Great pics! I loved that era of my youth.
I was an Astra lover. Started off with an Astra SR (I had sonic the hedgehog decal put on the back lol).. Unfortunately, it ended up at the scrap yard due to someone pulling out to do a u-turn in front of us.
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o16/cslgirl/P1010014.jpg
Then had a GTE 16v how I loved that car. My now husband had the cosworth, another 2 friends with renault GT turbos - we used to have a lot of fun. When i put the reg number into that search thing it shows it is no longer on the road :(
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o16/cslgirl/P1010006-2.jpg
Then from about 1997 to 2003 I had a 1985 8v GTE which only had 35k and one previous owner when I bought it. Sadly this too ended up at the scrap yard when I sold it to a friend, who then crashed it. Was most upset.
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o16/cslgirl/P1010008.jpg
Given the chance, I would love to own a Champion Limited Edition GTE.

I so wish I had gone through this phase now too. My first car was a Mk3 Golf GLTDi, and then straight into an E36 M3 Evo and another and now the CSL. Am I boring?
Dad's had a mental amount of motors, being in the trade. Alot of Fords and Vauxhalls. The cream of the crop has the be the RS500 Cosworth but we had a rake of XR4x4's, XR3i, XR2's, RS Turbos, Cavalier GSi's, Astra GTE's. Actually, Dad was one of the 1st around our area to put 1.7D engine into a GTE body. Looked the dogs balls but then it fired up, black smoke everywhere. Was a real head turner at the time. And look now, everyone is doing it. haaahaa
More classic photos please!

Forget the hot hatches - I've had a 1990 E30 325i sport delivered to my workshop today. It's been stored for 3 years and is booked in for recommissioning. Bit of a timewarp car, and a quick run round the block has brought a whole heap of memories flooding back...

My imported 1985 Opel Kadett GSI
Loved that car, my memory of it was a go-kart with a great engine, no power steering, no aircon, no airbags, no ABS, no build quality and no wheel-arch left un-filled, but it was great fun to drive.
Kept getting obscure electrical problems and most of the panels came unglued, as well as the sun-roof seizing up. Eventually it got broken into one time too many and was not worth repairing. A roof tile falling through the windscreen didn't help and meant it took one final trip to the scrapyard and a bus home.
The police then phoned up a week later wanting me for an armed robbery in Lincolnshire. It must have lived on for one more journey

I used to drool over the Integrale EvoII, I always considered the Integrale to be a cross between a Nova with proper attitude and an E30 M3 Evo with that unmistakeable hint of passion that only comes from Italy.
My dad toyed with the idea of having one, but it went the same way as the M3, dismissed because of the increased insurance associated with a LHD, so he bought a Trident instead.:notworthy:

Thanks! That Williams belonged to my brother and was a 3. It was in unbelievably good condition. Over the years he had a 1, 2 and 3.
We are continuously debating whether to get another Integrale again and/or a Williams for a bit of nostalgia. There are Final Edition Integrales coming over from Japan now, perhaps a consideration, but also have a massive soft spot for Giallos. The problem is servicing and parts availability, it's become difficult. With this in mind, just feel prices are a bit toppy now.
The Williams meanwhile is cheap as chips now, such a good car and I'd love one as a runabout.

Have not read the article, but was aware it was covered.
There were always some limited editions (e.g. Club Italia, Hi-Fi, Lagos, Bianco Perlato, Dealers Collection, Giallo etc) but there was always a certain mystique about that car, did it or did it not really exist. The only photos of that car up till recently were lovely looking shots taking near what looked like a coal pit!

I had a 16v Integrale from 1998 to 2004 - bought it from Nick Johnson - it was his very 1st private car deal. When I went to view (& then purchase) my CSL from him last year, he still had pics of said 16v up on his wall.
A friend of mine has a Club Italia & a Club Lancia, both in spectacular condition - a very rare pair of Evo that have increased in value by some margin now.

Evo looks mega in Giallo Fly, White or Red.
Hard to believe they only. C.210 bhp and now usurped by clios these days.
Escort cosworth the same - 20 years ago it looked like a intergalactic UFO. Now (standard) it wouldn't frighten a regular hot hatch.

not that light, because of cage, bbk, wheels, and the original body panels and windows. Altought faster than the CSL in a straight line.

That Evo looks like a beast! The dashboard layout and controls bring back a few memories. Am sure the Clio was a hoot too.
Can't really think of any present day hot hatches which truly appeal. Yanto's comments though are spot on in terms of how today's hot hatches would give an Evo a rather humbling lesson, but I try and ignore that reality!! Since the Evo, the CSL is the first car I've had which has made me feel as good.
