Needing some help solutions and what part I need to order ?

Exhaust mounts talk to me :hahaha:

How many are there in total can see two either side, one of them has broken on me today and the exhaust is rattling around under the car on the boot floor.

Need to order them tomorrow, so might as well change all of them as no doubt if one has perished the others will not be far behind.

Thanks in advance

Or should I wrap em in carbon vinyl

You don't usually have to order these - you can reuse the ones on your car - they just pry off the rubber mount. Unless it's rusty and falling to pieces of course.

And even if a little bent you can bent them back with a hammer or large pliers.

the one I took off, is steel with a rubber coating and the outer steel does look part of the structure, I cant see any way in getting it off ?
The new part is only rubber and has no strength to it at all ...

Sytner Ascot on Sat AM, know a couple of the boys in the workshop so they chucked it on for me for a drink, but I was in a rush and couldnt hang around.

Think as the rubbers are brand new its pulled it up a lot more, so probably needs some washers to give it a bit more or a gap whilst still being tight.

Will try and live with it till it goes in for the diff seal on the 24th as they said they will play with it then ..

I did a bit of DIY in the garage when it started to hail today. Managed to strip off the final rubber mount which was knackered so I need to order one for delivery next week.

http://i401.photobucket.com/albums/pp97/shimmylasco/CSL/exhaustrubber.jpg

Also had a go at dropping the SS back box a little but it really needs more adjustment than I can see me getting do that can wait.

Finally whilst in the mood I striped off a few other broken bits like the two little mud flaps in front of the rear wheels which had split, the finger guard for the radiator fan which had broken at Snett (I guess something had hit it), had a go at the heat shield at the rear which since fitting the SS box and getting subframe done had started to rattle and also removed the front number plate and holder which is coming loose.

http://i401.photobucket.com/albums/pp97/shimmylasco/CSL/photo.jpg

Then i took to bits the BMW wheel centre caps which come to bits to 3 pieces as the BMW bit looked shite.

http://i401.photobucket.com/albums/pp97/shimmylasco/CSL/wheelcap.jpg

I've got a few bits to buy somewhere now..........:smokin:

With regards to the SS adjustment... on the exhaust hangers on the backbox there are slots, so you might be able to move the backbox up/down using those. (see below)

http://www.klangford.com/images/ssrace_step11.jpg

Also if one side sits lower than the other you should be able to adjust according to this site: http://www.klangford.com/ssraceinstall.htm - worth a read.

Or if you still can't do it, take it somewhere to get it done for you :hahaha:

Mine also sits under the bumper and i cant see the tops of the tips but it does it's job and chucks everything out the rear so it's no biggie.

I'd think it might be a struggle to get it out further as its goverend by the fixed Flange on the centre part of the system that the rear box bolts to so that dictates how far in or out it sits.

I cant say when I put a SS centre section on that the noise level increased, although I never had a meter to check ... I did think the drone increased at slow non accelerating speeds.
I think most of the noise comes from the backbox.
Im not even sure if decats increased the noise levels but just the tone to a more raspy sound although Dazza may be able to confirm, I might be slighty deaf :(

I have thought about the SS resonated one but for now the OEM is fine :)

Just thought id chuck a update on the mounting solutions from yesterday as I know some of you have or are about to purchase new ones, and fit / re-fit looking at this thread now..

So main issue after having new rear rubbers on was the rear supersprint box was pulled up higher, probably down to the fact that the mounts were worn when it was first fitted, as not something that we all do when replacing the system.

Best / easiest way to get this dropped down just enough, is to remove all and re attach with some washers for spacing it lower on the underside, it now looks as it should.

On playing around yesterday also noted that my mid section mounts (the ones on the actual exhaust) has snapped on one side see pic, so had to spot weld this back together, and all sorted now, so just might be worth checking a few bits and bobs when doing the whole system ;)

Good update Daz  ... I did my mid section mounts few days ago and noticed the flanges on the mid exhaust were bent upwards :smt017 therefore the mid section was hanging lower then it should be and banging on the rear suspension, especially when driving on bumpy roads. (mainly THANX to going through the Karussell 55 times  few weeks ago) Now having fitted the new mid mounts (as per pic) and re bending the flanges to a fully horizontal position, has put a stop to all that banging.

Looks like we've all been doing some exhaust lovin' lately! :smt055

I swapped out the OEM centre pipe for a SS unresonated centre section today. I thought it would be a 2 hour job but it ended up taking somewhat longer...! The six bolts that attach the centre section to the cats are a real pain to get to and then i struggled for a while to remove the 3 x 16mm bolts that hold the cross member in place. You need to remove this to give space to remove the pipe.

Once off i noticed that the OEM section was noticeably heavier than the SS as expected. I swapped the heat shield and mounting bracket over before fitting the SS. Fitting was a little quicker than removal although one small problem was that i noticed rather too late that the SS flanges are thinner than the OEM ones and consequently overtightened the bolts slightly... Once all back on i did a leak check and all seemed ok apart from a minor condensation weep from one of the flange unions at the back box end.

First impressions on a short test drive revealed that it is indeed noisier - particularly under hard acceleration. It makes the CSL 'rasp' sound even angrier but is not really much noisier at slower speeds

after getting a rattle located at BMSport today i need to replace the mid mounts and check the brackets are level to pull the exhaust up (and then as Daz said maybe space the rear down a bit as long as it dont make the middle worse)

Can the middle mounts be done without removing the mid section exhaust - how difficult?????:smokin:

I reckon it's probably doable but don't quote me on that! Wait and see what mattCSLnut comes back with :hahaha:

You need to remove the 4 bolts on each of the metal sections that go over the mid section (9 in pic below), one has 2 more nuts which hold the rubber mounts. Once these are off you should be able (if you can get to the 2 nuts on top) remove the old rubbers from the exhaust itself and replace with new ones then put the metal plates back on.... hope that makes sense.

I did mine on a friends ramp... 13 mm ratchet spanner is the tool that you'll need to use  on the top nuts (not enough room for anthing else) The driver side was easy but for the passenger side I pushed the whole exhaust over by wedging a block of wood against the chassis. Also remember to remove both metal plates that are bolted to the chassis. This'll give you enough room to ratchet the spanner back and forth... douse no need to remove the whole exhaust system just to change the middle mounts  Having access to a proper ramp did come in very handy
