Look I've got my coat already but I need to know something about the SMG box.

It's been explained to me that the box is a 'clutchless manual' and not an autobox. This kind of makes sense to me so I assume you lift and flick (que funnies). Is this correct? and as I'll probably be driving one for the first time in damp cold conditions. Do I need to keep the setting on S1 and can anybody explain the technical differences between S1 through S6?

Further explaining:- I have NEVER driven an auto, just manual (that's my excuse btw)

Cheers

im not great authority on this (planty others are) but i know it is a manual WITH a clutch as my clutch has been replaced twice! THe ECU activates the clutch and throttle soemtimes for you as you change (it blips). You can select Auto mode and it changes gear for you, and S1 to S6 will then also effect when the ECU changes up or dowj a gear (ie in S6 on track in Auto it drives like a dream.)

stick it in s3-s4 (s1-6 is speed of gear change - higher it is , faster ti changes and louder the clunk and bigger the jerk)

KEEP THE DSC ON and youll be fine!

You don't have to lift either, just flick.

Hi Shimmy and others

I did know it had a clutch what i should have said was no clutch pedal, there hopes that's better.

First question is do I need to lift when changing then? (I assume it is advisable)
How do I select full Auto? (I only want to know this so I don't do it ) I also noticed only the S1-S5 button down by the gear selector and the DSC button on the wheel. Anything else I need to know?
Christ what am I doing, not only have I never driven one but I'm now buying one 500+ miles away and taking it to the ring on the way home! (probably in the snow)

There is no clutch pedel

I dont lift when changing gear but its ok to lift a little it makes for a smother change.

When you pull the gear lever to the right it selects auto if you pull it again it will be in Manual and if you flip any paddel it will also be in manual

The S1 - 5 It changes how fast the gear change is and if you put sport on
hold the ASC button till the traction is OFF S6 Beast Mode :hahaha:

you are way tooo worried

keep your foot in when changing gear, dont lift, just leave it as it is. ECU controls the throttle if it needs to anyway.

DSC is on the centre consol down low next to the SPORT button and tyre pressure set button. On the steering wheel you ahve the M Sport button which leaves 40% of the DSC on. Good for damp conditon on track. JUST LEAVE DSC ON.

Auot is selected by nudging the gear selector to the RIGHT and you dash indiscator will move from D to A (correct me guys as i can never remember what letters it uses). If you do the same again it will go back to manual. If you touch change gear manually it will come out of Auto anyway.

your most important thing is your throttle. just be gentle with that on or off and you'll be fine.

Dont worry mate, you will get hang of it within an hour,i wouldnt bother lifting the throttle, youll have enough to think about with everything else going on,the 1-6 settings makes it change gear faster or slower,i would just start of in S4,if you want to try auto just pull the gear stick towards you,if you want to go back into sport mode just use the paddles or gear stick and it will go straight into sport[manual].Enjoy yourself.;)

It's S and A as far as I can remember but I don't know what they stand for as they seem the wrong way around to me!? :bigcry:

When it's in manual it displays 'A' and when it's in Auto it displays 'S'!? :bigcry:
