anyone know of any seats you could fit that are really light weight?
sorry one thing, once fitted they must be illegal for the road and this includes weekend trips to the ring where you wont be allowed on ??
I hope Northern Jim browses shortly
nice seats for a non road car mate ;)

I'd quite like to know too as i'm thinking of upgrading mine but don't want to fit the HANS equipped seats as the Ring don't allow them on TF days...
I do hope Jim will pop along soon and help answer this question... :bigcry:

Steve Recaro do a fiberglass PP shell at 7kg and a carbon kevlar at 4.5kg. Sidemounts, baseframes & possibly runners are needed after, so pick carefully if weight is a concern.
Recaro offer an FIA and ABE model. FIA complies to racing standards and road use in UK but ABE is manufactured for regulations for German road use.

errrrhm why is group buy funny, cos they are quite dear? if there are peeps on here that want lightweight seats as the standard csl items are pretty damn heavy, it will be much better on the wallet to get em together me thinks.

i want to start going really lightweight. i haven't yet spoken to any professionals about an exact figure, but i was thinking getting it down to about 1300kg as a first stage.
rear seats arent that important to me, i only use them to put my baby seat in on the rare occasion. im happy making it into a permanent 2 seater. my missus hates being in the car, so i was thinking about a weld in cage so she never has to go in it again. :hahaha:

i got mine down to 1440kg with me in it, which means the car weighed 1380kg
(ok, 1334kg really but totally reversible and car is atm back to OEM atm)
I excluded getting any lighter as it would mean you would need to make serious changes to the base car and spend much more per kg removed.

1334kg, what did u do to get down to that?
i roughly estimated that if i take out the rears (-15kg), replace the two front seats with 4.5kg items(-35kg), put a titanium exhaust (-20kg) i can get it down to around 1315kg. but obviously if i add a cage it will be back up again.
mine is without a/c so i think my weight is 1385kg to begin with.
tbh i dont really care about it being reversible as i dont ever intend to sell it. im all up for making serious changes to the base car, but over time to go easy on the wallet.

my car was originally about 1450kg down to 1334kg (with a/c and xenons and stereo)
approx only as i never weighed each thing
APs -5kg
Intrax - -6kg
Recaro drivers seat and NO passenger seat -25kg
18 inchPVolks rims - 10k
Pollen filter housing - 5kg
Boot lining and tools/pump.triangle, FAkit - 15kg
Rear seats/headrests etc - 20kg
SS Race BBX -15kg
BRaille race Battery - 8kg
Windscreen wash - 5KG
So if you have a non xenon, no a/c car with no stereo i reckon you will get to your 1315kg, just get the car on the scales now with no changes and all the kit in her and 1/4 tank as a base weight

wow thanks very informative. i have xenons and stereo though. how much do you think they weigh?
does each seat weight 20kg?
what are the effects of removing pollen filter housing?
i was thinking of putting lightweight rays on but i like the csl rims so much.
can u have a race battery in there permanently, and is it as reliable?
and how come you decided to return the csl to stock?
cheers

right, i've just been speaking to a recaro retailer, he says if we do a group buy we can get 10% discount on the 4.5kg recaros which retail at £1480 each. is that 1. any good? and 2. of interest to any of you?

traditionally i think GB doint work unless the retailer/supplier offers it or you are always fighting to get a decent amount of sales.
you may get 1-2 guys interested but always hard work

evidently so shimmy, cheers mate.
i wanted to see how many orders we can get and then negotiate a discount with the retailer, obviously the more the cheaper. if anyone is interested pm me please. i wont be getting the seats for a few months so there is still plenty of time.

10%discount for buying how many seats???
1. no
2.maybe
I think you should aim for at least 20% for say 10 seats...
then come back and offer it out to the masses

thankyou for the welcome mr northernjim
i didnt actually specify a quantity with the retailer i just asked what kind of discount he would give with a group buy. i dont think he would expect more than 6 seats to be bought, perhaps if i told him we will buy 10 seats, i can renegotiate the discount.
its not that im giving up, its just that there has been zero interest from the community. i did also add that i wont be buying the seats for a few months so there is plenty of time for anyone potentially interested and if they are then pm me.
im going to do a bit of hunting around and find the best possible discount. will revert if there is interest.
