yep, its a querk of their calendar = if you go to the bike days its not there and its OPL which bikes rarely do
whe you go to book it asks you what car youve got - youd have to write in (like me) a knackered one

Just a reminder that Matt of Tracktoys still has some pace for Wednesday so if anybody wants to get real time feedback on geo/tyres etc then give him a bell or see him on the day.
Youll probably save 5 times as much over the year on tyre wear.
Ive got my VBox Lite wired in now so if anybody wants to try out the old Performance Box for a session ill bring it along.

stayed with Mole and Azrael at the hotel on the Tuesday with some friends and had a few jars
Snett was great weather and good company.
Saw quite a bit of Flatout and Baris (xKaLiBer) on track and a little bit of Mole, MattCSLnut, Azrael, Simon Clark and Alex. I seemed to have a passeneger in my car every session up until 4pm but it was fun and managed to nail a couple of corner by home time thanks to some great tuition by Mike Wildes and some fantastic support with the geo and tyres by Matt from tracktoys - you wont beleive what we found out with the tyre pressure.

As has been said already, great to put some faces to names at last. Few beers the night before with azrael, shimmy and the others was good, saved a very early morning drive up to Snett on an already tiring day.
Snetterton is a nice circuit – very fast with some quite tricky bends. Was my first time out on track for a few years but thoroughly enjoyed it! Decided I need APs if I’m going to be tracking more – was struggling after a few laps with my standard brakes.
Managed to get a few snaps of some of you:

Great day yesterday and nice to meet a few of you guys.
Shim, your improvements have definately worked. Car looked very quick.
Russells is definately more grippy and I found Coram smoother. Car seemed more settled.
Be interested to learn you findings re: tyre pressure Shim. Never really played with them other than making sure of the usual 32ish psi and the management of that.
Looking forward to Ring/Spa in May now chaps.

Probably my mistake! I thought it was 3wheels3 as I heard he was coming over for the day. I was thinking on the way home and realised it of course wasn't. Doh!

I did Snett two years ago and really enjoyed it - didn't dissappoint this time round despite a small detour:whistle: - All is fine though, car is booked in for a full circle once over next week as the geometry is somewhat out now.
Did anyone come across the blue seat on track:smt117,

ive just got the back box - 102db (almost 6000rpm)
Bedford was 98.8dB, but they only make you go to 5000rpm as they know its the driveby that matters more

I did get to Snet very early, so the exhaust got a bit cold for the sound test. Did you do yours as soon as you arrived?
So I should be ok for bedford? I want to book other trackdays, but scared of getting turned away. :(

From experience of others with SS full system the only one they have been chucked off is Bedford. One guy did 6 days there and chucked off on two of them.
I think youll find youll pass static ok at Bedford but always a chance of failing driveby. I did Bedford one Monday and was nervous of the noise but managed to stay on all day no probs.
Probabaly works on low pressure overcast days whereas Monday was clear and bright

Mine was 99db @6000rpm but still quite hot from the drive over. SS silenced centre section and SS race lightweight rear box, std cats.

The Focused events days are a bit busy didnt you think?
no busier than most others as they nearly all stick to the same track limits numbers BUT there were some awfully slow cars there :banghead:
i tend to stick to low laps in the morning and have some fun these days and keep the faster ones when it clears up in the afternoon so no worries - cant do 100-150 laps a day like i used to!

I managed finally to get the time to wrap this stuff up.
Below is my data comparison between this years best lap of 1m 19.5s and my previous best in very similar conditions of 1m 21.7s.
You can see the improvements AND the areas where i have not done as well possibly meaning there should be some more to gain pretty quickly. Mike's tuition was getting me to brake earlier before the corners than i am used to to give me the stability and confidence to push through the corners much earlier and therefore get a faster speed in the corner and on the following straight. At the end of the day i was then tasked with trying to get the braking point back towards where i previously had it without compromising the speed in the corner. didnt quite get to that point (see orange circles) as you can see but still very pleased with the days work.
http://i401.photobucket.com/albums/pp97/shimmylasco/CSL/Data/bestlapcomparison280410.jpg
The below i have a clip of my 3 lap last session of the day, by far the clearest on track and Mike had shot off so i had time to try to string together the laps using my new found 'skidding' :D
I managed 3 fastest laps in a row, all below my previous best times - possibly as i was being chased by johnny finfast in his GTR for the last 2 laps (check out the rear view mirror - only) and photographed by angus in his pink shirt jus before the bridge.
Then the last clip at the end of the vid is Mike Wilds early in the day taking my car for a workout:hand

The VBox Lite with 2 cameras is a downgraded version of the VBox for a fraction of the cost. It has the capacity to run one CAN line as it stands but does need the CAN cable attached to the ECU for this.
At Snett the CAN cable hadn't been installed but last Saturday Nathan at RaceDataSystems.co.uk arranged for this to be done at their workshop in 2 hours. Tested and software scenes updated so now I can run one CAN channel of my choice like wheel speeds, throttle positions, rpms, brake trigger etc. If I want more channels you have to buy a small upgrade od the firmware to run 4 channels.
I'll do a trial next week and post up the results.

With the 4 CAN channel upgrade (just a firmware update so can be emailed to you Shim) you'd get steering angle, throttle position RPM and one other channel from those available, would make for very detailed driving analysis and some excellent videos :D
Karbon - PM me for discounts ;)
You're getting proper fast now Shim, miles quicker than me, get yer license and come testing in my motor so I can see the difference in the logs

The best bit about the vBox is the data comparison software Circuit Tools and the video to video comparison you can run.
It's a great bit of kit and I bet the cost against seconds hand value later when you sell would be very close.

You know who to call Mr Flatout ;)
Just getting a quicker lap in the same car and graphing the time delta between your best and that will instantly show you where you are gaining and losing time, then you can look more closely at those bits et voila - you are quicker than Schumacher ;)

Ivsat my brother down at Bedford at lunchtime and showed him his data and my data and proved pretty quickly that not only was he going slower on the straights (which in his Caterham Academy car you could understand) but also that he was going slower in the corners.
I showed him his corner lines and speed and he saw straight the way what I had been telling him all morning.
He picked up 6secs in the afternoon just by convincing him he could get better lines and drive faster round corners.

I've only been to Snetteron once (the last race of the CSL Cup) but I always feel I'm slowing too much for the bomb hole - but both you and Mike seem to be doing the same (overlay my video if you can to prove if I'm right or wrong). Any comments, or are all 3 of us just driving gods and you can't get any better? :hahaha:

just did the overlay and quite interesting Steve. Send me your .dbn files if you can (dare!) and ill do a comparison (private ;)) of some
of the corners.
looksing at the raw data i think Riches you take a tight line which if nothing is behind, is not necessary as the entry is wide left and second apex but otherwise they look similar (but you are faster)
i need some slicks!

I don't have any data logging from last year Shim but hopefully will this year. Go ahead and compare them, I have the gearbox broken issues to blame for any shortcomings :hahaha:

I gave up trying to get it to work last year. It was neatly plugged in (wired permanently) but I could never get it working. And at Hockenheim it was the same, but I've paid £20 for lifetime support now so I'll download the latest firmware and try again this weekend. Fingers crossed!
p.s. does anyone take bombhole flat? My best time was 1.17 something (and on slicks, so Shimmy is faster/close enough bearing in mind his 1.19 was on Cups) but the front guys were doing 1.14s, and they were noticeably quicker through the bombhole than me :bigcry:
_Nathan_

Pretty sure it could be flat in my car but was having a lift as I'm a gayer. Only running 320bhp and car weighed 1340kg so my flat is't quite as good as your flat ;)
Best was a 17.5 - our data shows Shimmy is a full 10mph quicker down the back straight due to our lack of power and I guess wing induced drag.
shimmy
05-05-2010, 01:04 PM
With downforce and slicks I guess it could be flat but with mine you need to steady the car and touch the brakes to get front end to grip before turning in. With slicks/splitter your front end might be grippy enough already.
To compare coram and riches would be most interesting as I think with slicks and downforce your corner speed should be 10-15 mph quicker than me but it doesn't look that much on the video.
Will be an interesting weekend at snett and I bet youlll do well steve, I'm cheering for you !
But as Mike Wilds kept telling me, "stop jiggling the steering wheel"

Hopefully I'll have some data this weekend to compare. My car last year had slicks but no extra downforce, just the same as your car. It was only after the last race I looked back and realised I was the only car on the grid with a bolt in cage :hahaha:
Jiggling is cool, makes you look like a hero :hahaha:

From what I can remember, having had a fair bit of lager since the last round of the CSL Cup  , it's a ballsy corner the bombhole, I was lifting slightly as well, and like steve was my first time round.
Car had no downforce, running slicks , 120k miles old M3 fully striped out, carbon roof etc, but running std engine and normal glass etc etc.. my time in std class was in low 1.19's all weekend.
So shim thats a good time in a CSL, and on cups, as Stevo says nick foster and thorney were the quickest that race running all the toys, with downforce were in the low 1.14's.
And deffo need to dab the brakes to settle the car a little and make the nose dive on entry to it ..
Good luck steve mate, hope you have a cracking weekend, I might make it up myself and have a supporting season as im now retired :hahaha:
And as it's going be the only chance to post up race pics this season :-(
Here is a cheeky shot of me having some lift just after the bombhole, with the gill in hot pursuit !!

That would be great, we're staying at the same hotel as last year
At least now you can say, "that would never have happened in my day" :hahaha:
My recollection of my own driving was that the lift was far too long, so although I'd like to pretend it was a quick lift it probably went on for about 3 seconds :hahaha:
I must try harder. Will try and improve this weekend
