Well I picked her up on Monday night and she was double dirty. The revious owner clearly knew nothing about how to clean a car.
So at 10am I stared with a foam wash, paint cleanse, clay, polish and sealant.
Once I had her looking good, I fixed the sound system (someone had spent a fortune on kit but had not set it up very well)
Finally at 4pm I finished and this is what I was left with . . . .

I used some Serious Performance Sealant - I cannot tell you all how good this stuff is - so much better than many products I have spent £££ on. It is so tough and it lasts for ages. Here is a picture of how it makes the flake in the paint pop . . .

and finally after giving the roof the same SP Sealant . . .

The wheels need a good refurb but painting them is always going to leave them with a substandard finish (IMHO) so week after next they are going to be stove enamelled so they will look shiny and stay looking nice.
Sorry For Pic Hoaring

Car looks very good mate
Can you tell me more about 'stove enamelling'? It sounds better than standard painting?
Nothing wrong with photo whoring btw ;)

So there are a few types of powder coating. The first is done by spraying a powder onto the surface and then either baking it (dry coating) or letting it dry naturally (wet coating). The issue with these ways of doing things is this quality of finish is not the great - have you ever felt a radiator where there are bits in the finish. You often end up with a dull and bity finish.
Stove enamelling is not a new thing. It follows the same process as the dry coating but the powder is different. It is finer and therefore gives a finer finish. It is also more glossy in it's finish so looks more like paint (a lot of high end wheels are coloured this way). It is also very hard wearing so is good for cleaning with a pressure washer.
There are a million colours to chose from and you can match practically any colour by mixing the batch in the same way you can match paint.

Hi Mark
Thanks that would be awesome. - Just as well I did not post any pictures of how she looked when I got her - you would have been gutted.
Still looking much happier now.
So what can you tell me.
Thanks

That's a shame, when she left me, she was pristine.
On the iPhone at the moment, so I will keep it brief. All I can say is that as long as the previous owner looked after it, you have yourself a true gem. I even tried to buy it back but couldn't afford it sadly.
I'm sure you did your homework as I did before buying. However, I had plenty done to the car. I used each accident repair as an opportunity to get new bits, also when I got it back after it was nicked I had that ICE fitted, shame it wasn't set up right!
I joke of course, no accidents or thefts.
Did you know that a previous owner was Chris Rea? Not that it adds any value but interesting.
I made huge use of the warranty that was on the car during my ownership. I also extended it, I'm not sure if the subsequent owner did.
Don't panic... It was all superficial stuff that came as a result of a good contact in the service dept.
I painted the bumper and amour fended it.
It's an awesome example that sounds as though has been neglected. I think you have a great car there.
Forgive my rambling nostalgia, although the only car I have made money on, yes made. I regret selling it but did I enjoy driving her, oh yes.
Ps you could see your face in the exhaust tips under my ownership, pics to prove!
Enjoy it mate

And it has a brand new engine !!! That's a bonus in my opinion!!
It's a good car if Mark owned it - anything that needed replacing would have and more because Mark authorises all BMW related warranty claims :hahaha:
Good to see it back in the club ...

Damn Mark, I read that first bit about stolen and my heart sank. LOL.
The car seems fine mechanically but the paint needed six hours of love to get it looking slick. The interior is very good all apart from a couple marks. The wheels are shot though - a poor cleaning regiem has lead to the brake dust eating into the paint. There is a chip in one of them but I think they are repairable.
So the car has a new engine. Do you know what mileage the car was on when it was replaced?
Thanks for the excellent feedback - even the heart attack inducing first part.

Wow, two Marks with CSL's who would of thought?
I go to sleep an awake to a massive following of supporters to whom I didn't realise I had, only to have my short term fame stolen from me. I chose my evotecknik/darkline username as has kpkpkp, I wasn't trying to copy or be clever.
Yes it's a different Mark, sorry. However, this doesn't make me a bad person... Just because i'm not the other Mark doesn't mean the cars any worse.
The car has never had a new engine. It has had a new clutch, that's about it. It has never needed anything else.
However, as mentioned I had a contact at my local dealer whom I asked to do an AUC check on the car once I had purchased it (safe in the knowledge that if there was a problem the warranty would of taken care of it).
They said the car was tip top and that if they was going to market the car as A1, they would change a few cosmetic bits.
We had to do it in stages as to not raise any suspicion.
New steering wheel
Not sure of name (silver runners inside doors with csl on)
Bushes all round
Springs (one had cracked)
I spent a great deal of cash on the stereo and may even have the instructions still if they were not passed on. I had two sets. A great deal of effort was put into keeping the install as neat as possible.
I did a BMW check on the cars service history and all the due dilligence possible before parting with my money, great car you have there.
Took me ages of traveling the country looking at some terrible examples but I was in no hurry having not long before I brought a brand new M3 convertible. I live in Essex and ended up in Yorkshire to see this one.

However, the story ends when the financial crisis hit and as the owner of a mortgage brokerage smack bang in the middle of it all, they had to go (along with the helicopters and speedboats). I saw SXR on pistonheads a while back and called the dealer but the deal would of ended in divorce and to be fair to the Mrs, she has stood by me through the bad and it would of been the wrong thing to do, very tempting though.
The mortgage market has returned which is good news but my attention has returned to smaller toys... Ducati 848 please. All I need is one of those memory eraser pens that they have in Men in Black that makes you forget about things, in particular CSL ownership. Only a bike will give me the same buzz.
Apologies if my joke about accident damage and theft caused alarm, however, I am bitterly jealous!! I'm sure you understand...
Its a lovely day today, I know she used to enjoy a Mequires clay rub, enjoy!

Hi Mark
Thanks for clearing that up. I know you from Evo T - I used to have a White E 46 M3 with CSL wheels, bumpers and stuff, then changed it for a 911 C2S. I remember your car from their.
If you have the instructions for the amps that would be well handy as I can see the money you spent on the Audio/Sound Steam kit. I had to resolder the contact points on the rear components and the sub yesterday. I cannot get the fade to work from front to rear for some reason but I have sussed out mist of the other stuff. Did you ever run the fronts on full range or did you have the on a high pass filter. The system has plenty of rumble but very little punch?
It is funny you mention the CSL kick plates as it was one of things I was mist impressed with as all the others I looked at had tarnished.
It was only the second CSL I looked at but I could tell instantly she was the one.

Small world, I remember sending you a pm offering to buy it! I loved that car.
I will see what I have on the amps but I suspect you have more luck on the web? I am not sure about how it was wired up but it sounded good when I had it? Sorry I can't help more. I'm sure front and rear fade worked.
Cheers
