All,

The yellow engine warning light has come on on my CSL, did it a week ago, but i've been away. The car went into BMW Battersea this morning and they've phoned to say that it needs new catalytic converters

The car is fitted with the 100cell Supersprint Cats, which i assume could have caused this? Don't want them to re-fit OEM stuff, but if it's throwing up a warning light, not sure what i can do.

Any thoughts?

Johnny

I asked the same question only a month ago as my SG CSL is fitted with the same SuperSprint 100 cell cats and the same "Engine emission" light came ON
. Apparently the 100 cell cats work far too efficiently and trip the light. Some said the light will go out over night, other said it may need to be cleared. My light took a few days to extinguish all by itself, then it came back on and out again just prior to my Track day @ Brands Hatch. I expected it to come back on during the Track Day but it's stayed off and been off ever since (26th November) Worry not, they just seem to do that

I find the harder you drive the car, the less likely the light is to come on. Told you it would come back on;)

Apparently it could now be;

The cats
The Vanos unit
some solenoids close to the Vanos...

We shall see. They're trying the solenoids first.

The guy who has worked on the car previously, Matt Grigg at Battersea, who i believe it well thought of.

I too was very worried when this happened with my SG CSL. This Forum saved me lots of unnecessary worries and unwarranted expenditure. Lets hope this doesn't spiral out of control, only to end up being the original issue of 100 cell cats being over efficient

Matt is aware of the 100 Cell Cats, but believes there's something else throwing up the error. The car's under comprehensive warranty, so i'm not concerned at all really.

Good to have a Comprehensive BMW Warranty . I believe Matt has worked on my CSL when it was owned by "Rags" and "Jeff" both on here, as I have invoices with my CSL for a Brand New Venos system replacement (among other stuff) , done under Warranty with an interesting comment on it, saying " unususal/excessive noises coming from the engine ". I was under the impression that E46 M3 didn't suffer from the dreaded Vanos issues of the E36 Evo so I was surprised to see my CSL had it replaced. It seems this is not an isolated event as I've heard of more then a few E46 M3 having this problem and Andy Pressland form Murketts confirmed this too, having had a few CSLs in, for this job.
BMW Warranty coming to it's own again  and I should be renewing mine when it runs out in Sep. 2010
Best of luck with your CSL  and keep us posted with the outcome

The solenoid's have been changed and the light has gone out. Took the car out for 150 miles today and no repeat of the problem, *fingers crossed*.

New tyres going on on Tuesday so will have to take it for another blast...
