View Full Version : Gearbox Paddle Problem

In my wisdom decided to put on some nice CF paddles.

Can now change up a gear but not down :bigcry: (unless I use the stick)

Paddle doesn't spring back (yes the spring is in place ;-), and there is no click.

Turned the wheel, stuck head in footwell and legs out the drivers window but can't see any obvious issue (with the paddle removed). Hole for the spring, little slot for the "lug" .. not a lot there that I could see to go wrong,

Put the old OEM paddle back on and that has the same problem.

Could take the working (up / RHS / +) paddle off I guess and see if I can spot any difference, but not done this yet.

Any ideas chaps?!

Did see this thread which sounds similar..

http://www.cslregister.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1489&highlight=paddle+problem

PS LHS (down / -) paddle that I was sent had the wrong pin/lug on the back - so wouldn't fit ... once I realised this they sent the correct lug ... (bolts onto the CF paddle with 3 allen bolts) ... now goes on but issue as above. I was careful 1st time round so suprised if I damaged anything, but always possible.

You will have dislodged the plastic part which pushes on the switch. Probably best to remove airbag to check:thumbs:

Chs chaps, look like the microswitch bit that the "lug" on the paddle pushes against was a little out of position, paddles are now on and clicking so will now go for a spin.

Yeah, I agree with Lawsy there, remove the airbag and upper trim and you can see the switches clearly and facilitate fitting much easier. It'll be straight forward, I'm sure you've not broken anything.

Good luck.

Actually although they both now click very nicely I don't get any downshifts... so will refit and sounds like airbag removal + WD40 if that doesn't work...

CF paddles are so much nicer than the OEM tho' - they should have been OEM, what were you playing at BMW!

I think I may well have the world record on longest time to change paddles in progress ;-)

Shame mate, if they are this fiddly and hard to do for something that gives no performance upgrade I don't think I'll bother! :bigcry:
