All 3 of my CSLs were private sales you get a better deal and a better car
In my opinion
You need the cash to buy private and all the 3 cars i bought were on finance
so i paid the finance company the £ and what ever was left to the seller

Originally looked at one in a independent dealers in Coxheath. It was his son's who had bought it, but was a banker in the USA and wasn't using it. I am sure it had a different colour interior though, very strange. And the seat mounts were different. Like in this picture:
http://a332.g.akamai.net/f/332/936/12h/www.edmunds.com/media/news/concept.car/bmw.m3.csl/bmw.m3scl.int.500.jpg
We didn't have the money to buy it then as it was £58k. We bought ours with 3,500k in June 04 for £45k from Ruxley BMW. Got £3k off the asking price of £48k.
Originally had a deposit on a new V8 S4 but when we saw the csl had come down to our price bracket, Audi can stuff their £1k deposit. The depreciation on the S4 is large in comparison to the csl.

Private, cash purchase form Jeff who is/was on this list ... found the Ad on "Pistonheads & then here, which in turn lead me to sign up to this Forum.
Other trader, I think I saw it on Autotrader which led me to their site, rang them and paid cash over the phone so bought it blind really!

Tracked mine down through couple of guys on Puregt.com .....
I bought mine from KEEEF aka Sambaman (he was the guy that had the stunning 993 GT2 in Audi Blue - was in Evo about 12 months ago) - Porsche nut who frequents PGT and PH. Prior to that, owned by Wallachie - also another poster on PGT...
Both top blokes, gave me loads of info on the car before purchase and real enthusiasts so I was comfortable that it was likely going to get a good example.
47K miles at purchase in Jun 2009, £25K paid.

Broadoak Ashford, BMW Main dealer. I got it for a steal, I thought anyway. Nearly 4 years ago (so 2 year old), £35.5K with only 17k miles on her.

as you know the price for a CSL in france is almost 50% more than in england. many reasons but it's a fact. So i looked everywhere to find the good one with fiew kilometers and a clear historic for a good prize, i took 2 times planes to see in deutschland 2 CSL wich was not as good as they seems on mobile.de a good site for find a car.
i started to be disappointed and finally i found mine CSL just 20 kms from my home. when i saw it just when the guy opened his box i knew it will be mine...splendid!
Kkilling detail, if it is a deutsch origin CSL, it's first owner was "marko martin" the driver rallyman...it can't be a bad car isn'it!:supz:

Sytner Sheffield, nearly bought from an independent garage (FA Ropers)but decided to go with the warranty. The one at FA Ropers was a very good car though, it was touch and go. I wonder if anyone on here bought it

Given the fact that we only had 10 it was a mission to track one down (a good one for that matter). I looked at 4 cars (that's 40% of all the CSLs in NZ haha) before I settled on this one - cleanest interior (like new, actual really like new at 11,000km) cleanest undercarriage and that was it. The actual process to buy it took about 3 weeks though as my sales guy at the time was having a bit of a family crisis and didn't bother to work the miles to make the deal happen (the manager ended up taking over the deal from him and got me to sign on the dotted line - this was after 5 phone calls to him telling him that I want the car, get the documents ready for me). Thank goodness I was persistent!:supz:

Main dealer, but that pretty much the only option when I got mine!
I looked on PH for the cheapest CSL , did not have to be mint because i was looking for a new track car .
I found a nice black one in london , very good price , BMW warrenty second owner .
Car had a few litlle dents , 4 wheels curbed ... so perfect  .
With the the good exchange rate last year the car was a bargain .
Mailed the owner , asked alot of pictures of the car .
Then i asked an odd question :... if u bring the car to belgium and the car is as described i'll buy it ..... so he did  .
Paid him an advance for his traveling cost.... on a sunday morning there was a black UK CSL in front of my house... inspected the car did a smal test drive and paid the car .
Dropped off the old owner at the eurostar in brussel .
That is my CSL storry and a year later i'm still very happy with the car :smt055

Spotted mine on Pistonheads in April 08 and bought it private sale for £32k with 36k miles on the clock. Although the mileage was a little higher than most others i looked at, i bought this one as its condition was absolutely perfect and it had lots of warranty freeby work which had already been done to it!

Forgot to say mine was £33k in Sept 2006 with 16k on the clock.
Funny thing is a car with the same mileage probably would be no different now!

Yep, I agree Shimmy. You would still that kind of money if the condition was good.
My car was via a chap called Chris based in South London.
He was one of those people that you could tell by the way the paperwork was presented, the car would be mint (still has the tyre warning stickers in the window).
Also, he took a 3K hit and booked it in for the oil service which was very good of him - especially as his phone didn't stop ringing. So 28K for a 25K mile car

Hi bought mine private sale off pistonheads august 09 with 51k on the clock wanted a black one drove to Essex in my evo put down deposit. The week after went down on the train drove it back got the right one still love it.
mine came from a main dealer in Nov 2007, had 38k on it. the PX was just to good to refuse, which essentially meant my CSL cost me 26k which i paid in cash. i was also looking at a 14k car that was up at £38k and 16k at £37k both private sales.
i'm hoping that i would get somewhere in the region of 23-24k for it now, however the other two cars with 20k miles added would have lost 10k perhaps? therefore i think i made a wise buy. plus i've used it every day and not worried about milage.

Bought mine from a BMW main dealer with 12k miles.
I went with DonkCSL to lift his in Yorkshire & within a few miles said “I’ve got to have one of these”
In circumstances like this I’m one for rash decisions but 3-4 weeks later I was starting to lose heart that a well looked after example wasn’t going to appear as quick as I’d like.
I looked everywhere I could think of, became second nature to look up Piston Heads etc (back then cslreg was in its early days).
Then one Sunday morning in autopilot mode looked up BMW’s used car web site & saw this low mileage car, I was like were did that come from it wasn’t there yesterday.
So first thing Monday morning rang the dealer,
Me - “I’m ringing about the CSL”
Dealer - “what CSL”
Me - “the one on your web site”
Dealer - “we have no CSL’s & if there was I would know about it I’m the sales manager”
5 minutes later I get a call back,
Dealer - “there is one, its in the valeting bag, came in late Friday afternoon, bad news though, somebody is on their way down from Aberdeen to look at it & there is someone on the phone with my colleague from N. Ireland as we speak”
Me - “here is £1000 deposit & send yer man back home to Aberdeen”
The next morning Donk & I went over to have a look at the car & was very pleased with what I saw, literally couldn’t find a fault & was the best car buying experience I’ve had previously & since, very relaxed BMW dealership not your usual marbles in your mouth kiss your ass garage.
The chap came out greeted us put trade plates on the car, started to give Donk directions & I was thinking what’s he doing that for surely he’ll be coming with us, then disappeared. We had a look round the car, looked at one another & said flip they’re very trusting here, got into the car, started it, still no sign of the sales guy, after a few minutes I spotted him in the showroom so said “we’ll head towards the gate & if he doesn’t make a run for it we’ll keep going”. I stopped at the gate looked in the rear view mirror & he was just standing watching us so we kept going. Unbelievable BMW dealers here would be reluctant to let you sit in a car in the showroom never mind an unaccompanied test drive.
On the test drive we found some decent roads & on the return to the dealership expected the chap to come out a little discontent as we’d been away for a while, but no, smile on his face “well guys how was that” we shook hands “I’ll have that”.
3 years coming this summer I’m still extremely happy with my purchase that day, I’ve had an itch to change but never felt the need to scratch it & if I do it certainly wouldn’t be an E92 M3 & probably won’t be a GTS either as they’re GT3 money, quite the car boys!

Similar story here! Found a car in sept 06, it had only 4k on it, original cup on it and full service history, put a deposit over the phone and booked a flight to come and pick it up!
Still driving it now... longest I have ever had a car for!!
