View Full Version : Who uses their CSL everyday?

As above please, what are they like to live with everyday, I only do short journeys everyday, mostly in traffic with a short burst of dual carriageway, I'm wondering not doing a great deal of work will hurt the car?

Also what are the Cup tyres like to live with in winter? :bigcry:

Thanks

Yep, everyday. My only car, although I have the GSXR for when it is really warm and dry! I find it great, I live for the noise of that lovely straight-six. 10K miles in slightly less than a year, so far. I don't have any dramas but my wife hates it as it is too 'harsh'.

I would suggest you don't do cups in the winter just because they don't like standing water or temps below 6 degrees. I'm borrowing a 997RS on cups at the moment while the CSL is having the ventureshield redone. It feels very edgy!

yup no bother to live with day to day, mine has been my only car for the past 2 years and i still cant wait to drive it everyday. Mine has just covered 57500k now and running very well. in reality i don't think a CSL is anymore difficult to live with than an M3 the seats are a bit fiddley and it marginally worse on fuel.i've just taken cups off for the winter, they are not to bad in the cold IMO but cold and wet and they just don't give enough braking distance.

Its my daily, covering 14 miles a day to work. Apart from the SSBB at 5.30am waking the neighbours, I feel like im killing it with the short journeys, battery & ticking over the Inspection trip quicker! Im still on the search for daily over the winter. Plus I find driving the CSL everyday makes me feel as if I need something a little more  for weekend action, as its my only way of popping to the shops. So when stepping in the CSL after a week+ it will make me appreciate it even more!

Ah thats good to know then, I feel a bit guilty about only doing something like 5 miles a day round trip to work and back, but what's my options, not have one? I dont think so! :bigcry: lol

Fuel I'm not to worried about, i'm used to the M3 guzzling it on ocassions plus I'm not buying a CSL to save the environment ;)

The one i'm looking at doesn't have cups on i so thats cool, I think i'll save my pennies and get some cups put on when global warming gets into it's stride in the new year!

I used mine for 6 months everyday and then went back to using my Cooper S everyday. Problem is when it is wet outside I use the Mini now as I don't want to get the CSL out but I feel it is a waste having the CSL sat in the garage when it should be used everyday!!!

The mini is up for sale now so I have to use the CSL everday:smt055

My car is on 27k now so even when it gets to 50k it will be worth maybe a few £1000's less but I will of had the enjoyment of using it:supz:

For me there is no point in getting a lesser car as daily driver, i would never use it, life is too short - CSL's are made for driving so just get on and enjoy it, it is after all only a BMW and short hop's to work etc are all part of the engineering tolerances. Unless of course you have plans to moth ball the perfect example and by that i mean virtually no miles and no options, i wouldn't worry.

I've just started using it everyday. My drive is also really short, only about 4 miles. Not that much of a hassle at all really; just got to treat it nice till the engine warms up (which it doesnt by the end of the drive), and watch out for the seats when going in/out. I am running Eagle F1's so cant comment about cups in winter...

Only other annoying this as a DD is the SMG in auto mode, it never does what I would like it to do.

The alternative Dan, is to turn your 5 mile journey into a 20 mile one with some interesting roads!

Good news then guys, I wondered if it would clog it up so to speak but I guess CSL's are a little more sophisticated than that! :hahaha:

Glad others are in the same boat with short journeys, my current M3 doesn't heat up by the time i've got to work! :bigcry:

Good news is that it shouldn't be far away so can't wait! :supz:

Just because others on here use there cars for short journeys does not mean thats its good for the car.

Most of the cars we see in our garage with problems are cars that potter about and most journeys are below 4-5 miles. Short stop start journeys are killers for any car, a csl will be no different. TBH though I would not worry, just dont drive it hard until oil is warmed up, so if you only use it for short journeys and thats it, the csl is probably not the car for you, however if you intend to use the car as it should be used then you will love the csl.

Shock !!! Horror !!! :smt103 but I have to agree with U + it seems such a waste of a car (CSL) :smt017 just to sit in few short miles worth of rush hour traffic. Each to their own, but I love the fact that I use another car for Daily Donkey work and have the CSL for FUN use, weekend or otherwise  Makes me appreciate what a Fantastic bit of Kit the CSL really is

I use mine as a daily car, but only for 6 months of the year, if that makes sense. The other 6 are spent in Brasil with the car sat in the garage. I cannot justify having 2 cars lying about the house while I spend half my life out of the country so I just have the CSL. I use it for everything, and the boot WILL take half a dozen bags of post mix which I had to run down to the town for in the summer as an emergency. So, my worries of stuff falling through the floor have long gone!

It is a great all rounder, I couldn't have done that with a Porsche or something similar. Especially having 4 seats and a good boot. The trip to Ireland and back there last week really brought my love for the car back to the surface, apart from the speeding fine but hey, part and parcel I suppose.

No mate, I was still in Scotland when I was caught. End of the Average Speed cameras on the A77 to Stranraer. I thought I would open her up a bit for the last few miles...the Plod had obviously seen this before. :banghead: Silly boy really! :bigcry:

I take it you seen a CSL sat at the side of the road after being tugged by the Plod in Eire?

DuncanR

That bit of the A77 is a real no no as far as plod, but a lovely piece of road ! Didnt see a CSL in Eire, but be warned about that particular bit of road mate, got caught there in my Volvo T5 giving it the beans on a skinny spacesaver tyre ! Load of bollox that the max speed on them is 55mph... did 130 no probs !:hahaha:

I feel sorry for my car after reading this thread, i've not driven my car now for over 3 months. I only drive it on weekends and if the weather is bad it stays indoors. My regular run around is a MK5 Golf R32.

I appreciate what your getting at mate, it was obviously my inital concern, I don't drive my current M3 until it's warmed up properly and at least a couple of mornings/nights a week the car will get a good run down the local dual carriageways for different things

I do intend to take the car abroad and maybe even try a track day and see how it goes so the car certainly won't be stuck in town 100% of the time, no way ;)

Mine is used every day for a 70 mile commute, well it was until I broke my hand last week and now I'm not allowed to drive... :banghead:

Anyway, once I removed the Miltek exhaust it's been geat to commute in. The HiFi is rubbish but the induction noise makes up for that. The seats are comfy once adjusted to suit and the ride is better than the 335i on 19" runflats I swapped for it.

For me I'm not bothered about the miles as it will still depreciate less than a modern car and be much more fun. Driving it every day is like always having the toy at the right time to enjoy the right mood / road. I have a nice weather toy stashed away for fun use, but can't be arsed to get it out as the weather is never nice and I realisticaly just don't have time to go out of my way to use it.

Just my thoughts...

I plan on getting one of these in Jan but I have another car so this will be a weekend car.

I do 30K plus a year. My E90 325 is showing 107000 on the clock. I wouldn't want to do that on a car as special as a CSL.
