Yes of course it makes a difference 50k or not.

Its running in oil and if left in too long can have an adverse effect on the cars in future. Its only meant for a short no stress period and needs to be changed for oil that fully protects.

If I bought a csl from new it would have the 1200 mls running in service near as damn 1200 mls dead. If its missed or gone heavily over in my eyes shows a distinct lack of care, and probably been ragged from 0 miles as well.

1400 is not too outlandish really, if it was 3k I might worry a little.

It never had any special running in oil (which was an untrue rumour for a while) infact it had the same old Castrol TWS 10w60 as we always put in.

It makes a difference because most buyers will go EEEEEEEEK if it's >600 miles or so over, and warranty could be affected tooo.

I really need to check, but I think mine was closer to 2K, but cleared as ok by BMW, given full warranty as AUC car when I got it, and the warranty has been paid out on also.

In which case - either I was lucky, or there's some myth around?

Would it be even better to change the oil once at 600 and again at 1200 miles? Since its a guideline, just like the 12,000 miles service intervals, which is way too long.

At iirc isnt it down to fuel consumption rather than miles covered? If you boot it the service will come round quicker than if you dont?

I've managed just shy of 10K between the last two services however I've changed the oil & filter twice, in between the last two BMW scheduled services due to the T.D. nature of the before mentioned miles :whistle:

a 12000 mile service interval is a great marketing ployl tho don't you think? especially for a high revving performance engine, however with a LOT OF PEOPLE DOING TRACK DAYS ON HERE (fooking duncanism there sorry) it really makes more sense to bounce it off the limiter with clean oil rather than 2 year old 10000mile oil don't you think?
