Hi folks :smt039
I've just signed up as I'm considering chopping in my Z4M Coupe for a CSL. I'm currently speaking to Xtreme UK about this one:
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1664115.htm
Does anybody know the car?
I understand it's had some track use, but as long as everything is kosher, that doesn't necessarily put me off. The main thing is that it's straight.
Cheers,
Simon

Ah right...
So it's been pranged then? I recall there was some issues with NJ cars in that the CSLs they had for sale were of ill repute.
Can anyone shed more light?

Right,
I'm also off to have a look at this tomorrow. I searched the AUC on the off chance and there are actually two CSLs for sale; one in the Isle of Wight with an odd spec and, this little beastie just a couple of hours south of me:
http://www.bmw.co.uk/bmwuk/auc/car_details/0,,1260_159980106__,00.html?currentCh=WBSBL96030JC 98092
It's more miles than I'd like (given that a 20/30k miler could be had for the same money privately), but the carrot with this car is the offer of a two year warranty! Given that I'm an impatient man, the comfort blanket of full dealer back-up when something goes wrong, is hard to ignore. They've also offered me a not-unreasonable price for my car.
Hmmm... http://www.jonrb.com/emoticons/scratchchin.gif
Does anyone know it?
ETA: Great minds s.mac :)
Also, I should add, that I previously got my fingers massively burnt with a GT3 bought from a Porsche main dealer, so I'm starting to think that a CSL which isn't totally standard, could be a bad idea. Moreover it seems the car advertised at Xtreme UK has had some repair work, which is worrying. Conversely the car at Eastern BMW has only had three owners.
Any thoughts on what to look out for?

It's higher mileage, but will presumably have just had an Insp2 and the 2 year dealer warranty is good for peace of mind. I don't think it's a bad price at all for an AUC if you look at what else is out there. Worth a look I'd say.

CSL girl lives there, Im sure she would have looked / checked it out for you before you did the trek ;)
check its history, owners etc etc
I looked at one in a main dealer and it had been
imported / exported a few times, you couldnt trace the full history
other than that you should be pretty well covered with a 2 year AUC warranty

ask them to do it if it hasn't ;)

Interesting that it's had some paint. I wasn't aware it had been for sale for a while either.
Still, I'm not up to anything else tomorrow, so no harm in trotting down for a look.

hi folks
have been thinking about a csl for a while and went to see the one at xtreme in stourbridge today. i've a question about the handling - its got kw suspension fitted, on the test drive when accelerating in second out of roundabouts the rear of the car seemed to be squirming about a bit. i know from speaking to other owners that standard suspension bushes could cause this if worn but should it happen if they still have life left in them? is it normal for csl as though been out in a couple today was my first time driving one?
is it going to be exaggerated because of the lower stiffer kw susp.?
doesn't feel like that in my standard e46m3
cheers

The springs may be too hard, they can be changed, Daz has just done his and he said it has transformed the car ;)

Put a deposit on the AUC CSL at Eastern today
It's higher miles but you'd never know it; the car is as tight as a drum with ner a rattle to be heard anywhere. I certainly couldn't say that about my old GT3 which had half the miles and was a year newer. It's not perfect; as SJA commented last month, there is some wear and tear to the steering wheel and some of the trim; slight chipping to the splitter and there's a tiny dent on the nearside rear quarter. Nevertheless, the drive was superb and I was smitten the second I hit 'Sport' and gave it everything in second.
Oh, and that noise! :smt055
So, subject to a few conditions - namely a full inspection report and invoices for all the work its had recently - it should be mine next week :)

Good man, I was beginning to wonder what was wrong with that car, they seemed to have a while. I checked it out one day while I was waiting to collect the Mrs at the airport, looked in good condition and with the new exhaust and suspension parts seemed a good buy for someone. A new set of splitters will sort that front end right out and the ding will pop out easily enough. I'm surprised they never done that while preparing it but then again, they must've spent a fortune on the suspension and exhaust. :supz:

There's an invoice for £3500 notwithstanding the warranty work carried out also. To that end, I believe them when they say their margin all but disappeared after they knocked the price down. As it stood, £29k was a lot for a car in need of some remedial work (RTABs/Control Arm bushes/rear struts and top mounts to name but a few).
The mileage will have detracted a few also, but bearing in mind four of the six //M cars I've owned previously were all high mileage, I'm not put-off by a car that's been used a little more. It's worth less, but I won't worry so much about using it as //M Division intended.
Anyway, that's enough from me until the paperwork's all done. I shan't be celebrating just yet.

Hi
Congratulations on your new purchase.
I live in Edinburgh and have bought many cars from Eastern - they are a good bunch. I had a look at the car last week and overall it is pretty nice. From my recollection it just needs the steering wheel and handbrake cover refurbed. They can get this done locally, it takes a week to do and is much cheaper than a new wheel (£700 ish).
The drivers CSL sill plaque has a dent in it. about £100 for a new one.
I think it has cups on it. As we all know great for track use but not much fun on the road unless you get them hot. Not sure of your views on this. They may change them if you ask for a better all rounder tyre. I may be interested in the one's on it if you don't want them.
Just bought my second CSL a few weeks ago. Like yours this time I went for a higher mileage car to use rather than a mega low mileage one that I worried about putting miles on!
I am lucky that my latest CSL has all the toys for a track outing.
You may want to treat yourself to a set of AP or Alcon Brakes if you plan to get it round a circuit.
I am sure you will love it.

Well, I've got it
I'm not sure there's anything to say that hasn't been said before. However, I've owned six M-cars previously and have driven just about every iteration M-Division has produced over the last twenty years from the E30 M3 to the E92 M3. The CSL is by far their best effort.
It's simply a fantastically well resolved package and despite its size and relative heft, the car shrinks around its driver in a way I've not experienced before in a BMW. It was either this or an Exige S and I think my decision has been vindicated. Obviously the M3 looses out to the Lotus in terms of feel and directness, but one prod of the 'Sport' button and a flick of the left paddle is enough to blow any doubt into the weeds. What a car; what a noise!
For the first time since taking delivery of my [subsequent disaster of a] GT3, I am truly smitten.
Pics to follow once I've removed the fly desecration from the front end :smokin:
