View Full Version : New Windscreen
My windscreen is broken and needs replacing, don't ask how I'm still too angry to talk about it.
Anyway, its a climate comfort screen, I can get it fixed through the insurance but they'll only supply a copy part and I'd really prefer the proper BMW item (which they'll charge extra for, they reckon up to £200 without checking) . I've phoned BMW and they require £308 +VAT for the screen.
Anybody know any suppliers and/or what a fair price to pay is? And also, what am I looking for to identify it as a genuine BMW item?
Cheers.

I had a 'pattern' replacement climate comfort screen last year. Like BOUNCE says, they are all Pilkington i believe.
I haven't noticed any difference - just cost me the £70 insurance excess

Think climate comfort was a cost option, seems to be listed on the supplementry options section of the order sheet for mine.
Ok, so if i can get a pilkington manufactured screen it's as good as OEM, thanks for the info chaps.
Also the fitters asked me that if it's fitted with auto headlamp sensors? is this the case with the CSL, didn't realise the sensors for this were located in the screen, I'm awAre of the rain sensors but lights too??

Grad Tint is the standard CSL screen - it has the green shaded band at the top. I had this on my car until they fitted the Climate Comfort last year.
The only downside to a CC screen is that my satnav struggles to acquire a signal on startup so i have to hold it out the window until it figures out where i am!
Rain sensor standard on both i believe.

What's the advantage of a CC screen over standard green band, which incidentally doesn't always have the Rain Sensor. Mine at present is a green band windscreen without R.S..

CC has additional UV protection from the sun and lessens glare due to embedded protection. It also has a 'cool' purple shade to it!
My old Grad Tint screen had the rain sensor - you can see the sensor inside the rear view mirror housing on the outer face and know that it is working by moving the w/s wipe stalk to the first position on starting the car - they will then go off as required - activated by the sensor.
hmmm, fitter can't guarantee a Pilkington, they just take what comes from the supplier. Anyone know if there are any other manufacturers that make the CC screens? If Pilks are the only manufacturer who makes them then thats probably whats going to appear off the van and I'll chance it. Otherwise its back to a dealer supplied one for the extra ££
Newsflash: Rather helpful chap at fitters has confirmed its a Pilki. Gone for that with just the £70 excess. Fingers crossed.
