View Full Version : Wanted CSL <30k miles - WTF?

Just trying to stimulate some conversation but why do most people want a sub 30,000 mile CSL? The car is now between six and seven years old which means it would have to average only 5,000 or so miles a year. I cannot imagine there are that many sub 30s left. I say that even though mine has 28,500 on the clock but still......

Any options to treat it like a lady - as long as she's nicely buffed and all that? Or, needs attention from time to time, but good to have around, etc...

Really dont know but guess it's the old low usage / warranty /re-sale value thing.
My stipulation while looking for mine was that it had to have OVER 50K on it. Having watched the market for about a year prior to purchase i could see a bit of a price drop on ones that were over this mileage and as i had every intention of using the car fairly regular then thought it best to let someone else take the hit.

Bought mine in August with 25k miles on it and have only managed to put on a further 2.5k since then despite overseas work commitments. Guess it falls into the sub 30k "Garage Queen" category then!

Bought mine at 21k miles, but that was 4.5years ago. :bigcry: It's now at 55k miles but I'm conscious that it's creeping up and so i've backed off using it too much for going to work.

I wouldn't worry. You only live once. As long as you look after it, enjoy it.:smokin:

7000 in 18 months. When I'm ashore it gets used most days when I don't use the bike. When away its sits in the garage untouched (Wife and kids scared of it). 7 months off the road last year whilst in Bahrain and just getting ready for another bout of 6 months hibernation when leave for the Med at the end of the month.

Crikey Trawler, you are either single or have a wife that never looks over your shoulder whilst you are on line. Braver man than me to put that on a public forum.

Pip
Ps Or soon to be single!

Mines just done 17k, bought it at 14 but it keeps the miles down as i work offshore si it's tucked up while out here.

Not for sale but there are still some about with low miles, i get the impression they tend to hold there money well.

Totaly standard too thought ive about mods but i spend more money on the mountain bikes !

Ohh and got the plate CL04CSL

Cheers

Had mine a year now, put 5k miles on it, although its been forced to stay in the garage for the last couple of months due to 3 foot of snow most weeks :banghead::banghead::banghead:
Life in the highlands.

Managed to pick up the Reg F9 STM for £650 a while back, opinions please if you think its a little on the "Chav" side, just seemed like a good price at the time.

Obviously I would never have it spaced to read F9ST M on the car

Mine is a garage queen right now. On a SORN and tucked away out of the wind and rain. Last driven by me on 31 October 2010 :bigcry:.

On 31k now. Bought with 3.5k on it in 2004 so have done about 4k a year.....

I have a garage queen with + 40,000 miles on the clock
but outside the garage I treat it like a whore. I've done very few miles in 2010 and looks like the same for 2011, it will be out for the obligortory track days but as I work all over it stays hidden away most of the time. I bought the car for fun (3rd car) and also thought it would hold its value more than other weekend cars out there.

The wife hates it, the kids love it :hahaha:

I'm getting paranoid about my milage now that it's a couple of thou off the big 6-0. However the car still has another 18 months warranty on it and with the exception of a leaky front calliper (yes I've still got the OEM brakes :gayfight:) it drives like a farkin dream.

I don't know whether to just drive it forever, or sell up and get a lower mileage one? I guess it's because I'm one of these twats who normally thinks that low mileage = good car, despite getting raped by a low mileage M5 that subsequently gave Trigger's broom a run for its money.

LeinsCSL
30-03-2011, 12:46 PM
I'm on 49,000 miles, and only really drive it when I want to, not when I need to. Therefore, each extra mile is going to be an enjoyable mile. No interest in using it to just sit in traffic or go to the shops, as I think the car deserves better.

No BMW warranty and no plan to ever sell it, so mileage is just a number. Even if I won the lottery I'd probably still keep it, although it might get joined by a 993RS :smt055

Oh no it would have to be a Kermit Green, Orange or Riviera Blue 997 GT3 RS although I would have to take the 'GT3RS' decal off the wings.

Ah, sure if the numbers came up I'd probably have one of those too. And maybe an F40. And...

Actually, this thread probably isn't big enough for the list :)

still no worries

Mines just about to click onto 39k. Cant see the mileage going up more than 6k a year. So I guess mine is a high mileage one :bigcry: :blalalala:

Couldnt give a stuff though, I v nearly bought one with 28k on but saved myself 3k going for this one. Came with AP's and with the money ive saved its paid for a supersprint and a new set of cups. Happy days.

31-03-2011, 01:52 PM
I bought mine with 16k on the clock and put about 10k on it before selling.

I don't see what is difficult to work out. The reputation has increased over the years, whilst numbers have gone down on what was already a limited edition car. Normally, lower mileage will indicate better condition.

However, i'm looking for a higher miler one so i'm not suckered into being all precious again (for the record, i tracked my previous one regularly!).

Hi, I want a >30k miles car, just joined and can't post in the wanted section. Is there any chance of getting one for around £22k?

Also the one that was advertised by the firm in potters bar is just near me, did anyone with a trained eye look that one over?
