Hi mate, welcome to the forum, your making the right choice! ;)

Mine has become a bit of an all rounder now, sometimes gets used for work but still does trackdays and fast road use, you can't use it on very short trips though, I was only doing 2 miles to work and 2 miles back everyday and the car hated it, it was killing it so it needs a good run and to stretch its legs!

They will take pretty much anything you throw at them though! :smokin: :supz:

Welcome

Mine is solely a weekend/Ring/track toy but i still manage to cover 10k miles per year.

I used it as an everyday car for the first year that i had it and i must say the CSL copes admirably in such a role

Cheers guys for the welcome & the replies

I have a e46 m3 so im not that far behind..lol

Love it everytime i get into it and go for a blast

The only thing thats putting me off the csl is the SMG gearbox, :banghead: my m3 is a manual and have always had manual cars.

When i was looking at M3s i did have a playabout with the SMG box but wasnt too keen on it., but in the CSL i assume it must be a beast

We shall see is all i can say for now

Cheers

I was the same as you when looking with reference to the SMG box - i hated it!

But when you test drive a CSL you NEED to have it so the SMG has to be accepted! It took me all of a week or so to get used to it though and love it now - especially on track :smt055

I was in the EXACT same position as you last December mate, had a Steel Grey Manual E46 M3, loved it but wanted something a little more special, I looked at Noble's, top end Evo's, top spec Subaru's but kept getting drawn back to a CSL ;)

I bought mine blind from a high spec car dealer, it was delivered about 2 weeks before xmas and I'd only ever seen it online, the first time I drove it I loved it and the SMG has been perfect! :smokin: Don't worry about it, do it and you won't look back, trust me

Mine is weekend and track toy.

I also came from M3 to the CSL. I didn't think there would be much between them but how wrong I was. It's not the straight line speed, that's much the same but the general feel and specialness of the car is a on a completely different level. Over three years later and I still love it. Find a good one and do it. You won't look back.:smokin:

Welcome

Mines used to be used more regularly than it is used now. Going to SORN it end of Oct and it will be a garage queen until next year. It took me a while to get used to the SMG but now I wouldn't change it. An excellent all round car, I am sure you will enjoy immensely:supz:.

Used whenever, other than really stupidly short trips ... used as a van, taxi, track and week-ends, great to have for fun as my daily is a Disco 3 ! ... but a special one !

I never use mine anymore. Went to go out in it yesterday after not driving it for over a month, it was dead! Wouldn't even let me in! Jump started it in the end, took it out for a wee spin and BOY... have I been missing out! :banghead:

mine is my only car so gets used everyday (i'm home anyway) for everything you can think of and does everything brilliantly as you know driving a M3

I was looking to get a GT2 but TBH after test driving one and then getting back into the CSL i have put that on hold for a bit.... The CSL is that good

Welcome to the site, no reason IMHO why couldn't be used everyday but I have other cars to put mundane/mucky miles on and like the fact it's used for fun... feels soooooo fast after a mk2 Golf or A2 TDI!

What makes the CSL different to an M3 for short trips mate? i drive my M3 at most 1 mile to work and back:bigcry: and never had any problems.

Firstly welcome to the forum, I'm new as well ;)

Mine is a weekend / Ring / holiday car, as I have other mobiles for sh*t trips and keeps the CSL ready for blasts etc.

All these short trips being mentioned, don't you guys warm the cars up a bit, say 4/5 miles?

While we're at it............. I was asked if a babyseat would fit in the CSL front seats, anybody know? :bigcry:

Normal child seats don't fit as the seat bolsters are quite narrow.

I think that you have missed the point. The CSL much like any other car should be warmed up properly before giving it a blast and it therefore performing to its optimum without unneccessary damage or wear. Driving any car for only a mile does it no favours esp. when it is a CSL. Each to their own.

I have owned my car for three years and only covered 4-5,000 miles so mine is definately a bit of a garage queen. Although it is used for shopping trips et cetera (no short journies) and of course track days but again only the Neurburgring so far (and next weekend!).

Lastly AlexGTT what is "Bird's knickors"? I know what the colloquialism is but surely you mean 'knickers' or am I missing something?

I dont think that is what Dan was getting at Pip, i remmember it being something to do with bore wash/ cross contamination of fuel and oil.
