Hi Guys I am new to the CSL forum and take delivery of my CSL on Wednesday.. very excited! I am considering an exhaust system and wanted advice on which is best.... I have looked at a Milltek system with fast CATS but wondered if this is a good system and if there are any better systems out there. I am looking to improve all round breathability and enhance the noise BUT without making it too loud and boomy. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. ;)

I used to have a full Milltek with race cats - very boomy! :bigcry:

I now have Supersprint but with OEM cats - much nicer! :smt055

Hello and welcome mate

I use a full milltek with race cats and find it ok, sure there is a bit of a drone under 3000rpm but it makes a night sound on full chat.

Full SS system for me stepped headers all the way back with resonated centre section and decat for track of course. SS Racing back box(not lightweight one)

Sounds amazing!! no drone.

Does the changing of the cats to fast cats make any tangible difference to the performance? Just don't want to spank cash unnecessarily! If not I might just leave it stock...... appreciate the help and sorry if these are stupid questions... I am a bit new to all this!!!!!

It makes the mid-range slightly stronger but overall its a negligble difference imho.

I would save your cash and keep OEM cat.

+1. Keep OEM cats (they should be 200 cell anyway) and go for SS race back box. That saves 15kg's+ which is more useful than any phantom BHP :whistle:increase you may get which won't be noticable.
Maybe run SS centre section as well. Sounds lovely and saves another few KG's.

Best exhaust noise I have heard on a CSL was one I done recently for a track customer.
It was standard back box and middle section with 100 cell race cats.
It sounded superb.

From the performance site the lightweight-Titanauspuffanlagen are the best, you can see mine at the weekend on the ring!
And you save 23 kg!!!!!!!

Very much looking forward to seeing and hearing that mate.

SS system isn't too bad for weight saving and does represent reasonable value for money. Just my backbox (-15kg) and centre section (-4kgs) saved close to 20kg's.

I'm on full SS on my Csl, Headers, 100cc cat, center pipe and SS sport rearbox

the headers are heavier that the OEM Csl one's as the 100cc race cats, the center piper in lighter and the rear box in much lighter

the noise is really correct even in the car it's still acceptable on long trips

Full SS exhaust with SS headers + SS 100cell cats + centerpipe with resonator + SS Sport back box = 95.8db mesured few weeks ago

hope that helps ;)

You generally lose the 'rasp' when you fit an aftermarket centre pipe with resonator fitted.

I also love the 'rasp' so an unresonated SS centre pipe makes sense :smt055

If/when I get a csl, then I would seriously consider getting an exhaust off these guys

it may well be ready to sell to market by the time I eventually buy a csl too:bigcry::clown:

I would like it, but 95db is more or less the Max noise limit on 90% of the EU track. Soo.... no SS race or Lightweight....:bigcry:

That was my main issue as well since i tend to do Croft quite a bit.

Fitted a Scorpion rear box (as its a full size silencer) and left the rest standard and mine came in @ 94.7db on the static.

2 black flags later for pinging the drive by meters and i fitted some tailpipe silencers I had made up and that brought it down to 92db static. They even put out some cones to highlight the area's i had to stay off the throttle in :bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry: :hahaha:

It has been known for the airbox to set off the drive by meters. I had that at Bedford 3 years ago. Standard exhaust, standard car and the drive by went off twice. They were real knobbers about it. http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_2_211.gif (http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb001_ZSYYYYYYYYGB)

Bedford are, they are strict as fook! :banghead: We were at a trackday there one February, my mate had a 350ish bhp Evo 8, went around fine all morning, stopped for lunch, nothing changed on the car, did half the afternoon session then all of a sudden it tripped a noise meter and that was it, black flag, no questions asked!

from my experience with this car

best results honestly came from just changing the cats (100 ccpi HJS one's)
with the Xpipe from ss ( resonated or not depends on your prefer to noise..)

my set up

Stepped headers 63mm
Custom 63mm section 1 with magnaflow rasp terminator
ss Xpipe resonated
ss race Lightweight muffler
No drone no rasp and the oversize helped a lot for my engine's needs...

I had a cat back Miltek on mine when I got it, made a great noise when you are on one and great down change blip, but the drone was... :moan:

I removed the backbox and put a standard one on, much easier to live with and the downchange blip still sounded good.

I then changed the Miltek centre section for a SS unsilenced. Sound a bit noisier but the downchange blip now has lost some of it's agression and is almost delayed in sound - I don't really like it.

Still thinking of my next move, SS centre / race cats / std back box. SS centre / SS (or similar) race back box / std cats. Or, completely standard.

Hmmm, not sure what to do for the best noise on full chat, fruity downchanges but also reasonably low interior noise (I do a lot of miles including a motorway commute).

I have the new "no drone" full Milltek system, inc cats on my M3 Cab, & i'm wondering wether to put the Milltek cats on the CSL.

Its a ballache to swap them over on both cars & i want to be sure it sounds better, anyone got a vid or sound clip of a CSl with just milltek cats fitted & rest of system std?
