View Full Version : My Insurance company value my CSL at £19500
Hi All
On the 09/04/10 I crashed my CSL straight into a wall head on it was so bad they had to cut the roof off to get me out. I spent the night in hospital and the next day got out and was back to work within 2 weeks. So all good until this morning when the insurance gave me my offer £19500. I asked the guy if he was joking but he said no that was there offer that is the glasses guide value.
Can anyone help me with this has anyone had experience with an insurance company dealing with a write off value.

Hi Vito,
When you disagree with an insurer on the pay-out value your best bet is to demonstrate to them that similar or even identical cars are worth a lot more than what they are offering.
It seems as though you've already been able to find other CSL's for sale, I assume you've sent this in, what was the outcome of this first of all?
Feel free to ask away with any queries and I'll help as much as possible, I've been dealing with these idiot insurance companies for 10 years now! :bigcry:

Gutted mate, glad you are ok though :)
Sounds like the insurance payout is abouft £6-7k out imo. What are they using from the glasses guide (trade/private/good condition?). I think giving them examples is the best you can do really :(

£24-26 realistically is acheivable
dont settle and dont accept the offer
use the insurance ombudsman if you get no luck after you have justified your claim to them for the full value
£24-26 realistically is acheivable

use the insurance ombudsman if you get no luck after you have justified your claim to them for the full value
The Ombudsman has a minimum 6 month backlog at the moment and he won't get anywhere until he has fully set out his complaint against the inurance company first, if he doesn't do this the the FOS (Financial Ombudsman Service) will just kick it out and tell him to go back to the insurer first to give them a chance to resolve the issue!

Sorry to hear that Vito! Glad you are on the mend.
This was my recent concern when insuring my csl as they said they went by Parkers guide. I questioned this as I asked how could they find one for that price, they then said to me to find one as I had owned, they may have to pay out more or less of the valuation I initially gave them.
Will they not replace it rather than give you the money? I would tell them to go find one with your spec for sale........

Always best to get agreed value if it's available, I'm sure CCI do it, have just emailed and asked...

I am with Flux Direct and I think its NIG who I am insured with. Do I just email Flux then and ask for an agreed value ? They questioned my value and said the figure of £22k which was in the Parkers guide.

Of course your CSL was worth more than that. I'd say minimum £26 000 but more like £28 000 and ask them how much they want for salvage  Talk about adding insult to injuries :clown: :banghead: The cheeky fookers are trying it on with U m8, thinking you've not recovered from a concussion. Using Glasses Guide that's not worth the paper it's written on explains a lot, and anyway as the name suggests it's a bloody "GUIDE" for lazy car dealers and Insurance Co., not the bliming Bible. Tell them if they think they can buy a replacement for your low mileage SG CSL (like for like) for £19500, I for one would like to know how ? and from where ? as for that sort of money I'd buy another CSL and tuck it away for safe keeping
Sorry to see another RHD CSL disappear but I'm glad you're OK and on the mend

It depends on the insurance company as to whether or not they offer it, Adrian Flux might have a scheme with NIG so it's worth asking them to find out for sure

Sounds like a reasonable action to take  (appointing a solicitor) after the shoddy service you've received from the insurance Co. when it mattered most. Even @ £25 000 that's a very conservative estimate for your car + you'll have to pay excess from that. CSL prices seem to be slowly going up so there isn't a lot of choice in that price bracket. IMHO £26 000 - £28 000 would buy you a "like for like" replacement for what U had. Best of luck
I have some photos how do I put them on:bigcry:
Vito, gutted for you mate but glad to hear you're OK. As others have said the right value is min £25k. Whatever next, using webuyanycar.com for insurance values? Handing it to your solicitor is probably wise as this will show the insurance company you are serious and might help focus their minds/resolve the matter quickly...

Hi
I've had similar disagreements with insurance companies in the past
You should collect independent information on prices of CSL’s in the same condition and mileage as your car
I had to do this with a VR6 years ago, in the end I cut a load of ads out of the auto trader and sent them to the insurance company to show fair market value.
You should probably make a note of all the CSL prices on Piston heads of a similar age and mileage and send the information in as a reference with a letter explaining the market value.
I turned down 4 offers before I got the true market value of my VR6, it’s just how insurance companies operate I'm afraid.

Hi All
As the CSL is not even in the Glasses Guide like the insurance company XS Direct said I will fight it. The value they put on the car was a joke. I will miss my car but it can be replayced. I was running my CSL on road tyres not the cups when I hit the wall at about 30 - 40 mph the police told me but I cant remember anything else. I was not trapped but they dont want to twist your body in anyway to get you out and with the CSL seat backs fixed I think they wanted to lift me straight up and out. I was awake at that point and said I would just get out but they would not let me. They cut the roof off they must love using the hydraulic cutters. I have to say thanks to the police, fire service and ambulance service they are GREAT.
