Try his luck on on the approach to Druids but didn't make it stick.

you can see what a 32 car grid looks like, fooking great. Real close racing some things you don't see on the telly.

While trying to have a pop for the lead - my fucking wheel nuts came loose on the nsf, had to retire!:banghead:

A real shame after going from 8th on the grid to second around the outside of Paddock Hill on lap 1. I really did wonder if I was going to make it to be honest.

Race 2 was hard work, ran 5th for half the race, manged to get to 3rd, until some tit decided to use my drivers door instead of their brake pedal to get round Clearways - thanks for that! Finished 4th.

Thanks for the photo's Iain - hope you enjoyed the day, good to catch up again. I'll be racing again at Brands on May 23rd on the GP circuit, which I have never driven, so I'll sneaking in a test day!

Apologies Silver Bullet - the only reason I assumed you were next to me in the paddock with a Sunbeam is because the Sunbeam's number plate was "Silver Bullet"

were they freshly painted rims?

Yep, fresh paint - but we had masked off all the faced areas. It actually turned out to be incorreclty supplied wheel nuts - the taper angles didn't match the wheel. Another important lesson learnt in life!

Shimmy, were you racing in the TTRS? I know a guy (Simon Glen) who was driving an E30 M3 in those races.

That is Joss Ronchetti. Now that thing is fookin rapid. 330bhp and 770kg... Drum rear brakes! I beat him in the wet, but in the dry he is a bullet!

2.7 Lotus highly tuned. Still on carbs...

I still kind of am one  and have a MK2 16V GTi :hahaha: A small bumper 3 door in Helios Blue with factory Leather & A/C ... Originally SOLD New by "Dovercourt at Battersea" for £16 500 :smt107 back in 1988 (I still have the original invoice). Apart from all the usual 16V GTi speck it has pretty much every other option including factory remote alarm ( a novelty in 1988 ), PAS, lecky windows, rear head rests with the before mentioned leather interior and factory Air Con ( £1300 option back in 1988 ) She's a "Rolling Restoration" and once finished will probably be SOLD to the next Golf Nut :smt089
By the way, great days racing by the look of things :supz: shame about the loose/incorrect wheel nuts :bigcry:

Thats a lovely car mate, cant be many like that left unmolested......even the dealer plates look like new:thumbs:

My pa had a big bumpered 16valve, i used to love it when he wound it up in second gear, great revving engine.
He part x'd it for a Corrado VR6 in the end after we found out it had been in a massive crash, front, back & both sides:bigcry:

Decent Mk 2 16V are becoming quite rare now - especially since the Golf Championship started in 2007. There have been around 70 cars built for the championship since then and I reckon it has had a small impact on availability and prices of these cars now. We used to be able to pick up a 100,000 miler with a bit of MOT, solid shell, everything complete and working for about £500 - thrash it all the way home and they would never miss a beat - the perfect base for a race car. You have to pay nearly double that for pile crap now.
