View Full Version : Warning: Mileage on service records
outnumbered
13-10-2010, 11:36 AM
I try to keep all the documents on my car in good order in order to help with selling, when the time comes.
I recently had some repair work done at a main dealer, and yesterday noticed that the recorded mileage on the invoice was completely wrong - about 2000 less than it should have been.
Turns out that I'd given them the spare key, which hadn't been used in the car for months, and they read the key electronically to give them the current mileage. So it was showing well below the actual mileage of the car on the day.
I'm trying to get this sorted out, as I don't want an anomaly showing up on the car's service record back at BMW UK... so watch out for this, as it could be a common problem.

Seriously I dunno, not ever ordered a key for the CSL, did a new one for the M3 and that was just a standard replacement around 60 squid I think

I was told by BMW that the car did not come with a plastic key. I think my brother in law who works for them said the same thing. Do I take it you guys have the plastic key? It never worked on my old car anyway.

I've got a plastic key, not that ive ever tried to use it!
What worries me is that the car came with 4 keys and I only have two!

he lied........................
i think you should get two original keys and a wallet plastic one. I certainly have one key and a plastic one.
trouble with the plastic one is that unless you know how to use it, you do have to drive around with the alarm going (i found out to my displeasure)

I only have 2 & was told that was the correct number. Will have to check this out & if there should be more I will have the car programmed to reject the missing keys.

All CSLs came with only 3 keys... 2 master, remote keys + 1 thin, plastic valet key. The usual BMW 4th key, a more substantial laser cut, metal with plastic head, non remote key is absent.

Thanks. I will check if the plastic key has ever been used & get that key disabled.

I thought the plastic key was just for locking the glove box iirc (last did this in an M3 Evo Conertible though) Can't remeber if the CSL one is lockable

I thought the plastic one was a template to enable a new (main) key to be made? :smt102

the plastic key opens the doors and starts the car you wallys:hahaha:
BUT like i said follow th ebooklet instructions otherwise you have to ride around with the alarm going blaa, blaa, blaa, blaa
AND EVERYBODY knows you should never lock your glove box. I did this in my Passat years ago and when a wanker broke in they just forced it open, and the whole dash had to be replaced:banghead:
if they are gonna break into the car, the glove box aint gonna be any big challenge (especially if they have one of your secret plastic keys:hahaha::hahaha::hahaha:)

Well with the hairdressers car you could leave the ruf down and lock the glove box so there :)

That's ok then, perhaps I'm thinking about my old M3 which I'm sure was meant to have had 4 keys!? Something did! :hahaha:

That's exactly what I have.

I always thought that the grey plastic one was for valet parking and didn't work the glovebox :bigcry: then if someone is valet parking your car they can only steal the car and not whats in the glovebox! :bigcry: :bigcry: Unless it's the thieves who did Shim over who appear to be glovebox experts! :hahaha:
