Just bought a set of AP 6 pots and they need new discs. Where is the best place to source them and bolts?

Make sure you get GP5000 disks. The standard AP ones are total shite. May be you can only buy the GP5000 now, as the original kit disks would warp in a morning....

Cheers guys, Questmead seems to be the preferred supplier then. Had a quick look at their website, looks like I'll need to give them a ring.
I've never done this before so are the discs difficult to change? Any special tools required?
The kit comes with some used pads (should be here today or tomorrow) but not sure what they are. Would I be better getting new pads when replacing the discs?
Performance brakes are a bit new to me.
Thanks for all the input so far guys

Personally, I would definitely fit new pads at the same time as the discs.

Did you buy the used AP set off my mate Dave?
I'd put new pads in with your new discs, then as they wear down use up the used ones you have.
RS29's are a really good pad, tho a bit dusty and squealy around town, but their performance makes up for it, I loved them in my old AP's.
You dont need specialist tools per se, when you're taking your old discs off it's very easy to round out the old disc locating screws, they should only be done up pinch tight, make sure the torx drive head is securely in and not at a angle before you undo.

You'll want new bolts too, they have a funky torx head.
As others have said RS29's are best for track work.
Alun at questmead has sorted me out previously, though the last lot of discs I just got from Simpsons.
No real special tools required, but a bench and a vice (clamp the disc in with something soft to not damage it) do come in handy when bolting the disc's to the bells. Torque the bolts in opposites and do not over tighten. IMO is best to be methodical and give yourself plenty of time, plus clean up the surface of the hub so the bells sit as well as they can. oh and get the discs on the right way round :)

depending on how badly abused the old discs are, I'd soak the bolts in penetrating fluid for a couple of days, last time I changed mine, a few of the bolts sheared they were so tight.
new bolts are only tightened up a gnats worth too (14nm IIRC)

I did ;) assuming your mate Dave is the Dave I bought them off! Were they red? What kind of condition were the calipers in when you sold them?
I should hopefully have them tomorrow or Monday. I have limited tools and space (red no garage) available so might be better sending the discs off to get replaced.
Maybe Questmead or Simpsons offer this service?
Anyone painted their red APs black?

Thought you might have, yeah it will be the same Dave, he's a top bloke, are you the fella in Ireland?
Calipers were in good condition, I think you'll be getting 2-3 sets of used Ferodo DS2500 pads with it all.
You got them at a good price, even if you do have to get new discs
Was going to have them myself, but couldn't justify my new car & 100 cell cats in the same month lol

new bolts all round, low Nm torque wrench (14Nm), loads of WD40, a well fitting spanner and some patience,
Fit new pads onto new discs, but keep the old ones for use after the disc is worn (you can even them up with some sand paper later on)
BED THEM IN PROPERLY AS INSTRUCTIONS and dont use them on track or to bed in with DS2500

Yup, I'm in Belfast. David is a top bloke and I did get them at a good price. Would have preferred black as I will have the standard rears with PF pads until I track down a set of AP rears. My car is Silver Grey and I'm not sure red is for me! Can't complain though at the price ;)
I bought a set of K Sports (on an impulse) but never fitted them. Sold them on as I really should have bought APs from the start.

+1 and don't use DS2500 on track, as they leave deposits on your lovely new disc's and fook them :bigcry:

Hi,
Once bedded in properly to get the best from them
take them through a full heat
cycle and get them really, really hot
almost to the point of glowing, and then just
let them sit, and cool down.
They should have a blue 'heat' colouring
at the belles end etc. after this.
This can cause Pad residue to run down
which when cool you need to clean off.
Regards,
The Gorilla.

Got the BBK today. Will post some pics of the discs tomorrow and measure the thickness. I think theres a bit of life left in them yet but would like some second opinions. I only do about 4K miles a year so may not need to shell out another 700 odd notes for discs and pads just yet.

They look awful but looks can be deceiving. I am no expert but I thought wear was measured on disc overall thickness and then you have to take corrosion and disc eveness into consideration.
The lip on the edge looks pretty large so I'd guess they don't have much life left but the grooves look ok.

tbh what i wish id done first time is buy new bells to then you can mount them at your leisure and remove the others some time when you feel like it, no rush
at the end of the day theyd sell so no big waste
loads of wd40, good fitting spanners and allen keys and maybe some heat
Preparation is key:thumbs:

the first set i did i got so frustrated after rounding the third allen key, i remember hitting the disc with my big lump hammer and splitting it in two:whistle:

Not far off shimmy. £150 + VAT. Seriously considering ordering a set of built up discs and bells and selling the old ones. Not sure there's much of a market for used AP bells though?

Spoke to Questmead and they have removed the old discs from the bells. They also took them to AP Racing to get their opinion on the bells before fitting the new discs. AP gave them the thumbs up so the new discs were being bolted up on Thursday. Should have them next week depending on the weather. Also sent the calipers to Ian @ Godspeed to have them refurbed and repainted black (wasn't keen on red). Got a mate who's pretty handy with an airbrush so will get him to do the AP Racing logos.
Will post some pics when I get them back.

I've got a mate who can airbrush the logos yellow but not sure if I should or just leave them as they are. Comments welcome.

he used a 2 pack paint, I had one slight issue after 2 days, i put some acid on to clean the wheels, strong stuff and I noticed it started lifting the yellow on a letter, washed it straight off and touched it up, Ive never used the stuff again and they are still all good, even after numerous track days. No discolouration or lifting :smt001

My mate did them. They were brush painted with Hammerite smooth. He said they were a bit tricky due to the slightly bevelled edge to the letters and the Hammerite was quite hard to work with as it's quite thick. He did 4 thin coats leaving a day between each coat to dry.
