I refrained from posting 'Ring Cherry Popped' as i didn't want some of you getting over excited...

But, after way too long i have now completed my first laps of the Ring and absolutely loved it. Four tourist laps on Sunday followed by about 17 further (wet) laps on Monday.

Amazing fun, fantastic car. Got passed by a good number of other CSL's showing what the car is capable of, i can't wait until i can keep up with them!

Met MarkS and a couple of other guys so :smt039 to you all. Mark hope you managed to negotiate those late wet laps successfully on the slicks.

Got loads of photos and videos, just sorting out hosting and will then post a link.

Tell me about it. Especially seeing as i have a ringcard with 4 unused tourist laps after they closed the track just as i bought them on Sunday!

Need to get back before the end of the year apparently...

Saw some CSL cup cars there as well on monday, two Team Schirmer cars and some others, not sure if it was anyone from here?

Also for those who haven't done it, highly recommend a lunch stop in Leuven on the way down.

Stunning and i'm not talking about the buildings...

Steve Gill's car possibly, not sure if he'd of been there though, check the latest CSL Cup thread from Brands Hatch on here and you'll see a fair few pics of them

Just off the E40, east of Bruxelles. Not sure that's the quickest way, but there were some great views.

Leuven's also the home of Stella, which is obviously why we went!

There are some plans afoot, but will let you know if they fall through and will get the card to you!

Did some tourist laps on the Sunday afternoon. Fooking scary. Spent more time looking in my mirrors than looking where i was going. Got to the end of the first lap and thought, hmm, don't remember much of that!

Monday was a Destination Nurburgring Trackday and was a lot better, fewer cars, no bikes, no pickups, or buses. There was a London Taxi though who spun on the sighting lap and wasn't seen on track again! The only disconcerting bit was some of the race cars (Cup CSLs, Aston N24, Porsche 908, Corvette) who were flying but generally pretty good.

Would certainly go on more trackdays there, not sure whether i would do more TF laps (but clearly i will!)

You could always join us on Oct 1st, few of us going

Rather be out with Race cars who know what there doing than the great unwashed, that's what has spoilt it certainly have noticed it more in the last two years as it's got more of a destination for the 'Maccy D crew' http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-transport010.gif (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php)

Must of been Stevie out there in one of those, awesome car that, made my cup car last year look pretty basic by comparison :smokin:

Going to sort the dates for the private track days for 2011 over the coming months so once I know the options will post up to see who is interested ;)

Actually they are good value, when you think about it, 25 Lap pass is now more or less €400 , for that you are at the mercy of all, and if some numpty has a moment it closes , for min 15 mins or at worse (like it did when we were out in May) the rest of the day depending on severity of the accident.

Have done 25 (well 35) in day, but we were lucky and pretty much on it back to back, with Rob / Ade / Alex etc was a rare but very good day.

Private Days are yes a little more, say €100 ish, but for that, you have no bikes, vans , buses etc, unlimited lapping, with no need to pull off unless you need fuel or a break, so quite easily put in 40+ laps , giving some time for breaks to let the car cool down, so your actually quids in, add to that the fact you can insure your car ' as it is a track day ' and you also avoid that element of risk and big expense should something happen.

Makes far more sense if you intend to put in many laps :smokin:

As Daz said, it actually worked out pretty good value.

The weather was pretty rubbish, rain in the morning, period of dry weather from mid morning to mid afternoon and then the heavens opened about half an hour before the track closed.

Sighting laps for 1 hour from 0830 (no overtaking) then the track was open until 1700. (last laps leaving at 1640). No lunch break.

I managed 17 laps (i think going on fuel) which breaks back to £29 a lap. I wasn't really going for it what with it being my first time. Generally i was doing two laps and then coming in. We had three cars and were doing a lot of filming and swapping around which nesseciated coming in.

If it had been dry i would have likely done more laps. The track was only closed twice, once whilst a car was on fire and another time after an Evo had a big shunt and was sitting in the middle of the track. Apparently some cars weren't slowing properly, so they decided to close the track but are already saying this will be looked at more closely next time.

The Monday was by far the more enjoyable day other than the rain.

Having done the one in April, after three days of the regular Ring Tourist weekend I have to agree that this is the way to enjoy the Ring  if you're only planning to do one or two Ring trips a year.
It's also a very good & safe way of introducing yourself to the Ring for the first time.

Yep I was out there on Monday in my e46 Team Schirmer car; did some laps on wets in the morning, then shredded them by going out for one more lap after it had dried up. The afternoon was spent on slicks, but the it decided to rain after 4 and did 2 laps with slicks in the wet which was interesting - teaches you fast to be very gentle with both the throttle and steering wheel!

Russ was also there in his CSL Cup car, we did a couple of laps together but felt it wasn't the cleverest thing in the world 2 racecars chasing each other round so we gave up and did laps on our own instead.

Agree 100% - it's how i'll be doing the Ring from now on as the TF is getting rather silly these days full of numpties and is closed more often than open at times...

Being able to drive the full Ring lap with other drivers who have Ring experience is a real boon - as is being able to insure the car easier than it is for a TF day. It would also make coordinating CSL Register Ring trips easier too! Gets my vote!

Ah good craic, i would have come over and said hello if i'd known. You probably came past me a good few times, think i was the slowest CSL there other than Mark when he went out on slicks in the wet!

There was a CSL there with Luxembourg plates who was seriously fast, but Jochen from Frozenspeed said it was 'a long way from standard', anyone know it?

There was also a black british CSL (AU 04 maybe?) which was stripped out with harnesses, but didn't manage to chat to the driver.

The evo was me. Coming through wipperman an Italian white E92 M3 lost it and clouted my rear quarter sending me into a spin. Dragged the car along the armco for a bit before coming to a stop. The driver of the M3 didn't stop at the scene, didn't stop anywhere including the car park - he literally just fled the scene and the entire day. Marvellous eh.

The track was closed due to the fcukwit in the Caparo constantly ignoring flags and coming past my wreck at warp speed. My brother went over and laid into them something rotten by all accounts in the carpark. Teffers kicked them off the trackday shortly after for continuing to be nobheads. Great advert for the Brits, cheers lads.

Shame about the weather on Monday, we were there from Friday lunchtime onwards, was sunny all weekend.

However a yellow flag doesn't stop someone coming past, damaged car or no damaged car. And if you are standing still a car doing 100 instead of 120 is still gonna seem bloody fast.

Assuming it was Bennett driving he ain't gonna slow down to 30mph for a yellow :(

I would humbly suggest not getting involved in a discussion without being there or having the facts.

Overtaking on yellows and reds - not allowed, no matter who you are or what you are driving. Everyone else obeyed this. The fact they were asked to leave the trackday by the organisers speaks for itself.

I am afraid that I allow myself to get involved in any discussion I want, but thanks for the advice.

I see you blame the Caparo for closing the track and not the fact that there was a pile up which is interesting and suffice to say I don't think the Caparo either caused or was involved in a crash so maybe your anger needs to be channelled elsewhere.

The organisers have said openly that the reason they closed the track was because some cars (the Caparo being one) weren't slowing for the flags, despite the car being across half the track for at least two of my (slow) laps.

There wasn't any need to shut the track, as there was still space to pass slowly, but some cars were apparently still overtaking under flags despite it being made very clear at the drivers briefing that there was to be no overtaking at all under flags.

Here's some nice pictures to look at of me being probably rather offline. All credited to Jochim.

I was there - there was no need for the track to be closed. It was being flagged well in advance, so as long as people respected that, no problem - slow down for the accident, and then carry on your lap after the accident - happy days.

I agree with the organisers, titan and jonnyb - there was no excuse for the caparo driver driving like that. He came past me under red flags at T13, and proceeded to drive past the rest of the pack that I tagged onto the end of.

Hi Guys, sorry to be negative on my first post but when I booked it stated that there would be only 150 cars at the day. Other people told me that their TDO told them there would only be 50 cars on the day.

Having done a TF day I booked this one for the simple reason there would be 150 cars. I only did 2 laps but luckily for me I had Colin Hoad (CAT Driver Training) with me who is an industry trained 'Ringmeister.

The rules went out of the window within 10 minutes of open lapping ie overtaking without consent, in corners, using slicks, over taking on the right.

The Italians were very badly behaved.

I went out on Tuesday evening on the TF session and had a fab time except for the 2 white Clio Cup cars who were driving close together and overtook on the right, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Welcome to the register MMS, so what car were you driving ?

Seems to be a mixed bag of blatant rule abusing as after all it was a marshalled track day, and flags are there for a reason  and a load of ego's going wild which is a shame, bad organisation ultimately, this should have been sorted on the day, and the culprits dealt with accordingly http://www.easyfreesmileys.com/smileys/free-fighting-smileys-424.gif (http://www.easyfreesmileys.com/Free-Sad-Smileys/)http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m252/RiverIsMyGoddess/icons/smiley_baseballbat.gif

RMA days are good if not a little expensive and RSR do run some additionally so im going to be looking into all options for mine next year.

As the others below your post have said - the track was not closed due to my one car being at the side of the track ("pile up" ?) and in fact due to the poor driving under flags. These are the facts of the matter.

I had a good chat with Teffers and his brother in the PK that night about some of the issues of the day; expect to see future days aimed at different target audiences eg one day for beginners, or road legal cars, no race cars, no slicks. Another day for "industry testing" and the keener drivers etc.

My brother went out in the bilstein porsche VLN car and the driver of that car said "What type of day is this????" - he couldn't work out whether this was a VLN practice session as trackday rules were going out of the window.

Ah the Nurburgring. For many reasons, its Like.No.Other.

If that's correct then IMO for that reason alone the TDO needs to sort themselves out and show some organisation skills here! Seems like a total 'free for all' day rather than registered trackday

Thank you for the welcome, I was trying to drive the red and white Lotus Elise Sportsracer. I have done training at Lotus and Performance training and drift and overgrip limit training with CAT Driver Training at Millbrook. I do MSV and Lotus on Track, track days. My husband was also driving it.

I just found the speed of the experienced ringers coming up behind me overwhelming as I hate holding anyone up, so I spent more time looking in my rear view mirrors.

In our group were 3 Nissan GTRs who had Dirk Schoysman helping them and they said it was nothing like an English track day.

Your welcome ;) Sounds like you just had some bad luck with the day, true to say that if your a relative newbie on there private or TF you will spend most of your time looking in your mirrors, it takes time to build knowledge and speed.

Although im not going to do any more (the odd one if rob twists my arm ) TF days, the last one I did was completely the opposite, pretty empty due to the DTM being on the GP so I guess most were watching that who had booked up hotels and B&B's, to the last 7 or 8 which were a nightmare due to the amount of idiots.

Think you have to pick your days / weekends wisely... a few of us are back out on Oct 1  if you fancy a TF weekend, no race cars or ring records to be had ... love to see some pics (off the car that is) !

Yep. The 'ring is a crazy place because there is so little run-off, most corners/declines are blind and it takes a reasonable amount of laps to learn the lefts and the rights.

I've only done around 60-70 laps. I say "only" because most experienced people regard < 100 laps as newbie territory. Our friends who live out there do around 1200 laps a year.

As a beginner, most people would do around 10-11 minutes for a BTG lap. For your first trip you may as well take a nissan micra for all the good a fast car would do.

I can turn in a 7:45 BTG time on a clear lap. Russ in his CSL Cup Race Car did sub 8mins for a full lap, which equates to 7:20 to 7:30 for a BTG.

So its no wonder the differential is huge.

(btw BTG is "Bridge to Gantry" time, which most TF people quote)

I think one of the problems with the 'ring, and I guess I'm as guilty as the next man given my post above, is that people really do time and compare times at the 'ring. I couldn't tell you what I do around Snetterton, Rockingham, Cadwell etc. But I can tell you what speeds I do at certain points on the 'ring, what times etc. Rightly or wrongly I think you get dragged into the 'Ring Experience'.

I would agree its not like a UK trackday. And thats nothing to do with the TDO, I've done a number of trackdays at the 'ring through various TDO, its always the same, it goes with the territory. I think another problem is that people do a few TF sessions before the trackday and I regard TF as "public racing" the amount of eye-openers you see there....

I ended up on the trip due to a mate having an unfortunate incident with his M3 and offering me his place, so i never looked into the numbers etc. However i did hear complaints from some other people that the day was mis-sold in terms of numbers. We registered on the morning, before 7am and got 196 through 198 for our cars, so i would suggest that there were 250ish cars there.

Personally i didn't find it an issue, and it was a lot better than the TF on the SUnday, but there were people overtaking without consent and being generally knobbish, but there were also a lot of people not giving consent for overtakes which became a little annoying. 6 of 1 and half a dozen of the other in my book really and both were in the wrong. Any passing in the bends was out of order unless consent was given.

There were lots of different cars there, but that was part of the fun in my view. Being my first time, i would have rathered not have the race cars, but frankly they know how to pass people.

As i've said, overall it was a very positive experience. Titan, shame i didn't know who you were, we were the rather noisy rabble sat at the bar table in the PK on the Monday night trying to persuade one of our gang to chat up the Albanian bar maid!

Problem is that UK trackday rules have made people think that overtaking in a corner is somehow dangerous.

Euro trackdays with no overtaking rules are miles better than UK ones and the quick cars don't get held up behind someone in a shit hatchback who thinks that no one could possibly be faster than them because the know the names of the corners in reverse order. Less frustration = less lunges where is isn't appropriate = more relaxing day for everyone, slower and faster cars.

RMA days at the 'ring are the same deal, just be grown up and it is the overtaking cars responsibility to ensure they make it past safely. Miles better.

Because she didn't speak any english and he was so drunk he was falling off his seat pretty much. We were in hysterics watching it unfold.

Funniest bit is that he was searching for her on Facebook but instead of searching, put her name on his wall. Cue awkward phonecalls from his girlfriend and more hysterics.

On of the other barmaids translated that she wouldn't give him a kiss because he was too drunk. :hahaha::hahaha:
