I'm sure like most of you, I keep my CSL in the garage throughout the year and moreso in the winter. So I NEVER have the problem of frozen windows, frost or snow. However, now I live with her indoors in Northern Ireland, she's up and away to work early in the morning she's having to put up with frost and snow.

Now, as most of you know, I work abroad and therefore out of the country for more than 6 months of the year. While at home, I either A: Put the car in the garage and get it out in the morning for her or B: Scrape the windows for her before she heads off to work in the morning.

However, out of sheer laziness while I'm away she won't put the car in the garage in the evenings and as she's always running late or see previous about laziness, she sprays the windows with De-Icer. I've never used it on any of my cars but I remember my parents using it when I was young.

How safe it is on the paintwork? I know she should be careful and keep it on the glass but when in a hurry, she can be hashy. As we all can.

I've only another 2 weeks and then it'll be going in the garage every night, fcuk getting up at 0730 to defrost the car every morning on my holidays, :birdman:

I've also got a can of defrost and it says - windows only so it might not be paint friendly....

Aye, that'll do. As long as it's 'just' when I'm away. Can't be having you drinking my beer while I'm around. :hahaha:

apparently urine doesn't freeze until minus-fooook-me-its-cold degrees so thats an alternative and an eminently more eco friendly one to the de-icer:hahaha::bigcry:

De-icer is shocking stuff for paint, so yes, try not to use it.

A good coat of rainx and a scraper will have the ice gliding off!

Best

Thanks for the info people, but I can't imagine herself 'peeing' on the window, think the neighbours might have something to say about it, but thanks for the advice.

Jonathon - Will be lathering that stuff on when I get home, was thinking of trying 'Aquapel' too but it seems expensive when Rainx does the same thing.

I too am an environmentally friendly person (apart from the obvious) so just use a scraper, without water and some decent strength windscreen wash in the washer reservoir if need be. Saying that my e39 M5 has a fabulous screen clearer/heater that my wife always used to envy. 400Bhp heating the windscreen works wonders. To be honest with you I garage both cars religiously anyway and she used to have a soft top Saab that sat outside (see rubbish window de-icers inc.)

Now she has the dogs testicles in the 'visability pack' on a Mini Park Lane which means she has xenons and the heating elements in the glass as well as the normal heater.

Sailorbaz,

Yeah Aquapel should be better than RainX as it uses a polymer approach to chemically bond to the glass. RainX contains silicon and thus more of a polish that sits on the surface.

I do have some Aquapel which they've started flogging in Costco. Have not personally tried it yet, as it needs to be applied when the weather isn't brass monkeys but from all the warning signs on the packaging (gloves to be worn etc..) it looks dangerous enough to work. :hahaha:

Just found this test.

Of course in extreme weather, I just send the wife out with the kettle.

Cheers again everyone.

Yeah, defo Mark, cheers. JonnyS was down there at the end of the summer, had a terrible time with a Puncture and of course no spare with the CSL. Apparently that wee can of jizz is pish and when it gets all over the side of the car is a nightmare to get off!!!

he'll clear the Mrs windows

It’s the plumbing I’d be concerned about, takes a lot of upkeep this time of year.
