Lowering the CSL

Has anyone lowered their CSL by installing Eibach or Tein springs? Just wondering if the handling was improved by using these lower springs on the standard CSL shocks.

My cars done around 25Kmiles so would hope the shocks are still in good condition to handle the lowering, but concerned about possible adverse handling..

Can I ask you the reason for wanting to lower the car?

Two key reasons:-

The first being Aesthetics, i know the CSL looks better when slightly lowered.

The second being enhanced handling, i know this is achieved with coilovers, however querying any improvements if solely changing springs with stock shocks.

If handling stays the same as stock with no adverse effects, but i can achieve a lower stance then id be happy...

Eibach springs do not lower a csl they actually raise it about 10mm !!!
as they are based on std m3 dimensions and spring rates

Fitted PI springs from bm town they said they gave a 30mm drop all round .
dropped the rear 5mm and the front 15mm .
Ride qualty poor on the road and less feel on track

After a lot of hassle TBH wish I'd left it std or done the proper thing and fitted coilovers

Hi Mick, thanks for the feedback. Your comments mirror the worries i actually had in the back of my mind!

Will leave the springs and keep a look out for a second hand set of KWs.

Spring change on the CSL is probably a waste of time. Leave standard or fit Intrax coilover or similar. There's no half measure really.

Yep leave standard...BMW spent alot of money getting it right and I must say it always looks low enough to me.

I must admit having lowered several cars previously, i wouldn't dream of doing it to the CSL as there are just too much hassles with speed bumps and uneven tyre wear with rather subjective improvement to a car's handling... :smt108

Yeah, i have changed the suspension on every car i've had other than the CSL so far. Wouldn't just change springs anyway. You want the best quality dampers so you can in fact run lower rate springs.

Eibach road springs are progressive, which is good for ride but that means throughout the transition of a corner you are changing spring rates. Not good for the driver.
