got a squeeking noise coming from the back when going over bumps or bumpy roads, sounds like suspension possibly.

Common thing? Any ideas?

Thx in advance

I snapped a spring in mine whilst at the ring, could also be rtabs?

I snapped a spring in mine too, could be that if there's a wee bit of knocking too but otherwise, might be the topmounts on the rear struts or as above, RTAB's.

PS This is great being able to post again! lol

It's your exhaust mount. Trust me on this one ;)

RTAB or top mount won't give you a squeak noise going over a bump.

easily fixed?

Pretty sure it wouldnt be RTABs as these were replaced last year

Easy fix, I got mine done under warranty despite having a Milltek fitted. Sorry, I forget about that one.

No idea mate, my car was in getting a new Diff fitted and they sorted it at the same time. Can't take longer than an hour, surely!

Not hard to do - 2 x 12mm nuts and 2 x 13mm nuts for each mount. Althought best to remove the diffuser first for easier access and make sure you have a good jack.

I can swap in and out a stock muffler on my car on my own with good tools and a big cardboard box and bit of contortion on my back and I am only a little fella :hahaha:

It's usually the driver side that goes first as it's a single mount vs the double mount on the passenger side. Sometimes it's the little U mounts on the intermediate pipe, but if those are gone then chances are the muffler mounts would also be perished.

Is this the same as exhaust mounts?

They took it in today and fixed the battery cover in the boot! Said it was all fixed. Lo and behold I got half way home and found actually it was still squeeking just as much!:banghead:

exhaust mounts can go rear or mid car. rear can cause a rattle and mid can cause a knocking imho

a squeak is more likely to be suspension related or subframe mounts cracks which is a big job but bmw pay. If they check for cracks under the car near subframe mounts or in the boot they will find out pretty quick if they know what they are looking for

Cheers Shimmy. Booked in to go back next weds and will take a technician for a test drive so they can hear the noise. it's definitely not a knocking! They apparently checked over the rear suspension but clearly missed something.

Are BMW paying for repair of subframe cracks even on non warrantied cars?

yes as long as they cant wriggle out of it (aftermarket suspension or other mods related to subframe failure etc etc)

after the US class action i doubt they'd try to wriggle out generally as their rep might get tarnished

just make sure if you take your car in for something that could be for subframe mount cracks either dont wear any a/m suspension or wheels OR go to an Indy garage first to get it checked. Simpsons will check it in 30 mins max

No further forward. Took the car into BMW this morning, took a technician out, and the car wouldn't make the noise. I knew it wouldn't it didn't yesterday or on the way over there. They've inspected it, again, checked the subframe mounts and exhaust mount as per my request and say it's all fine and they replicate the noise.

Not sure if the weather/heat is having some sort of affect on the noise, but suspect maybe it does. :banghead:

Oh and the courtesy car I got? shitheap

I had my car body/subframe checked at Simpsons this week. No sign of anything untoward happening - yet!

Mine squeeks too and found some missing plastic bolts on the two plastics trays in the trunk (bought mine used) that solved part of the problem. I've never driven a new CSL so I don't know what's a normal sound or not given the lack of sound deadening. Can any original CSL owners offer an opinion here?
