Alpina e36 V8 that is news to me. I thought Alpina only tuned up/modified existing factory OEM engines. I did not realise they put V8s into the e36. I think they are fully automatic though so not really my bag. I prefer manual or can live with paddle shift.

Once i picked it up from Alpina in Buchlohe, and brought it to our Department in Munich. It was and still is quick. Just think about the weight of a E36.

Yes it is quick !
Lot's of torque and the engine has aluminium block so it's quite light for a V8.

It says 6 speed manual in the advert and you can see the stick in the interior pics! :hahaha: ;)

I didn't know they did one either!

if i go down this week ill give ylou a ring for some help! ta G

333bhp 1500kg+ loads of torque (handy if youre pulling caravans!)

interior looks in really good nick, leather on seats looks much better than 93000 miles tbh

trouble is i need a day to day drive but 4.6 litres seems a bit excessive:smokin:

and all i can think about is stripping out all that weight, not necessarily the best thing to save value on an Alpina

What BHP could i get out of that 4.6litre lump without much work, its out of the 540 i think:whistle:

Maybe a race car for TDT, just keep the interior safe for resale!

You could buy a Z3 Coupe  which is lightweight.
Mine is around 1300 kilos now...

Cheers for that Dan . That will be me on the numpty 'banned' list shortly then.

Shimmy, as the M5 was a 4.9L V8 I suspect that you will not get much more than the 400bhp out of it that Munich did but then I am no engineer and I am already on the numpty list (see above).

Some of these old Alpinas look great value (not this one particualrly) - more the older 5 & 7 series...

Shimmy....do they do Alpina 5 Tourings ? Benefit of towing your van and get your daagggss in the back ;)

I had a race against one at VMAX when I had my E36 M3. There wasn't much in it, but they pulled away in the end as it's got no limiter. My mate was driving my car and missed a gear which didn't help either :bigcry:

at £5k I'd love that but only for the v8. It wont be as good to drive as an e46 m3 for similar money imho.

day to day im not so sure

e36 has 347 and e46 has 262 torques, makes a big difference on the road:thumbs:

Looks like a decent motor, but for an everyday runner there are better out there.

I dont rate the old alpina's, drove many e46's, e39's and they did not have that one thing I was hoping they may have- character. They just felt like another 3/5 series with a slightly quicker motor.

I agree though the v8 manual would better suit everyday driving than the M3 would.

What about a very decent e39 530d m sport, I love the facelifted e39 M sports. Quite a pokey motor esp with remap, good mpg, torquey and spacious.

Or I'll just shut up and tell you that perhaps the e36 alpina would be a wise buy and hold or even appreciate in value, but if it doesnt 10k+ is a big price to pay for an e36.

Just thinking out loud.

i think id love it for up and down the motorway and a few short trips.

BUT far too much money for the mileage imho and a bit too thirsty perhaps as well.

i am over that way soon and may take a look. :smokin:

That was my thought Shim, good fun but for the mileage I'd say it's at least £4k overpriced. Interesting motor though. For the money I'd sooner go E39 M5 but I think you've beeen there already.

just fancied an e36 m3, but not a screamer (got one of those upstairs:bigcry:) so the V8 seemed to make sense

I dug up the video I had of the M3/B8 challenge. Without my mate's fluffed gearchange, he wouldn't have been that far ahead in the end...

She send me an email with the mods, Baracuda wheels and exhausts (I guess by now the car has neon lights, rear wing etc).
No I am not interested in her or anyone else.
I have my other half and going after other women is not my thing.

So the single ones can pursue these opportunities ;)
