I've just got my AP brakes back from the longest recon ever ! they could do with another coat of paint now they are clean

Has anyone had there's re painted and if so any recommendations where I can send them, with an approximate cost for all 4 ?

Thanks

After the same thing, mine are turning silver, bit reluctant to DIY it. Thorney can repaint but not sure of the cost.

Thank you for your enquiry,

Unfortunately Re-Painting is something we do not cover, most customers just use caliper paint that you can buy from Halfords of some car accessory place.

There is a place in Birmingham that does calipers.

Will try and dig out the number when I get back tonight.

Best

Hi Steve, we can spray paint them with normal car paint, but for high temperatues it would be best to brush paint with proper caliper laquer. (Depends on the car, usage (track days etc?)
We would then airbrush the AP racing. If you go the spray paint route the choice of colours is limitless. For the brush on caliper paint its limited to blue, yellow, red and black. Price will be about the same, prep time is the same, brushing on is quicker but the paint is very expensive (about £60 for a small tin and we may need 2 tins. Spraying option takes longer and requires baking in the oven. So either way you are looking at about £280 plus VAT for either option. Pic of the Diablo calipers we painted recently is attached. These were brushed painted and the logo airbrushed on in a Nissan anthracite colour. Kind regards, Mike

I'm going to have a go myself, I've filled the yellow AP writing with plastercine and used a craft blade to get the excess off, I'll paint the rest Black again or Silver, not sure yet.

If it all goes wrong I'll send them down to be done properly in the New Year ......

it's Steve mate :)

These brakes have been a nightmare since July . I bought them 2nd hand off pistonheads, the guy was also on M3 cutters so I thought the description would be a fare account as forum guys are normally down the line and pretty straight. The PF disks and AP bells that were with the kit were totally f__cked and needed replacing (attempted group buy). I sent the callipers to AP and 2 others who wouldn't service them, they said they were beyond repair. I managed to get a guy in motor racing to service them who has done a great job. I didn't even notice the paint when I got them due to the brake dust build up. These things have cost me a fortune :banghead: and and the best thing is Ive got a good BBK, but thought I would have a go at the AP kit :banghead:
The guy said he would help with the cost but he seems to have vanished for now, I can wait ;)
The pic is off the rear the fronts are worse and the Yellow R has dropped of the racing bit on one of the callipers, thses brakes were abused without the servicing they need.
I know they are OK now and its only the paint that needs sorting... but what a f__cking nightmare, not to mention the £££
Thanks ____ from Aberdeen

Hi fella

I used bigred.co.uk to re-con the calipers on my three door and they done a fab job.

What they give you is an option of caliper finishes, the best being the dark grey teflon coating, which is baked on & looks great.

Maybe worth giving them a call:thumbs:

Hi S.Mac

I left a message with the company in Birmingham. They have shutdown for Christmas so am not expecting to hear anything till the first week in January.

From reading the other posts though, £280 is ball park though for a proper job. ie. having them baked afterwards.

Best

Update on the painting

So I put the plastercine in place on sad looking callipers
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y107/duds001/007.jpg
only for my mate to say if we left it to dry then removed the plastercine the paint may lift in the local area, which would not be good.
Plan b
take an etch and get some reverse decals made up

Whilst they were getting done, paint the callipers, not very good pics and the paint is a lot better than it looks in the pics :birdman:

Hey up

I've not used this but have used other products from this supplier.

http://www.frost.co.uk/automotive-paint/vht-brake-caliper-drum-rotor-paint-aerosol.html?gclid=CM_4ypaC6qoCFQkf4QodZEjjNQ

I need to do mine soon and was thinking of using this, when I get round to it, I'll let you know how they turn out.

Cheers

Hello all,

I have a strong dislike for my bright red APs and fancy something a bit more subtle, what was the consensus here on repainting them? Did any of you do a DIY?
