Think it's genuine stuff, though I think it's just a 'shell' of carbon over the original plastic or whatever it is. Anyway, thought it may be of interest...
Copied from e36coupe.com:
jumping on to part of the interior i was on the look out for some very special bucket seat's but had to look oem, as seen many bucket seats in beemers ,alot look totally out of place and abit chavy.
after seeing adonis journal with his e46 M3 CSL recaro's, i knew that they were perfect for the e36 with regards to looking as oem as possible for this car.these seats arent exactly 10 to the dozen and took 18months to source a pair without getting messed around with price and if they actually had them in the first place.once acquired i wasnt happy with the back's being grey and sent them over to andy to do his magic to carbon the whole back of them, which he has done a cracking job as per.

Not bad but i still think BMW performance seats are the best!! It's a Shame you need to modify it to fit to E46 M3. :hahaha:

No it's a carbon copy, will look OEM bar the harness holes, same trim / cloth , bit more padding if needed / option .. carbon back , and if so desired a logo.. aka Small CSL in the seat or head back .. aka GT3 or RS etc etc .. stitching colour your choice etc ..
Once ive done the deal will get a group buy price etc and indvidual specs..
Wanted mine done first so I can see the quality and finish and then able to show peeps ..

But will they comply with crash test standards?

But will they comply with crash test standards?
Good point !
Why do you know something we don't.
What crash test standards if they are any, do a copy of a seat have to meet ? (same runners and seat belt point) ?

There cobra seats, and the company are able to supply to order so in-effect any of the range, currently they dont do one like the recaro in ours, but watch this space and then with the holes and carbon backs .. bingo ...Jeeez .. http://forum.thescubasite.com/party/party0010.gif (http://www.thescubasite.com)
Hence why I was waiting till they were all done till I gave all the detail.. as I said its all in hand and will be as good as the OEM ones in there, road car compatible but with the extra FIA stamp so also good if tracking with harness holes and the ability to tailor it to you if so desired .. simples

I was referring to the structure of the seat rather than the mounting points, I wouldnt like to imagine someone being in a crash with a copied seat and end up loosing their life because the seat wasnt up to the job. Doesnt matter if it looks nice in CF or not.
FIA approved .. Not gonna mess around with seats;)
Thats great, will be very interesting then, look forward to it. Are they supposed to mount on the original brackets and thus tilt (even only a little)?
Will GT3 Seats Fit? heheh
As long as they arent the copies from Asia

OK so esentially a Recaro Pole Position in the CSL finish with a CF back. I would love some with holes but that can still tilt like the original ones.

Are these actually going to be lighter than original? ie it's not carbon over original (can't see the point otherwise). If they are replacing the plastic what is the weight saving and finally are these being made by somebody who know what Carbon does in an accident and how they are likely to brake and hence which way the weave shoudl go. Carbon can slice you nicely if it isn't offering the strength in the right direction????????

Daz, don't Recaro already do these? CSL seats are basically Recaro PP's without the holes aren't they? Any idea on a rough price yours will be?
Here's the carbon PP's (4.5kg):

linky (http://www.recaro.com/index.php?id=5808&L=2)
DesignTek also do a PP-alike seat (6.5kg), though the back's not as pretty, but for about £300 each it's not bad:

If you carry rear passengers, i think it's a bit pointless. Would cry if they got scuffed...
The NSX-R uses the CSL seat, just with the harness holes and CF back. First thing i thought when sitting in one was "Like being back in the CSL" :)

BMW Performance seats manufactured by Recaro (look strangely familiar)
2.899,00 EUR per pair + Vat + Delivery, they aren't the cheapest nor are they Carbon from what I can make out and we get them for free, without the holes ! ! !
Picture for illustration courtesy of 'Cutters' see they do offer something, sometimes.

The BMW performance Recaro's are the same ones that VW, Renault, Landrover and various other manufacturers use with different covers.
