View Full Version : Fook me! Cup prices...

So my track wheel plans for 2011 are to run 18"s with full fat Cup tyres... :smokin:

I already have a pair of rear tyres courtesy of Lawsy so i rang Elite tyres in Rainham today to enquire about the 265/35/18 fronts. I usually tend to find Elite are the best for new Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tyre prices and availability.

Firstly, 18" Cups are not so easy to come by as they are only for 'motorsport re-seller' supply but Elite were able to get them at least.

Then there was the price...

£355 per fooking tyre! £75 more than the CSL 19" fronts... :bigcry:

I dread to think what the 285/30/18 rears would be new! Makes me wonder whether switching to 18" was a good move... :banghead:

As an aside, i asked them about the Michelin Super Sport tyre release date but they have yet to be told when that will be. I may just buy a full set of these instead if the prices are better than Cups!

Offer not to be sniffed at

Tried my supper this week and no go. Seems someone at HQ has put a block on it.

Don't forget non OEM size Michelin Cups in UK all come (in theory) via Protyre so they price them as they like.

Monopoly is a bad thing shimmy.

It just occured to me that I get my cups from Germany and the guy delivers them in my home for 25 euros per set.
The big plus is that I don't have to pay the 20% VAT and in your case boys that you live in UK you won't have to pay at all VAT (I have to pay 8% for the import in CH).
I have seen that for the OEM sizes the German guy was 20% cheaper than the reifendirekt prices  and also has very good service.

Has anyone used Tyre Shop?

OEM cup sizes coming out at £1160. I assume there proper cups and not cup+ but need to check.

This seems a good price?

Good price mate, nice find! Have just had a look and they look good to me!

What's the deal on mytyres at the moment then, 2 Cups listed on there in 235/35/19 size, one is N1 and one 'normal' yet £30 difference in price!?

Last time I checked mytyres were over 1200 I think. Is N1 the porsche OEM stamp? needed for warranty?

Ill give Tyre shop a call tomorrow double check and order a set.

Stand down. Tyre Shop called back to say its the Cup+ and the site needs changing. (Said he didnt know there was a difference until I asked him to check)

Full cups coming out at £1324 from them. He said Michelin had confirmed they were stopping making them soon though.

Price for Super Sports from him was £1000 delivered. :smokin:

That might have been complete bollox...but it came up when he mentioned the S/Sports. Said if I needed to source a single or 2 tyres in the future it might be difficult as they wont be in production soon. Thus more sensible to go with S/S. feck knows how they compare to cups though

Pilot sport cups on 265/35/18 are £268 so sailorbaz the lad on another forum must have been quoted for 19's not 18's

You can just tell that they know what they are talking about when it comes to Cup tyres and the differences between them and Cup+/PS2, etc... :smt120 :banghead:

BTW, my price of £355 for a full fat Cup 265/35/18 was including VAT and delivered. I suspect matey's price would be without VAT...

http://www.evo.co.uk/news/evonews/236977/trackday_tyres_to_be_outlawed.html

I think that's why Michelin have developed the Super Sport tyre with supposedly 'almost Cup like grip in the dry' and improved wet grip performance over the PS2 tyre.

I want to see if these claims hold up and want to try a set
