Spent some time 'fiddling' with the car today in readiness for my first outing to the Ring in two weeks.
Firstly, i connected my new CTEK battery charger to the car to sort the battery out with the car having sat dormant for much of the past 4 months.
I also did my annual spring clean inside the airbox and replaced my ITG air filter with a standard BMC filter. Inside it was pretty skanky with the usual sand pit forming inside :hahaha:
Then the garage door decided to break on me when the support wires snapped :banghead:

I presume the door knocked some sense into you, and didnt damage the car:smokin:

A good job worth doing every so often, esp if used as a daily. Mine was shocking when I cleaned it out last year. Dont think it had ever been done. Also had a fresh new OEM BMC fitted this week from Inspec II. (I hope, so im going go check)!

I have just updated to a C-tek, did you just lift the panel or have you hard wired the fly lead in?
I was gonna drill a little hole in the black tray but couldnt bring myself to do it in the end!:bigcry:
Yuk! the sand is a bit of a worry. ive never done mine....i think i might have a look this weekend, mines a flapless daily driver

I connect my ctek in the engine bay.
The hood can close and I am quite happy with the result, since most of the time my car sits in the garage for 1-2-3 weeks in a row.

I wondered what that one of many creaks were in the back!
Rob, ITG vs BMC, talk to me!
I presume the ITG was letting in all that $hit or does that happen with std BMC anyway?

I tried this Alex as it's what the M3 owner's manual recommends for charging a battery. However, my CTEK would not go to charge mode for some reason :smt102
It works fine direct to the battery

Good idea, i had wondered if it would have a slight voltage drop but if it works for you its gonna work for me!
Earth it anywhere BTW?

Inside this compartment (where your cars have the brake master cylinder) there is the negative pole.
You connect the negative there.
It's not visible now (it's inside and down) but I could take a pic if you can't find it.

I would imagine that both do it - i have run ITG since owning the car 2 years. The seal on the ITG tends to be a little better certainly, and they tend to come a bit stickier out of the packet.
I was led to believe by a certain tuner that the ITG filter is better than the BMC original - i certainly never noticed any difference and of course tuners are going to claim that as they want to sell more! I'm sure it is as good as OEM - it is slightly cheaper at least. They seem to stop the majority of stuff but i always get tiny particles of grit/sand behind the panel inside the airbox. Luckily this 'sand' seems to stick itself to the oily residue that resides inside the airbox housing so doesn't appear a big problem...
I will leave the BMC on for this year and see how i get on.

Good jobs Rob. I found a fair bit of cleaning required in mine also.
My CTEK is hard wired direct to the battery. You can pass the cable up between the carpet and battery cover, no problem. Just zip tie the wire so it passes through in the best area to avoid scuffing the cable and stop it moving about.
Probably see you in a couple of weeks Rob. I'm 95% sure I can make it combining the trip with a business meeting near Antwerp. It's part of my business expenses you see.:smokin:
