This will only apply to real city slickers not the ones who pretend to work in London but actually work in docklands/Canary Wharf :blalalala:.

More specifically does anyone know where one in particular is. I went there years ago and cannot find it now. It was an upstairs venue from memory and had the old style bench seats. Customers were just put together on empty seats rather than getting their own table. The menu was old school dinners type fare. I think it was a pub set up downstairs and I seem to remember that the serving girls used to give you a bollocking if you did not tip properly. A lot of pinstriped broker types in there.

So is it still there, what is its name and where is the entrance exactly?

What you have described sounds exactly like Simpsons, a 2 minute walk from from Leadenhall Market, just off of Cornhill.

Really wish we still had places like this up here in Aberdeen. Everything gone to the large chains and the likes.

Mate of mine works down in London Mon -Fri and is always going on about these little caffe's and restraunts he frequents during his working day. :smokin:

Hmm I was convinced it was a stones throw from Lloyds and Leadenhall Market and not the Lamb Tavern but Simpsons (not to be confused with the superbly traditional Simpson's in the Strand) and The Lamb both seem to fit the bill. So it looks like two spurious lunches in London coming up.

Thank you to all. What a fabulous source of information this site is and not just on CSLs.

I defer to Mole on accuracy....He is:

1. A proper blue blooded city boy and not a pretend E14 industrial estate wannabee like me.

2. A complete pi$$head with intimate knowledge of every EC1 drinking den square footage .

:hahaha:
