View Full Version : Advice please, difference in rear wheels!?
I'm literally half way through a good bufty session, taking all the wheels off and cleaning inside and out and also cleaning arches etc :bigcry: :smokin:
I have just got to the offrside rear and took the wheel off, then noticed on the inside of the wheel there is a big lip running around the rim about an inch from the edge, now my query is none of the other wheels have it and the nearside rear doesn't have it so what the fook is up!?
I have noticed how much cleaner and immaculate the wheel has come up in comparison to the nearside but then thats fairly normal as it's not running next to the road gutter or verge all the time, but it is VERY clean and minty mint so I wondered if it's been replaced?
Please can anyone shed some light, check their's or even post pics up of what yours looks like please?
Incidentally when I checked what had been replaced under warranty with Andy at Murkett's the other day a rear wheel wasn't something that came up.
I'll add pics shortly when I'm done cleaning! lol :hahaha:
Thanks!

|Check the part numbers, iirc there were 2 versions, you may have one of each on.
An early and later one
Do they both have bbs stamped on back.

Looking at ur pics it looks like its probably your pics that make it look more pronounced.
Will report back in a bit, need to put some gloves on to feel up my wheels (they are dirty).

I've got a set of new and old CSL alloys and none of them have a ridge that deep on them - but I'll double check. As far as I know the newer alloy has a ridge around the valve.

Christ .. that's a lot of balance weight on that wheel !!! 60g outter and 15g inner!!! That's crazy ...
I have both versions - so I'll check mine tonight!
But from memory, yes one does have the ridge and the other just a line. Although from memory I don't think it was that pronounced.
Given the amount of balance weight on that wheel, I am guessing that it might be a replica? Or a really bad tyre!

I've seen wheels with more to be honest mate, my mate has done tyre fitting and wheel balancing for many years and sometimes it's just the way it goes, I had straight out of the box brand new wheels on cars in the past and even they didn't balance up without a lot of weight, I'm personally not worried and don't think it's that excessive as it felt fine at vey high speed and I don't get any vibrations
Now some people have put the part numbers up I'll have to whip the back wheels off next weekend again and check them against the wheels, see what's what! :banghead:
P.s. It doesn't want to be a fucking replica, I'll go up the fucking wall! :banghead:

My RC341 has the ridge his just seems to have a line in the paint that makes it look even deeper, so guess its just the pics that make it more pronounced.

There are Reps out now that have the outer stamps around the lugs, just not sure what exactly they say (dont know if they also have the inner stamps though).
Although from the spoke design I think you can still see they are reps.

Yeah it is a V shape, it's the camera and light casting a shadow that makes it looks like a full on groove which it isn't :)
This weekend is the next chance I'll get with some decent light to have a look so will have to wait till then but will have both rear wheels off again and check the part numbers as you've posted above  it'll even give me another chance to clean them again! :bigcry: :hahaha:

Okay went home last night and checked on me wheels ...
The newer spec wheels have the deep ridge and the older spec wheels have just a line (exactly like the photos you've posted)
So yours is normal. Somebody must have replaced one single rear wheel during the life of that car - no biggie
As for wheel weights - anyone that tells you that they can tell if a rear wheel drive car rear wheel is out of balance is lying ... there's no way you'd feel anything.
I drove on a BBS rear wheel that was buckled and out of balance like no tomorrow and I never noticed a thing ...
Thanks mate, appreciate it, if it is genuine then that's pleasing for a start, just wonder why it has been replaced...
Is it true they are part Magnesium? I did wonder if that's the case then perhaps one was place as it may have been badly cracked!
I have had a chat with my mate and am going to pop in and see him this week just as a matter of course and see if we can re-balance it, might be able to get some weight off it!
I agree about rear wheels though, you wouldn't feel a thing ;)

Magnesium is a myth IIRC
