Put the CSL in for it's Insp II and it turned 60,000 on the way to the garage.

Now they plugged the key into the machine and yep you guessed it the mileage came back different to what the dash says.

310,000 miles, is this correct sir :bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry: :hahaha:

At that miles i should be getting the service FOC.

It can do that if it has been clocked and the LMC was not flashed properly
then the units dont match up and add the 3 items that read miles together.

Whats the LMC Mark?

Got me concerned now that it has been tampered with :smt100

worryingly this could be true, it happened to me with my 1st M3, it turned out that the previous owner had clocked it very badly, not buy many miles but it was blatantly obvious that it had been done. The key reader was saying something like 600k miles and BMW GB cancelled the warranty immediately (which was handy as it was due to have the bottom end re-call done). Luckily the dealer who had carried out all the checks on the car for me before i bought it, stood by their mistake and took the car off my hands. However, what is more concerning is that i have since found out that they put it back on the forecourt and sold it on, AND this was BMW main dealer.

Was yours an AUC?

No wasnt an AUC car. Was bought at an Independent dealer but i know the history of the car from 2 previous owners.
It was a fairly local car to me before purchase (Edinburgh) and thats where the last service was done prior to the guy selling it to the dealer I bought it from.

Everything seems to tie in ok i.e. stamps in book, MOT's, condition of everything etc etc.

Question is, have i bought and been running a dog for the past 18 months :bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry: :hahaha:

I think 60K on the clocks is also an unusual mileage for an Insp2 unless it was just a long way overdue for a service... It usually seems to come up around 50K.

What's the service history & mileage shown in the booklet ?

Have just been told i have nothing to worry about :smt041  :smt041:banana::smt041:banana:

I hope it's an inspection II that was needed or else i have just done myself out of a good chunk of cash :banghead:

The car was showing just over 1000 miles over due as i have been holding off as we are off to the Ring in 3 weeks time so i wanted it nice and fresh for that hence the 60k on the clock.
Should have been done at 59K

Normally it goes oil service, insp 1, oil service, insp 2, and starts over again, so you can see what the last one was to see if you needed insp 2 right now.

unless you take it just for an oil change half way through the service interval and some muppet resets it ...

Well collected car this morning and can't recommend the garage enough.
Grassicks BMW In Perth is where the work was done.
Mechanic came through and spent a good 30mins talking through everything he done with the car.

He also put my mind at ease ref the mileage / key issue which although I was told yesterday there was nothing to worry about the doubt is always there. Computer hooked up to the car and its showing 99,???kms which works out at 60K along with what he told me about the condition of all the mechanical parts inc the cam etc so he and I are happy happy happy that I have exactly what i thought i did :smokin:

outnumbered,
Service book reads like this,

Running in service - 1248 miles
Oil Service - 12369 miles
Insp I - 24331 miles
Oil Service - 36292 miles
Oil Service - 47723 miles
Insp II - 60032 miles
All BMW dealerships.

Might even treat it to a clean now :bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry: :hahaha:

Is this the only Inspec II its had? Are they normally due around 60k?

Think it should have the inspection II around the oil service it had at 47K miles.

Right - the Insp2 is about 12K late, the previous owner must have "economised" and done an oil service instead.

Probably not a disaster, but I suppose would stop you having the BMW warranty on it (although at 60K miles I guess that's less likely anyway due to the exorbitant price).

Derek,
They were spot on in every way  thanks for the heads up ;)

Karbonkid,
I asked this as well and the mechanic said that it depends on alot of things like how it's been driven over the years or if it's been laid up with the battery disconnected etc.

phatt///M3,
Spoke with the previous owner and garage about this.
Eastern BMW in Edinburgh were the ones who done this and it is what they said was required at that time so i had to take their word for it.

One other thing he said was that all the fluids were spotless :smokin:

Just Seemed a little high to me as I had Inspec II done a few months back @36k. Short journeys will bring the service trip down quicker too.

That seems spot on as my car is due it's Insp II in about 500 miles time, which by then it will be just about on 47k overall! :)
