My brakes seem really good so far - not like the standard M3 ones so do you really need a BBK?

That should've triggered some of Gaute's spidy senses!
Mine groan like fuck when stood on hard, pisses me off, getting upgraded!

AP or Alcons are the accepted best choice imho.
I have APs.

AP callipers, prob PF discs
one thing about the AP5575 cslliper is that apart from being reliable and strong it also fits inside 18inch rims should you need that later
not sure if Alcon do?

Assume so as the CSL cup cars run 18" TD wheels?
Either setup will be fine, in braking power both are limited by the grip of the tyre, 2 hours of racing and no fade at all on the APs with PF disks and RS29 and I'm sure Alcons would do exactly the same.

Mine fit Shimmy:thumbs: on the td 18's, they do anyway. Plenty of space.
I will try my standard m3 18x9's tomorrow. And report back.

Lawsy
the 9 and 9.5 will fit ok. The bit they usually foul is the spokes. The 5575 calliper is a slimmed down 5555 calliper just to miss these. The fronts have a much bigger offset therefore more lilly to foul

How much are the APs and is it front and rears or just fronts.

Just fronts would suffice,
with hoses and uprated rear pads on standard rear discs.

I ran with just fronts for about 18 months before getting the rears, only difference is brake balance isn't quite so good, stopping distances seemed the same but the car pitches forward more IMO.

Is there actually much difference between the 'monobloc' Alcon's and the 'normal' AP calipers?
I can't see there being that much difference between the two, I'd rather paint the AP calipers a more fetching yellow! :bigcry: :smokin:

None that us hobby drivers will notice.
I only opted for mine as I got them for £2500 almost new as well:thumbs:
And I sold my AP's for a good price, so thought I would give them a try.

I'm over the moon with my Alcons running RS29's and Castrol SRF fluid.
Reassuringly expensive!

my Ap callipers have done 50k miles, 6000 track miles, been through about 10 sets of pads and 3 sets discs
just refurbed the front seals and never had any issue with them, perfect:thumbs:

I also was running on fronts for over a year, and recently i got the rears fitted. It is alot more balanced when braking now.
Ofcourse, non of this matters if you do not plan to track the car. And the standard brakes are fine, as long as you upgrade them a little, pads, fluid and hoses.

Big Brakes not needed unless you race.
Decent Pads, lines and fluid are fine for trackdays. Just don't look as flash and have slightly less precise pedal feel. But braking force is no better than OEM. Don't worry about the noise. Is high iron content ATE disks. Great quality and miles better than AP cheese.
Can't comment on the Alcon stuff, but the calipers look very similar to the APs.
