Hi All
Been quoted £1145 for an inspection II (this includes the 10% discount for 4+). Am I having my pants pulled down? :bigcry:
Also, I've only covered around 2000 miles in the last 2 years! :gayfight:
My last BMW service was an oil change, and the one before it was an Inspection I. I am being told the service now due is an Inspection II, even though the car's computer is saying Inspection not due for 10000 miles or something. Is an Inspection II required?
Thanks
Phil

You need to use the car more :-D

Agreed. BMW dealerships add a +25% surcharge onto servicing costs for CSLs that sit idle too much.
Seriously though, it may well be due the Insp II based on calendar months rather than miles (as you patently have done so few!)
Regards cost, that does seem a little steep. Is a London dealership? They always charge more. I would get quotes from a few different dealerships and ask them to price match or you will go somewhere else... Simples. ;)

Do you still have BMW Warranty & Where you located?
The interval will be 2 years or 15k miles Phil which is now due and now why it says Insp 2 is next, I think the best suggestion is Mark's and to just do an oil change.
My recent Insp II was a little over £800 with Murkett's in Cambs, where about's are you based?

Cooper Reading's InspII price is under £800 if you want to use them to knock someone else down... All the other local dealers around here are in the £1050-1150 range.

We are £750 incl VAT. If you need a BMW dealer drop our name and cost and they will drop (its what usually happens so might as well suggest it :))

Cheers for the replies! I agree, I should be using it more - don't want a reputation for being a complete polisher! :hahaha:
I'm based in Surrey. Quote came from Cooper Cobham, who are my nearest dealer. Amazed that Cooper Reading can be so much cheaper than Cooper Cobham; you'd have thought their rates would be pretty similar!
Anyone got any recommendations for other dealers in the Surrey area?
Cooper Cobham seem adamant that you need to follow the standard service pattern. Have dropped a note to BMW UK to ask what their guidance is regarding servicing schedule.
The car is under warranty, so need to keep the servicing in line with BMW requirements.

I use Cooper Cobham and don't have any problems with their service.
I know they won't price match on the InspII though - I paid £1025 but have been a customer for 9yrs! Martin Sherville is the man to speak to....
Good Luck

Thats the problem when having warranty, your limited to where you go and they have by the you know what!! I paid £550 for Inspec II theoretically by a Local BMW Specialist (I have no warranty).

i have a warranty but my inspection 2 is being done Monday for about £200 - but i am a special case Phil!!!!
I believe the service is every 2 years or under so unless you can contact BMWUK and check the actual requirements (whether you can get away with an oil change until insp 2 comes up) then you just need to ring around for best prices - but dont let warranty lapse please as when i buy your car i will give you alot less for it

I'd say ring Reading and get an exact quote for your car, then try that out on Cobham, you might be surprised how far they'll drop. Failing that, Reading isn't that far away from you, even if you don't like to put too many miles on the car !

As said mate,phone around,thats to much really.Some dealers do 4+ and 6+ servicing,£700 to £900 i would look at paying,I always supply my own oil,which makes it a bit cheaper[Castrol Edge 10w/60].;)

Phil, I will be interested to hear what BMW UK say in their reply as I too only manage 2000 miles per year mainly on track and so never really reach the service indicator on mileage.
An oil service I can justify but an inpection II after only 4000 miles is a little over the top.

Will call Reading on Monday and then do some haggling with Cobham! I'll let you know how I get on.
Regarding my low mileage, looks like I need to do a Euro trip somewhere to get some credability back! :hahaha:

You said it! :blalalala: :hahaha:
By the way, are going to Bedford with CD in November?

Cooper Reading quoted around £750 for inspection 2. Phoned Cooper Cobham back to see if they would match, and they refused to budge from their original quote of £1145. Amazed that the same company has such different rates.
Had an email back from BMW UK regarding service frequency. They said you go by the car's service computer, so even if more than 2 years between service, you wouldn't need a service (oil, insp1 or insp2) until the computer advises. However, brake fluid was time dependent and must be done every 2 years. I asked if this was fine for the BMW Mondial warranty, and they said I would have to speak to the warranty company direct!
Spoke to BMW warranty, and they said servicing had to be in accordance with the dealer recommendations... the dealers I've spoken to are advising every 2 years regardless of mileage, and that service pattern must follow normal pattern (ie insp1, oil, insp2, oil etc). :banghead:
So booked in with Cooper Reading for insp 2.

Fair enough Phil, at least some sort of saving is better than none at all! ;)
My local dealer wanted to charge £1400 for an Insp 2!! Thieving cnuts! :banghead: :bigcry: Hence me travelling from Dorset to Cambs for it!
