hello all, just picked up my first CSL yesterday evening.
Car supplied by Munich Legends, 53 plate and 36k miles. Built Nov 2003.

Aircon, Xenons, PDC and Business CD.

Previous car was '05 M3 Coupe, just had to have the CSL and so far it seems like it's on another planet. Really quite a special piece of machinery. This is also my first taste of SMG, it's pretty intuitive but will need some practice to always get things smooth. So far, being harsher and more positive with the changes seems to do the job.

Obviously you all know more than me about these machines so perhaps you don't mind answering a few dumb questions :

1) Oil level check - long-term reading said 0.4L, so I add 0.45 litres or thereabouts and now instant reading says 1l, but long-term still reads 0.4l. Bit confused by this. My old M3 used no oil - can I expect the same with the CSL assuming always warned up properly etc ?

2) tyre pressures - manual suggests 33-35 front, 35 rear (non-lightweight wheels on mine), I have set to 34/35 but feels a bit too sprightly - what would people recommend ?

3) will it always bleep when started if seatbelt not on ?

4) I'm assuming the odd clonk from the transmission is normal.

5) do you all run yours on Tesco 99 or VPower ? I tend to swear by Shell.

Welcome I am sure you will love the CSL
i am on my 3 CSL now the bug is strong

No ( 1 ) oil level takes a few miles to reset or you have to get the car hot
park on level ground switch the car off but ingnition on then put up oil level on the display then hold in the sport button.

No ( 2 ) I run 32psi cold front and rear on my CSL.

No ( 3 ) Yes it also beeps if you leave the car in nutral when switched off.

No ( 5 ) I run VPower but it can run unleaded also dont wast your money on BP 102 as the car is not set up for it and all you get is a dry wallet :hahaha:

regarding my oil question above - given what I describe could I have overfilled ? The manual says 1.0l is the max that the display will show, so could the original 0.4 reading be inaccurate and I've shoved too much in ?

They show 0.1 min and 1.1max but it could be over and still shows 1.1

0.1 TO 1.1 is 1L of oil

There is a dip stick but you have to remove the front of the airbox

sorry Mark, don't mean to be picky.

If I get a "long term" reading (i.e. the computer reading using the indicator stalk) of 0.4 but an "instant" reading of 1.0 (having topped up and using the Sport button method) then could it be possible that the 0.4 was incorrect and actually it was already at 1.0 ?

the reason I ask is that I was assured all the levels were bang-on upon collection, and am concerned I've overfilled - as I didn't check using the "Sport" method before I topped up ? .... Am aware that overfilling is just as bad as running below min ....

cheers

Are you handy with tools ?
if so i can tell you how to get at the dipstick
or you will have to run the car for about 60 miles and then it will have the right reading on the display

ok, so process of elimination.

I had already run the car for 90+ miles before I checked the levels.

does this mean that the 0.4 reading must have been calculated during that mileage - assuming it takes 60 miles each time ?

cheers.

Welcome RS32...Another lovely SG CSL....When I picked mine up it was showing 1.1 but as I do not do many miles there is no reading showing. This concerned me even thourh I had just had an inspection 2. Spoke to a BMW Master tech yesterday and he said the same as Mark unless you warm the car ir will not show. He said it takes over 20 mins of normal driving so with me only doing 4 miles ish on my trip to work it doesn't show....will just have to go for a long blast every weekend :-D

Hi rs32, lovely looking csl,

40 miles down the road and the long-term oil reading flicked to 1.0. Result.

Then another 80 miles down the road and it changed to 0.9. Assume it can take a while to settle down ?

here's some slightly better pics - am guessing these look familiar to most people on here :hahaha:

Welcome rs32 - awesome choice of car!

I was toying with buying a Porsche before i plumped for the CSL in the end but i am so glad that i did! I just got back from a 10 day trip to Europe and 2 days at the Ring and my car got just as much attention as any Porsche and was a joy to drive on the 'Ring' as well as handling all the other mundane driving that was thrown at it. :-D

Enjoy!
