Hi all Jim here, had my CSL for a little while now and it needs some good brakes on it as i had it smoking round silverstone last week. Any one have an opinion on who is a good replacment for the OE stuff?
Thanks
Jim

Thanks for the reply. Looking for the lot really, the fluid will need changing but im thinking about going for an upgrade kit.

Take a look on http://www.simpsonmotorsport.com/ for their AP kit mate
Other options are Brembo and Alcon IIRC :)

Hi Jim and welcome  Most peeps on here who track their cars have AP Racing anchors. I however "daring to be different" and saving a small fortune in the process  went for this option on my SG CSL (pix below) It works an absolute treat

Most have AP which is the usual suspect Big Break Kit for the E46.
Other options also include Stop-Tech. Main difference for jump in price is whether the caliper is a one-piece mono-block design. Also the AP kit you can retain the rear caliper disc.

You wont fault the k sport, just spec a better pad as the k sport pad is shit, pm me I csn get good discount on the k sport kit.
I have tried all manner of brakes over the years and the k sport should not be overlooked

Shane what's your opinion of the K-Sport kit when directly compared with the same size AP kit?

Will we notice the difference performance wise.... NO.
My business partner runs a full kit on his 520bhp evo, stands on its nose. No reliability issues either. And he is fast in that thing.
At £1100 for a brand new kit they are an awesome set-up. Ditch the standard K sport pads as they are like chocolate and run either Pagid or carbotech xp8- xp 10's. They are hard to beat and they look/feel like good quality.
The only thing may be longevity, but the people I know who run them, give excellent feedback
Thorney reports that the AP kit's are no good for the race series and thats why they run the Alcons, so on that basis the AP have weakness to.
If you were racing I would say run AP/alcons etc, but for road and track use the K Sport are a cracking alternative.

Hi CSL Jim,
I opted for the Simpsons Hybrid AP setup ( retains CSL disks but with 6 piston APs for the fronts) at a much lower price. So far the car stops great on the track

I also ran the K-Sport 8 pots on my Evo and did a back to back test with my mates Evo running AP's round Croft.
Difference was.......well nothing.
I was running Ferodo DS3000's.
Had my CSL not had AP's fitted upon purchase then there would most likely be K-Sports under the rims by now.

the APs on my car have done 50k miles and under very heavy load and high heat
i have had the piston seals replaced once as preventative maintenance otherwise they havent been touched and have been faultless

I run Alcons. They look the dog's danglies and can detach your retinas even with lightish pedal pressure, but at 4K for a front and back kit (excluding the RS29 pads you should run) they took an awful LOT of explaining to the Mrs.

I run 6 pot AP's up front with AP discs and the 4 pots on original bmw discs at the rear. I :smt055 them

Hi all after much research and trawling through forums and website:banghead: i have decided to splask out and go for a performance friction big brake kit:thumbs:
It has arived this morning and it looks the dogs dangly's! I cant wait to get them fitted and get out on the track. They were so helpful too, advising me of bedding in procedure and going through all the different options with me. Not too pushy to get my money, if you know what i mean.
So i will let you all know how i get on next week after i have been on the track with them
Thanks for all the advice
