wow yes you do have a problem, however with a garage that size it's no surprise you accumalated so many, I bet you could find a few more if you looked 'under' some stuff. My wife is always finding stuff Ive been looking for because it was 'under' something :hahaha:

Hi,

Wider tyres do not give more grip
for the reasons you think.

Hi,

The point I was alluding to was that say
a 275 gives slightly more grip than say
255 by margin of 3% but increases drag
by 5% then the net gain would very
little other than a larger hole in your
wallet.

Looking at Shimmy's Tyre wall makes
you think !!!

Be interesting to see some data on the
same car running say 255 and then
275 , and then running a 24mm
O/A increase in track width, say with 12mm
spacers each side with the 255's ?

Regards,

The Gorilla.

now there is a question :hahaha:

do you want the story i have perfected to my wife or just the plain old truth

i bought a load of new tyres (8 - 12) late 2008 early 2009 for the coming TD season as i had a deal going with my supplier.

Also i have bought two sets of rims in late 2009 both of which i bought with tyres (10 Cups and 4 Pirellis)

CUps are now lasting me (with intrax) about 1200+ track miles on the rear and 850+ on the front as long as i dont overheat them and they are heat cycled first so realistically 2009 and onwards i didnt need as many as i thought

This is what is left

What do you mean heat cycled first Shim, also is this only needed with brand new tyres?

shimmy

If you google 'heat cycle tirerack' I seem to remember a good explaination.

New Tyres only and it helps to prolong the life of the tyre. Mainly used for race tyres that get no gradual build up to the intense heat that can occur on track.

You can do it yourself if you run the Tyres on road first . I always think that a drive out to the Ring or Spa followed by a cooling off overnight is perfect but that isn't alway possible

if you have a new set and want to track them just make sure thy the day before you do some spirited driving. :)
