Hi,just took the car out for 10 minutes, and after 5 minutes or saw a yellow light came on in the right corner of the dash with a (!) mark in it....
When i got back home and turned the car off,i then restarted it, and it had gone ?
I have had the car on charge over night as the battery was flat, just thought i would say incase this is something to do with it.....
hi steve, was it a ! in a orange (yellowish) cog
or a yellow ! in a circle within brackets ?
I presume the lights are the same as those in a normal M3? I'm sure the Handbook tells you them all anyway doesn't it? Could be worth a look? :)

Seachable pdf for the more common variety of m3. Sure the lights are the same

You not got a manual, it will tell you in that. If its gone out probably just a temporary glitch, but best get ecu interorgated

Which one? The bottom right??

if it's the bottom right one then it's SMG/gearbox/clutch related.
If the it's the red one next to it then it's your tyre pressure monitoring (that can light up red or yellow depending on situation)

SMG fault, just keep your eye on it, it can light up occasionally, mainly on the track when being driven hard

Agree to an extent with Steve ^^^
I have had this twice before - once recently whilst at the Ring: I started the car in between laps and had the same light, so turned the ignition off, removed key, re-inserted and tried again and the light had gone... The first time was last year and also went with no problems since.
I think it is more of an SMG 'confusion wiggly' (technical term) which shows up usually when the car has been thrashed! I don't think it's anything to get too concerned about - but then i'm not a qualified mechanic of course! I'm sure a BMW Stealership would do next to nowt with such a fault and charge you £££ for the privilege of its 'investigation' work...

Would this sort of investigative work be covered under warranty mate?

I don't see why not. I suppose it depends on what warranty excess you have and whether you want to pay it for such a 'investigation'. I have a £100 excess on mine and don't think it's worth it...
If i have any minor concerns about my car, i usually ask them to take a look as part of a routine Oil Service or Inspection.
I personally would'nt worry about that light unless it kept occuring or stayed illuminated - It isn't a red light after all...
