offered to replace it free of charge:smt055

My bro is planning on a lot more track days this year now mate, I'll introduce myself if I spot you on one and get you a go in it.

Thanks for the kind offer Shane

The way the white one cornered was unreal, mind, so was the negative camber it was running

Only thing that puts me off is trailering to and from, tried it with the MK, and I would rather just get in car drive to track-do track day-then drive home.

Im offski now for a butchers, see if I can see any

They are fun but I cannot get on with them, by brain just doesn't understand FWD any more.

Lawsy - they are all LHD, stick some slicks on your car and you's go faster anyway, certainly on the faster tracks, and you could drive it to the circuit. They are too low powered to be properly quick over a lap, good in the corners as you say but suspect on a trackday you'd get bored of getting caught up behind people in the corners only for them to fuck off on the straights? As an indication the pole times for clio cup (which you won't get near unless you are properly quick with a proper setup and on fresh rubber) are slower in some cases than a GT3 on road tyres.

But proper race cars built to high standards by Renault. Second hand prices are quite low, the guys in TDt end of last year bought threes for £15k but they need proper support and reasonably frequent rebuild on gearboxs and alike to stay reliable, like most out and out racers.

The one in TDt was running 56.4 s laps at Brands Indy just a tad faster than CSL, about sadism slower than CSL Cup standard class (Curly) in 2009 and only about 1.5 secs slower than a 20 year old mx5 in the ma5da championship

But I still want one!

Last Brands pole was 52.1 in Clio cup, that is one of the circuits that suits them.

Last time they were at Donny pole was 1:18.8, no one else in the 19s, some trackday guys in GT3s are in the 17s, last year at Snet pole time was 1:17.9, a few were slower than Shim in his CSL on road tyres.

Not sure how true but tales of the top teams stripping the boxes between each round for inspection, box rebuild every year etc.

Spend a little more and get a Seat Leon Super Copa, quicker than a G50 or a 996 Cup car, proper weapon.

Yep, my times were all semi slick road Tyres and novice drivers (apart from mx5 which were better drivers and Hankook road Tyres.

The Clio looks like a decent little package though you have to admit especially for entry level racing, but I think the costs could be a lot higher than expected for maintenance

I had a blast against a seat super copa @oulton in the csl, I was running 1.56 1 lap and rest in 1.57's that day. He was same pace, if not a fraction slower. It did corner well, it was on slicks too. It was 300bhp.

I know its not concrete proof etcetc, as we dont know if the guy was very fast, but he was certainly trying and he races the thing, amongst other cars.
And I know trackdays are nothing like racing, but its the only thing I have to go on.

I am certainly keeping options open,

I want to race, thats why I bought the MK, but this years a no no with bambino 2 on the way. Very busy year this yr and next.

The seat appeals as the DSG is pretty good and we know the VW scene very well, a few friends own VW tuning companies.

Trust me matey, with an equal driver the Seat is miles quicker, when they ran as BTCC support they had to be slowed down so as not be lapping quicker than the touring cars!

Guess the problem with all these things is in order to get to the original pace you have to spend money, keep on top of set up & refresh intervals and most of all fresh tyres and be a quick driver. I suspect that getting the last 5% out of these things is pretty hard?

There is 2 secs a lap on my car between old tyres and new ones, but I'm fucked if I'm wasting a grand of tyres on a trackday, guess the same is true of most of these cars on trackdays too.

As an idea, in slowed down form in 2008 the qually times were as follows all at the same meets so should all be similar conditions:

Circuit ------------ Clio ------ Seat

Brands Indy ------- 52.7 ----- 50.1
Snet -------------- 1:17.5 --- 1:12.9
Donny ------------ 1:18.4 --- 1:14.7
OP Island --------- 1:35.3 ---- 1:29.2

Seat sport have a 330bhp map, you can go higher if you want but I wouldn't personally, fit the AP Pro5000 brake kit and you have a properly fast car.

You certainly ain't getting in the 12s at Snet or 14s at Donny in a CSL on road tyres!

Thats some very fast times mate, as I said I only had the trackday to go on, which frankly means fuch all.

They certainly are a future consideration,

thanks for the info

1.29 is top csl cup spec pace at oulton, not too shabby, and I imagine cheaper to run too

The mk goes up for sale and this is a very possible future purchase

Need to get the Evo all done, then get rid of mk and I'll be Clio/seat hunting

Got a busy yr so get it out the way then try to race
