Had a test drive in an E60 M5 last week...WOW what a car...but here's the thing....also drove an E39 M5 and I enjoyed it even more. Ok not as fast but not far off and felt a much better drivers car and so much more engaging.....It would seem progress doesn't always make things better. Don't get me wrong the E60 was stunning but the E39 didn't feel so clinical.
So here's a thought...E39, suspention upgrade, spacers, light weight wheels....wonder if the CSL wheels would fit an M5.....mmmmh I see a project coming on.

E39 is a GREAT machine  my second favourite M car and my choice M5 :thumbs:The E60 is an evolution so an improvement over the E39 (some say) but far too complicated, with too much computing power for my liking. I LOVE the honesty of a BIG PHAT V8 with a Manual transmission ... Simpools ... I :smt055 the 5 litre 400 bhp V8, the sound  and it's all round capabilities, but it's HEAVY, really HEAVY !!! and no, the CSL wheels won't fit (different hub size I think ) + if you think CSLs brakes are poor, the M5's are worst still, as they have to work much harder. GREAT car and I'd have one as a "Daily" if they did a Touring ( lost opportunity by BMW :banghead: ) but it'll never be a CSL, especially on track

I will never be a CSL of course but what could....but as a 4 door everyday machine, comfortable and fast and actualy felt smaller then it is through the bends it hits the spot...Plus with the money saved over an E60 getting breaks sorted will not be an issue...plus some othe tasty mods....didn't think the CSL wheels would fit....
Will also say that the interior is much nicer ...my wifes E60 Touring cabin does feel as well put to gether as the E39 and the materials used in the E39 seems better quality also. My wife had a E39 530 Sport which was a much better car then her latest one.

Agreed . My daily beeter is a '52 plate E39 525d Touring and the build quality of that is superb... better then any Mercedes of the same era. A lot of E60 just feel oppressive and drab inside, IMHO
