View Full Version : What level is your BMW Insured Warranty & Excess?
As above, I'm looking at getting it sorted and today spoke with BMW to get a quote, must say I'm quite pleased as to how nice they were to speak to and how easy it was to get a quote
Can you vote on the options above and quote which Excess you have, just interested to see people's opinions of what needs covering, I have an incling (sp) as to which one I'm going to go for but just want to see ;)
Thanks

Pay mine monthly. £77 and £100 excess for each visit. Starting to wonder what's the point, I only drive it 2.5k miles a year and it hasn't needed to go in yet. Think I've got clutch slip but will give it a good ragging first to see if it goes before sending it in.

I have Comprehensive , buggered if I know why as most of the car is in bits in the Fatherland, or in a box in my workshop ! However, my recent head gasket was covered, and quotes to repair it ranged from £2,500 down to £600, with BMW in the mid range at £1,300. My premium is £87 per month incl. the Tax, so that x 12 months = £1,044 means im in pocket !:supz: Policy excess is £0.
It includes Emergency Service, so im covered twice there as I also have ADAC cover. :banghead:
Extract from the terms and conditions. "The BMW Warranty will not cover - an insured vehicle used for courier or private hire services, track days, off road use, competitions or racing of any kind."
I got around this ... I Tippexed it out !
Makes you wonder why BMW have an M Sport department !

My BMW Insured Warranty was kindly paid for by the previous owner (THANX Jeff  )... Named Components with £250 excess due to my CSL being over 60 000 at the time of renewal. It excludes the Emergency Service but that's OK as I have a Pan European RAC brake down cover as well as ADAC+ Pan European cover (although that's mainly for FREE Nurburgring recovery.) The renewal premium is going to be £1188 when this runs out in Sep. 2010, up from £951 for a Comprehensive, £0 excess cover it had the year before.

Where is the option for none?;)
I have the oil changed twice as often as necessary. The car is low mileage (31k) and full bmw service history. Been using the same dealer for 5 years and any problems we have had out of warranty e.g. a leak on the diff (driveshaft) was done on goodwill. That was on inspection 1.
Have had no problems in 27,000 miles. My husbands motorbike (2007 GS1200 adventure) is the same, full service history, problem with the ECU - would have been £1000+ but got it on goodwill.
BMW seem to warrant their products out of warranty as long as they are low mileage and have full main dealer BMWSH. As far as I know, as long as you have FBMWSH you can buy the insurance policy for it.

Fully comp £0 excess. A big expense for a low mileage car sitting in the garage. I frightened to cancel it in case a spark her up and she blows a gasket:bigcry: So the £0 excess warranty will stay just in case!

Sorry I didn't think to put one up for none! lol
My car has had a Xenon Control unit (I think, that might have been my old M3 :bigcry:) but it did have a Diff replaced at 30k miles (11k ago now) I don't know whether or not that would have been done under warranty!?
When you say 'goodwill' is that free or you give them a 'drink' towards it?

Probably ... but I might find out first how much the "Driveline" only cover is going to be, as at the end of the day, these are the most important and expansive components to fix, when they go wrong.
Since buying my CSL the only thing so far that needed fixing was the Alternator @ around £600 fitted, which was covered under warranty

I gave the M guy a drink when he fitted my exhaust but for anything else, which hasn't been much, BMW did it for free as we have the back up of fsbmwh. Also low mileage. The car hasn't missed a beat and is the most reliable car I have owned - hope I haven't jinxed things now lol !

I have Comprehensive + European Assistance with £100 excess.
I had no claims during my first year of ownership, and around £700 worth of claims so far in this second year. I have also driven to Europe many times over those two years so European breakdown cover is a must for me.
Previous to my ownership the car had around £20k of warranty work completed since new! I think the previous owner had a 'mate' in BMW and had many things done that probably did not warrant being done ordinarily...
Still undecided whether to renew later this year or not as the car will be at the dreaded 60k miles mark :banghead:

Rob, I was reading up on the European Emergency service last night and in their terms & conditions it says about not being involved with Track Days etc, how do you get on at the ring or do you also have seperate cover elsewhere (RAC or ADAC etc)?

No warranty for 3 years
first two I had a new clutch, flywheel and gearbox on BMW goodwill. I paid 50% of labour but got a 2 year warranty with the work.
More recently had the headgasket go but Simpsons did that as the car was there already.
If I would have had a warranty I would be slightly better off I think. I might look at the 60k mile plus warranty but I am not sure of the details.

Go to the BMW website and you can navigate to the warranty section somewhere. Might be under BMW Owners I think. You can call them or just do it online.

The BMW warranty is a must in my opinion, over the last 2 years in my stock M3,i had a new alternator, new rear spings, new front calipers, new front discs[twice],new brake hose, new thermostat, new drive logic button for the smg,one of the xenon lights fixed, seat runner fixed, wish bone and lower ball joint, all done under warranty the car was on 20k-50k miles in this time.;)
Bloody hell mate!
I only had my old M3 about 10 months but in that time I replaced pads & wear sensor (Consumables), Starter Motor, NSF Wishbone & NSF Suspension eye, I thought quite a lot for the time I owned it!?

Collected mine from Murketts yesterday, cheers to Andy, top bloke. New head gasket cost me £41, as I had him do the SMG update whilst it was there, mine had the oldest one on !
Had some fun bedding the brakes in down the A1 !:hahaha:
Bumped into Spokey while i was there too.
Highly recommend Murketts if they are close to you, but probably even worth the long drive depending upon the ...uh ... upgrades to your car
I'll be using Murketts I think Dunc as per s.mac's thread :)
Still undecided on level of warranty, I'm debating where or not fuel injectors, suspension, air con system, on board computer, parking sensors, dashboard displays etc etc really need covering?

Yes, yes, yes, yes, maybe and yes  ... For the first year at least get a Comprehensive cover with £250 excess while U get to know your car and any hidden problems, that might crop up. Also, check with Andy (by giving him your CSLs chassis number ) what warranty work it's had already, in the last few years. If, like me U have 14 pages of warranty work which includes BIG stuff like Double Vanos total overhaul and NEW clutch & duel mass flywheel done within the last 12 months, the "Named components" coverage may be the better option as at the end of the day that still covers a lot of IMPORTANT stuff on the CSL + there is always Good will + Andy will do all he can to help a CSL owner out ;)

Crikey!! Some of you have had so many repairs done under warranty to your cars. Is it because they are used on track which wears out these parts ? Or is it the rumour I heard that the earlier built csl's were the "good" ones?
All mine has had is:
1. A new clutch under warranty. Had the "usual" slur and as lots of owners were getting a new clutch thought I had better get one before the warranty ran out.
2. Cracked rear spring (again done when I had warrranty).
3. Leaky diff which happened when it had come out of warranty but was done on goodwill.
4. A new steering wheel - thought I would jump on the bandwagon as everyone seemed to be getting new ones under warranty.
