I've done a few thousand miles now in my CSL and love the car to bits. I do wonder though why the SMG is like it is!

When crawling in 1st or 2nd gear going down hill on a trailing throttle (like walking pace into a downhill car park for instance) I tend just to let the car roll against the engine braking. Trouble is that the SMG can't seem to resolve what it wants to do. It will remain engaged, slowing the car down to almost a stop but then disengages as if it is scared the car will stall, only to re-engage gear again when the (freewheel) speed has picked up again. On a long downhill run in a queue of traffic to a junction for instance, this can make the car kangaroo a bit.

I chatted to them at Murketts and they seemed to think that 'they all do that' - Do they? The way around it is to roll along on the brakes, but I wonder if yours do this too?

Why not stay in 2nd gear? No probs with it at all.

Never had a problem in car parks or travelling slowly down hills (1st or 2nd).

You have to stop somewhere - just to draw breath!?
