Chaps,
Could do with some help...
Had my CSL approx a week now, so far its been a pleasure but noticed something a little strange today.
Driving normally around the 3k mark on a very light throttle I can hear a faint ticking noise, almost like a light rattle, I compared this to my friends e46 m3 tonight and his car doesn't do it, I don't remember my old m3 doing this either.
So I popped the bonnet with the car ticking over, the engine almost sounds agricultural, its weird, it sounds a lot rougher so to speak than his m3, its almost like there is a light knock, having said that the car pulls like a train, quicker than his car but i am still worried none the less.
Anyone else had this?
How different should a csl engine sound from a normal m3? Surely they should sound pretty much the same?
Obviously am worried I have bought a shit one now :(

Possible vanos noisy,
Is the noise at the front of the engine, like a rumbling sound.

Might be worth giving it a Vanos filter change and see if that helps.
Cheap and easy to do.

most specialists can listen and tell if it sounds like the vanos (i had no idea) so best get it to Simpsons or the like. Noise comes from the front of the engine/head rather than bottom of engine block which is a whole different issue!!
could be as simple as vanos bolts loose which is quite common:smokin:

Cheers chaps, I think I'll head down to Munich Legends tomorrow, just managed to get a half day sorted from work, so i'll let them have a listen.
Hopefully its something simple and I haven't bought a shed!
It sounds like Tappet's doesn't it? ;)
My mate's M3 does it, my old M3 does it, my mates old M3 Cab does it and my CSL does it! :bigcry: I asked Murkett's about it and they said it was fine, nothing wrong, just a noise they make! :banghead: :hahaha:
EDIT: Is it more noticeable in 1st - 3rd gears and almost non-existent in 4th - 6th?

Update!
Just ran the car over to Munich Legends, they had a good look round the car for a hour or so.
Basically, they said its not knocking, nor tappets, nor vanos, Steve (who used to work on my old M3) took it up the road, said the car pulls really well and is quick, basically they reckon its the cam gears? said its nothing to worry about, some CSL's are noisier than others, unfortunately I have a noisy one...typical lol.
They said it can be fixed, but not to worry, and they can do it if I want to, I'll probably get it all done when it has its Inspection service in 5k or so.

Mine does it too. To the point where people ask what the noise is if I've coming up to a roundabout alongside a crash barrier with the windows down.
I wouldn't worry about it mate.
