Many of you will know Andy has been unwell for a while. Here's a link to a thread that was started a few months ago.
http://www.cslregister.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5243&highlight=andy&page=6
With profound regret, I make this update today. Andy has been diagnosed with cancer of the liver & the pelvis.
And the Doctors have given him 3 more months He is not expected to undergo any intense medical therapy during this time.
He is at home still, but is reluctant to accept visitors. He has lost a lot of weight but is presently just about managing for himself. However it is likely he may be moved to a hospice at some stage.
If Andy will accept visitors, Adrian Gibbins, will inform us. Your messages can of course be sent to Adrian (preferably by email or post) and he will relay them to Andy:
adrian.gibbins@murketts.bmw-net.co.uk
I have asked what we can do for Andy, and it seems really not much. Adrian will keep me updated if some of us can go and meet Andy one day
I am really really sad - he is such a nice guy. My thoughts are with him and his family.

That is terrible news, I expected it was bad but not this bad after speaking with Adrian the week before last. I asked him to let us know if there is anything we can do, but as said very little I guess.
Such a nice guy and refreshing to deal with too.
Absolutely gutted :(

Oh shit. That is sad news indeed.
I have yet to meet him but he has always been brilliant on the phone when i've rang. I had been given some indication that things may be looking up when i was at Murketts back in early October but this is obviously not to be the case.
My thoughts are with Andy and his family also.

Why is it that this c*nt of a disease seems attracted to the nice people in life?

Oh God, so sorry to hear this.
I never met Andy, or even had any dealings with him but from feedback received on here, he's been nothing but helpful and very friendly.
My thoughts are with him and his family.
Horrible news. :(

I felt compelled to register and leave my feedback on which is a very sad post indeed.
I think I am correct in saying that SailorBaz is the owner of my old CSL - and whilst that epic car was in my ownership, I had a lot of trouble with it, sadly. Murketts and most importantly Andy, were absolutley first class in trying to sort out the issues with it.
I have nothing but praise for Andy, he was an utter gentlemen when I was venting my spleen with my CSL woes.
My heartfelt sympathies go out to him and his family - I wish him the very best at this terrible time.
Nigel.

Obviously I have never met the guy but have heard nothing but praises about him.
I know what it's like to have someone diagnosed with cancer; my brother was diagnosed with it a couple of years back and very luckily survived the subsequent treatment, only to have a stroke 5 years later after being given the all clear from the doctors - Somebody high above must have been looking after him and he survived that without any subsequent side effects (he's a very lucky soul - if you could call getting cancer and stroke lucky, surviving it definitely is). He is now as healthy as ever - so miracles do happen.
My best wishes go out to Andy and hope a miracle will happen upon him also.

It would be so wonderful if the miracle also happens for Andy.
I have just had a further update. The Docs are going to put him on a bout of steroids/hormones to make it easier for him. Whereas the initial prognosis was the stark reality, the Docs will be doing all they can to make life easier for dear Andy and hopefully he is with us for much longer.
Andy is feeling well today, and I hope that carries on. He is certainly determined to remain positive about everything.

I've been in close contact with Adrian and Co. @ Murketts since Andy went on his sick leave some months ago, constantly hopping & wishing for his return to rude health.
After dropping my CSL off with Murketts earlier on this morning, Adrian sadly informed me of this terrible news which has left a lump in my throat and very few words (apart from what's been kindly said already) to express my deepest sorrow to Andy, his family and to all that know him well.
As Tom has mentioned, miracle can & do happen and we certainly need one right now for Andy P.
We live in hope.

I don't know Andy and have never dealt with Murketts. Most of my friends have and all bar non always spoke very highly of him, his service and his enthusiasm for BMW. I'd like to add my sorrow at hearing this news. There are very few people in the motor industry like him.
On a positive note, as mentioned miracles do happen. I'm sure he'll be in our thought's and those that do, their prayers.

I have sent the Shim on his way full of coffee and chicken sandwich after his trip to Murketts.
I can but echo the thoughts and words of you all ... there are no words really when this scourge on society calls ... by that sadly I mean Cancer ...not Shimmy ! ... ;)
I mean no disrespect to Andy in that fun comment, but I for one am not writing him off , so lets try and keep some humour going amongst the obvious sadness of Andy's current, and hopefully temporary set back !
I could never thank him enough for the service he has extended to myself and the Broom ..so ... you get well soon Andy mate ....cos my gearbox is playing up !

Hi,
I do not know the Guy or have used Murketts, but its
pretty obvious the Guy went the extra yard,
even more at times for the CSL brigade.
So how about the CSL Brigade go that extra
mile in return now ?
Not sure if BMW AG or BMW UK would assist with
something, but genuine appreciation is so
much more than just words, and should always
be made in person, not on a Card.
Some have mentioned Miracles, well you need to
give a person a beleif for that, not just polite words.
Having been to the dark side briefly in 2002, and
as much as luck was involved, you still got have the
burning desire to dispel whatever life may throw your way.
''Andy's CSL Christmas'' at say Murketts, or where ever,
but I am sure there are more than just one or two
current or even ex CSL owners, who would be up for
something like this.
Regards,
The Gorilla.

Horrible illness and im gutted for Andy but lets hope the prognosis improves and Andy is meanwhile in as little pain as possible.
The guys at Murketts said that Andy has not been seeing many visitors but would let us know it it changes, he has been understandably weak.
I wonder if he has the strength for a lap or two of Silverstone or Rocky with Duncan and us. Duncan doesnt go that fast..........
Im up for anything and I will put it in an email for an open invitation if he feels up for it. Lets face it he has earnt a few laps or a small get together of CSLs.
That is terrible news indeed! Absolutely gutted to hear of this news, very sad indeed, Andy has been charming and a lovely guy to deal with in the short space that I've known him, gutted we never actually got to meet! :(
As has already been said my thought's go out to him and his family.

I too am up for anything and I'm happy to go out of my way to get something organised for Andy P
I know Andy wanted to come along to one of our Ring/Spa trips, passenger seat was offered but Andy's luck of days off work followed by the illness flaring up, put a stop to it last time.
Just an idea but... how about an M3 / M3 CSL only, private Track Day on one of the local circuits (Bedford, Snetterton, Silverstone ) organised by us, for Andy.
Maybe get BMW UK / BMW Murketts involved too.

That is very true mate, never the 'bad' ones get it but it wouldn't wish it on anyone! :(
My Mum had it a couple of years ago pulled through fine but now my Grandad has it and I got news last week that it's spreading through his body, not good as he's 80+, makes me sad thinking about it, but lets be positive and I for one will be praying for a miracle for Andy and anyone else! :)

Going through a set back in life myself, positive mental attitude made a massive difference and got me through it.
My thoughts are with Andy, a really nice guy.

Late to this, but as said, terrible news...
No dealing with Andy, but he comes with a mega reputation...
If his attitude rubs off on the other folks I have experienced dealing with at Murketts, then clearly he's a true gent.
I wish him / family all the best.
