Suspension has 3 control options, Gaz Pro, Avo and Spax (certain size only) and springs are free.

we went for Avo and ae due to deliver car 27 (our first one) next week to their unit to get them to check the car over with the dampers to make sure all is well before we buy the rest.

The cars are very simple but 20 years old so everything takes twice as long

Rather than use the 20 yr old Eunos lumps as they turn up we have decided to make all the cars full front running race spec (even if the drivers are not)

The engines have gone off to Chase in Congleton and we have done as much to them under the regs as we can. This is limited but also helps with reliability during the year.

Hopefully we have gained with some RR tuning about 15bhp on a 115bhp engine.

Which hair salon is sponsoring the series?

In all fairness though, it is a very competitive series - you need some good race craft to win, best of luck shimster. If the Golf GTi championship is ever sharing a meeting with the mincing Mazdas in 2011, come and say hello - we'll be near some manly looking golfs........

our first car, Car 27, now is complete except for graphics and advertising. It was at AVO last week getting dampers checked and we are due to run it in at Bruntingthorpe next week.

Next in the line is TerryBs Car 111 which is nearly at the same stage except for dampers. seanD and Houseys follow behind but all due to be run in and ready by 10th March.

We are planning some test/track days in March at Snetterton, Rockingham and Silverstone, our first three race locations. those at the at Snetterton track day on 6th March should see 3 of our cars out so please NorthernJim get out of the way.

We had car 27 (blue) and 111 (green) out today at Bruntingthorpe doing 300 miles each and an oil change as a new engine run in. Both survived unscathed and both were performing well.

Car27 off for dyno and tune on Friday, and we pick up another rebuilt race engine, two cages and shave 20 Tyres.

AVO are delivering this week now new dampers sets for us to trial with two different spring rates at Silverstone 1 March on two separate cars. Our other car that ran last year has Gaz Gold so it will be interesting jumping between the cars before we decide what to settle with.

Onwards and upwards

A little update for those queers that are interested..........

We had three cars out at Silverstone on Tuesday for the Mazda-On -Track track and test day on the Arena GP circuit. A new concept of track and test day combined. Everybody pays and gets the Trackday but for two one hour periods the cars on track are limited to Race Cars (ARDS drivers) with full race gear on and extinguishers armed, no holes barred testing AND you are allowed if they are brave enough an ARDS instructor next to you!

http://i401.photobucket.com/albums/pp97/shimmylasco/ShimmyRacing/fdabfbf7.png

Well TerryB(green car) Clive(blue car) and Martin (red car) took full advantage and Mike Wilds was our instructor. my brother shared the garage in his Caterham and Matt and Gemma from Tracktoys were our support for the day taking pyro readings an adjusting set up. We also were trailing two set ups for the AVO dampers we are using, two spring rates and two ride heights, as well as a third car on Gaz shocks.

http://i401.photobucket.com/albums/pp97/shimmylasco/ShimmyRacing/f30fce1f-1.png

Damp start to the day, a bit slippy at Copse and Stowe, and Maggots/Becketts complex was treacherous. the guys got used to the cars and running the DL 1 loggers and we fixed a few water leaks and seat and harness issues. By afternoon we had lost one engine (Martins older red car) so we were down to 2 cars and my bruv in is Caterham (upgraded this winter from Academy to RoadsportB).

http://i401.photobucket.com/albums/pp97/shimmylasco/ShimmyRacing/07c15ea6.png

As always instruction proved invaluable. My brother improved by 6 secs with mike over 2 sessions which was huge. Apart from teaching you how to take corners with speed and how to distribute the weight correctly for each corner, he can demonstrate so cleanly how fast the car can go in the right hands. we have no doubt that if he would have had this in 2010 he would have been in for podium contention all through the summer and autumn and a possible win on the last race instead of 3rd. Lessons gents, never underestimate them!

http://i401.photobucket.com/albums/pp97/shimmylasco/ShimmyRacing/ad44d644.png

So what next. We have chosen our preferred ride height andspring rates although we have spares and optiosn at hand for certain races. We will be at Rockingham on 18/3 for a Trackday and test of the set p again with both general settings and specifically Rockingham settings in mind as our race season starts Silverstone on 27/3 and then Rockingham in April.

These 3 cars will now be left until the next two are competed. Housey and Seans cars are on the workshop, engines fitted but cage and interior to finish. We will need to run them in at Brunters, take them for Rolling Road tuning and get then ready for Silverstone as well on the 27/3.

Meanwhile Clives MX5 and Seans 968 are due to compete at Snetterton in Race One of the Trackday Trophy on 19th March. For thus we can run R888 and different suspension components and both cars are Potential group B and D winners.

Silverstone will be two mark 2 races and 4 mark 1 races (2 each car). Also by chance a Caterham Roadsport B race or two that my brother happens to be in.

Don't yet know paddock plan BUT we will be in a group of 3 cars somewhere and I'll post here just before.

Absolute blast, so nice to be back out in a car that actually works (my run of owning stupid turbo charged cars is finally over). I was just getting to grips with Silverstone again (drove about 10 laps 3 years ago) and giving the car a bit of a shakedown - leather seats, not good enough. :D

Saw your car was dancing about very nicely through some of the corners too!
