is the micro filter the thing that sits in the tray in front of the windscreen

my car is going in to Murketts tomorrow for some work doing, its not due a service but I am going to get an oil change done. In the service book it has a micro filter bit for ticking, if it is the bit I'm thinking I cant see the need to getting it changed until the inspection is due.

Sorry for the thick question but I don't want to look a fool asking at the service desk :clown:

Yes it is mate, IIRC. Think they're only £30 or something, and take about 25seconds to repair so be prepared to pay a million pounds for replacement!

Ive just put it in my nav for tomorrow and its more like 3hrs :bigcry:

I'm working in London and normally get the train so I decided to drop it off on route and leave it with them.

There a couple of issues that need addressing and they seem to have a good name for themselves. I took it to my local dealers last year and they noted a couple of things but said they weren't bad enough to sort e.g leaking (but only a little) power steering pipe, immisions light was also on, they re set it, I left the dealers and it came straight back on :banghead: so not that impressed. Its a long way from Leeds, I will see if its worth it.

Link now works, my god that was easy! How much do BMW rape, sorry I mean charge to do that alone!? :bigcry: :banghead:

You do have a long drive, are Murkett's also a main dealer then mate? I'd be interested to see if they are that good and worth the trip as there are NO main dealers around my area that I would trust with the CSL :( :(

If I'm going to take out the warranty then this could be a problem as I only trust an Indy 45 mins up the road in Southampton!

It's piss easy to change - and personally I think the micro filter's a bit of a scam to get more money out of owners!! haha ... I've pulled mine out numerous times after long drives and it's always crystal clean - may be it's a NZ thing haha ...

Might be then! Have you watched the video posted above? There is a right load of crap stuck to the underside of that one they pull out of that M3! :bigcry:

Yep just watched the video - have a friend out here that lives out in the country and he's never pulled his one out - I pulled it out for him last month and it was still clean (after 2X,XXXkm). Heck his airfilter was way more filthy than the micro filter! Go figure.

In that video they could have simply slid the lid off rather than pry it up.

Could that be that's because the one coming it is optional "Carbon filter" as the guy in the vid calls it, so it filters out more shit?

Dropped the car off today and was gob smacked, the guy behind the service desk knew what I was talking about when I went through my problems. None of the normal shit, these cars are bullet proof but we will have a look....
It was, yes we have had that before and that is a common fault, we will sort that. With one fault he said they could look at altering a setting to see if it worked and if not I could get it back to them. I said I couldn't risk that as I didn't want the fault to re occur on my driver training day at Spa and the ring :hahaha: to which I was told, don't worry we will strip it down and change the parts if it does look iffy rather than just adjusting. If the techs carry out what the front desk started it will be a trip I will be making in the future

They mentioned a CSL in the back with a cage, I said I thought it was Duncans  sorry Duncan I didnt actually see it

Sounds good mate, the more I hear about them the more I'm thinking of making the journey when my next service is due, might stay up there as well if they've got a courtesy car as mine is due an Inspection II next so I think they'll need it overnight?

s.mac
03-02-2010, 09:40 PM
They do courtesy cars, its a busy dealership by the look of it. I left it with them and in no rush to pick it up, I will just jump on a train to pick it up :)

Dan
03-02-2010, 09:52 PM
I'd like to drop it up there one day, leave it overnight so they can do the Inspection II then collect it next day, it's too long a drive from Dorset to Cambridgeshire to do it there and back twice! lol

Anyone know Murkett's price for Inspection II?

TMAQ
03-02-2010, 09:59 PM
should be about £750...

they would need it overnight i think for checking/adjusting the valve clearance. it's worth going a bit further to a recommended dealer. i took mine to sytner chigwell for a spec II and it had a spec I at murketts, i wouldn't take it anywhere else now, its a bit of a treck from from purley in surrey but worth it

I thought it was good when the guy at the service desk, who I think is called Alan, said with one problem, do you know if it has had this problem before, I said I didn't know, to which he said he would find out the full history of warranty work and let me know. I've called the £1 per minute line to check all the history, then written to all the dealers who have carried the services out and still not been able to find out, until now, what has been done :)

Lets see if it all pans out as well as it has started ;)

I will let you know :)

Anyone know Murkett's price for Inspection II?Im thinking of doing the same Dan,and getting some warranty work done there,i dont think my dealer down here knows much about CSLs,ive had a chat with them a couple of times,i know more about the CSL than them, and the senior techy has just left and started on his own.Its a hell of a drive for me,but i dont mind that,Murketts do have a very good name with CSL owners.I have had good reports about Cotswold Cheltenham aswell,i had an insp2 done there once, and there were 2 CSLs in there then.;)

Matt any idea on Murkett's Insp. II price please matey? :)

So what faults or probs has yours got mate?

alternator on / off /on /off (I must have risked this for 6 months)
emission sensors permanently on, the wires can rub and wear through
clutch, not the slur, just slips at speed, up and down shifts, they will strip to see if it is worn, if it is (or close to) they will change
rear suspension problem (not a spring)
exhaust baffles loose when cold, I'm not convinced they are loose although people have mentioned it to me when they hear it from the outside. They will change exhaust if they think they are
Power steering pipe, minor seeping, they are going to change.
They are going to give the rest of the car the once over.

and an oil change whilst its in :)

they aren't the cheapest, see if you can get them to price match.

You can also supply your own oil (I got it from Oipeman) which BMW charge a bit for. I would also change your own induction air filter and micro filter and ask them to take them off the list ;) they are really easy to do

Reveal all then! You sorted that nice dent in the rear quarter panel yet? SSHHHHHHH !! yes and its mint, along with the front bumper ;)

Andy called me and rattled off a list that I cant remember

front ball joint, drive belts ?, play in steering rack, I think or some part of the steering set up, cracked front grill, the poly bushes that are fitted are making the rear end suspension knocking noise so they will go back to standard, I wasn't sure with that one but went with Andy's recommendation and some of the arms need changing. Exhaust bracket. I think thats it.
Before you say I should know exactly whats up, it was a shit line and he said he would call me back tomorrow to update me on progress :)
