Thinking of storing car for winter in faciltiy without electricity. If the battery goes flat what is the worst that i will encounter on restart?

Hi PP,

Don't let the battery die.
It's better if you unplug it.

I am not sure what is the difference if the battery drains out in 3 weeks.
You won't have alarm...

but you will have not willfully not alarmed the car, just battery drained down!

either way i wouldnt risk £30k (or £20k in my case) by storing it uninsured ;), you might as well cancel the insurance if you do that and save yourself £350.

How would the insurers ascertain that it had a flat battery?

Could get something like this and hook it up every few weeks to keep the battery in the car topped up? (connect it to one in car and it'll transfer over it's juice)

well when the car goes missing and the immobiliser didnt work and the alarm didnt go off and the insurance probably says to be kept at home of insurer and garaged after 10pm you may have some explaining to do!

dont under estimate how difficult insurers can make it to claim!

Or just how much lie detection they do when necessary! ;)

The immobilizer doesn't need a battery to work.
The alarm just makes some sound if you move the car etc.
Anyhow, not having the battery connected would definitely confuse the thief.

I don't know what are the regulations in UK, but from the countries that I know (CH, GR, UAE) there is no such thing like 'the alarm didn't sound, we are not paying for the car'. My car doesn't have an alarm and no insurance in CH is asking to HAVE an alarm to pay you in case it gets stolen in CH or out of CH.

Surely you could set the alarm and then disconnect the battery which I am sure could be done with the aid of some wires into the boot then you would be covered. It is unlikely the thieves will not reconnect a battery to get her started (ie. flat load her) at which point the alarm will go off.

Either way I am sure you would be covered.
