Hi,

Found these pics of the GTR ALMS cars
that are run by Rahal/Letterman.

Thats some Air Intake.

Semi Space Frame front end.

I see that BMW are trying to enter similar
spec Cars at Le Mans this year.

Expect a Porsche protest then.

Regards,

The Gorilla.

Hardly bare any technical resemblance to the road car???

Amazing none the less, pushing the boundries of what Club Leman officials/scrutineers will allow?!

Would love to see them sticking it to the Porsche at Lemans...in international racing Porsche seem to have lost their way some what in the few last years??

PP.

i know the engine and other bits are all moved down and back but interestingly no strutt brace!

..also all the suspension front pick-ups resemble more of a double wishbone set-up??

Seems to suffer in the ALMS mainly because its the only contender based on saloon car volume? Tuff up against lower smaller sports car platforms?

Ace!

The cage will probably take most of the stress

The air intakes for the engine are actually the two trumpets inside the larger ducts. Regulation restrictors. The larger ducts will be for cooling. Hope it races at Le Mans. Don't see any reason why it shouldn't. Still obviously based off an M3 and no more tricked up than a GT3-RSR.

Its the space frame construction which is causing the FIA issues as thats a complete no no and Porsche know it, its not just the front, the rear has a trans axle gearbox so the rear is completely different, its in another league to the E46 GTR for example.

We dont run a strut brace in our car either, dont need to:

Hi,

If I remember correctly the 'Restrictors'
are 38mm Diam for each bank.

Without the Restrictors its about another
40/50 BHP etc.

The 2001 E46 GTR/ALMS Cars were about
440/450 BHP with the Restrictors and about
480/500 BHP without.

Hence why the E46 GTR was quicker in
European events, Ring/Spa 24 etc.

Interestingly the 2001/GTR Engines based on the
Mecachrom/S62 Block made slightly more
torque, which is something the S65 seems
light on, even when stroked or F/I.

Hi,

BMW from the E90 with the Multi link
rear, which Merc had back in 1982/3,
allows for many more Tricks at the
rear axle, like Transaxles, pushrods etc
without compromising the overall
handling and ride dynamics.

Its how the rule book views it, though.

Rear Trailing arms have always hindered
this type of set up.

Even BMW in the 91/92 DTM Days were
using Monocouque 'arms' at the rear
in an attempt to reduce sprung/ un-sprung
mass etc.
