Have noticed that the rear silencer on my car has seen better days.
has a snapped flange and TBH looks pretty groggy round the welds etc.
Now my car has 60+K on it so for an original i think it has done not to bad.
Question now though,
Replace flange with new one and a little bit of welding on a pretty tatty rear box?
Pick up 2nd hand one from the likes of Ebay and take the chance it's better than what i have?
Buy one of these: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/M3-E46-BACK-BOX-EXHAUST-MTK-STAINLESS-QUAD-NEW_W0QQitemZ330390962065QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Car sParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item4cecd5ff91
Never heard of them before (MTK) but have bought Scorpion's from Roadrunner in the past for previous RS's.
Not wanting to spend a fortune TBH as i was quite happy with the std set up but if i can go SS for only a couple of hundred quid more then i probably should.
Anyone know what they are like and if they are loud or not?
I have a track day coming up at Croft with a very strict noise limit of 95db so need to pass this.
Cheers,

If you pick one up from ebay make sure you get a CSL one. I dont know about the SS one in the link, but in general boxes that are that shape tend to be loud as they are quite a bit smaller than the standard anchor.

The 'MTK' looks like its based on a Milltek lightweight box... BOOM BOOM! :bigcry:

If you don't like anything too loud then stick with OEM.
The CSL one is only ever so slightly lighter than M3 ones 50lb vs 55lb

Miltek, Borla, Remus, AC Schnitzer are the only aftermarket exhausts that I would say aren't intrusively loud and comparable to OEM. Most others also drone real bad.

Good info guys :smokin:
Noise is probably the biggest issue for me as i 100% need it to be below 95db on a static noise test.
See what you are saying about the size of the silencer box on the MTK one, it does look a little short compared to standard.
Scorpion also do one which has a full length silencer but again without hearing one or speaking with someone who has one fitted it's a bit of a gamble.
Have no issues with the Qaulity side of Scorpion just the noise.

absolutely no drone form the SS race box, but it can be a little louder than you want sometimes

i find the ss ok when it`s warm does sound quite loud when its cold though, worth the extra money imo as it`s a lot lighter.

If they have an on track sensor, the air induction alone will ping that if you are giving it the beans !! ..does at Bedford and im running OEM !

I've got an OEM one at simpsons that I don't need anymore so would sell for a small amount. Problem is you are a bit far away and suspect that the postage makes it difficult to do a deal?

That's very tempting Nathan but i have a suspicion the postage will be quite hefty.

A mate of mine got one of those MTK ones for a standard M3 and he says it's loud. Not GruppeM loud, more like a Milltek loud WITH the Milltek boom to boot. Looks very good quality though, well made.
