Hi,
I would like to try and organize a group buy for this exhaust.
So far, from the previous thread, I have come up with this list, would like to know if anyone else is interested in getting one too, as the more the better. I'm not sure if we're enough to warrant a group buy as of yet...

Prices I have found online range from £1000 to £1200 Exc. VAT
BTW anyone who is on an M3 forum could make a similar thread and join the group buys together...

I'm still up for a good deal on Supersprint Noise Solutions but I might have to wimp out for the slightly quieter option

Remember that I already have Supersprint 100 cell Race cats + stainless middle section on my CSL  so with the Supersprint Race light weight back box as well, I reckon I'll be very unwelcomed at most Track Days, especially Bedford Autodrome

Ah bollocks then ... i best have one !:hahaha: ... but does THE noise come from exhaust, or air induction ...or a combination of both as in .... get the exhaust out more efficiently and air goes in quicker ..and noiser ?

youll get some exhaust note as well as induction roar Duncan
it may affect the noise inside the car but if you keep standard centre section this seems to be best bet to avoid headaches!
bhp improvements virtually NONE but youll save quite a few kgs

I need to hear one of these in the flesh methinks ... and make a judgement... so assuming my complete auspuffer system is stock, (I suppose i ought to check what i have first !) what do you Guru's recommend? So far I have retain OEM centre section to prevent the old pain in der kopf.

what do you Guru's recommend?
Standard system - except backbox, the perfect compromise between achieving a little extra aggression under acceleration whilst minimising additional cabin drone.
My system is ideal imho: Standard + SS lightweight race rear silencer = 97db on noise tests.

I hear U Rob, but I don't have that option of Standard Cats & middle section and would like to utilise what I do have already. Last thing I want is to end up loosing my money on another Back box experiment, which makes my CSL too loud and unbearable, like the Milltek MK2 saga.:bigcry: Last time I was measured for noise was @ Brands Hatch, it was 89 dB with SS 100 cell Racing Cats, SS middle section and O.E. CSL specific but heavy, back box . I'm guessing here but with the SS Race light weight + my existing set up I'm going to be at around 100 dB, if not more, hence the slightly more sensible Supersprint option

Isn't that the place where standard CSLs have been banned for 'induction noise' on approach to the sound level meters? AlexGTT may well be along soon with a little rant about his experience... lol :hahaha:
I can't say that it's a TD venue itch that i'm dying to scratch. I would much sooner try Anglesey or Silverstone before Bedford. Or just do Oulton or the Ring some more... ;)

Hi Matt,
Thanks for making contact.
The 043926 is not held in stock in the UK. I have phoned the main importer and they also don't have it. I have contacted Supersprint Italy asking if they have it readily available and if they do it will take approximately 10-14 days to arrive on the next scheduled stock order. It' snot very often they are also out of stock of something but t has been known. So I never assume they do have everything.
The silencer weighs approximately 18.5kg
Delivery is £10
Total price would be £1088.17 including the VAT and delivery
I will email you again upon receiving stock confirmation from Italy.
Regards,
Steve

Hi Matt,
Supersprint have replied to me with availability. Unfortunately they don't have this available in stock. I was right not to assume a 10 day wait!
They won't have a batch of these produced until the end of February. So I would say approximately the 1st week in March for delivery to you, should you still want to place an order.
Sorry I couldn't supply you this in time for the track day you have booked.
Many thanks

Hi there $w!ft, Alexk and other wan-a-be Supersprint back box owners.
I've had an up data today from Supersprint UK and they have 5 Race "Lightweight" boxes in UK stock, ready to dispatch. Best price (if we pay direct to their Bank account, instead of via Pay Pal is £1173.28, inclusive of VAT and UK mainland postage ( £1198.03 if you pay via Pay Pal) I'm swaying towards this version due to the luck of availability of the "Race" type I originally wanted and shortage of patience on my part . Yep... it's well priced alright + available for immediate UK dispatch. I'm ready to buy but as yet NO one has given me a definitive answer with regards to noise limits/levels which still concern me. I wish there was someone running the same set up us me and could tell me what dB reading they had on the last Track Day. I know Rob has the Race "lightweight" on his CSL but the rest of his exhaust is O.E. stock. By the time I get a Supersprint back box I'll be running a full Supersprint set up. In all seriousness, what exhaust components are U running on yours Shimmy ? and what dB numbers have U been recording ?

not sure how serious i can be but mine si stil stock but Race SS ready to go on.
Woppum has run the full SS race exhaust for a few years and only Bedford has occassionally chucked him off It passes 101 static easily but can be on the limit on the 87.5db at 20m drive by. But that is LOW

I appreciate that Shimmy ... but as I feared all along, Bedford is going to be a No! No! Shame as I'm planing a visit on the 30th of Jan. for a mates Birthday bash. Maybe I should be more patient and wait till the end of February for the Race version to arrive which should pose none of the noise issues of the lightweight type.

Bloody Hell whats all the fuss about ;)
Mine has the SS race lightweight back box, 100 cell race cats, and the rest is miltek ( one bit from my race car ) so its pretty much a full mix after market race system:whistle:
Had varying db readings ever since, depends on day, weather, circuits, tester and testing equipment, your never gonna buy a system or back box and say its 95 and its 95 forever more :clown:
Mine has read between 95 and 101 and is never the same from one to the other, so moral of the story is ...
If you want one buy one, and dont worry too much as you'll be fine with just the Box, be careful at bedford, and go to all the other many tracks that you will be OK, if your not tracking heavily, then you have no issue... !!

If I didn't have heavy Tracking plans for 2010 I wouldn't mention it at all... but I do, and don't fancy being turned away from numerous TDs like Bedford (closest to me) or Castle Combe (which is quite strict about noise levels too) and lose the money paid for TD + fuel money & time. I've failed @ CC before in my Porker 928 @ 124 dB :bigcry: (must be a record) and had to beg & borrow a standard back box, off a m8's 928. Best part of the morning wasted faffing about swapping back boxes in the car park, only to scrape through the noise levels @ 98 dB and then another few hours wasted swapping everything back to as it was, at the end of a long day. That, in a few words is what all the fuss is about

Seriously though, DazBlackCSL runs Supersprint Race Lightweight backbox, Miltek centre pipe, Race 100 cell cats as well as Supersprint lightweight manifold iirc. He has not had any issues to date and he likes taking his CSL to race tracks! It's only Bedford that can on occasion prove to be rather anal. You therefore simply book TDs that have a higher db limit if you really are that concerned and losing sleep over the issue... Now stop making a 'mountain out of a molehill' and make a decision!

I have done most of the tracks last year, always did a standard track day on each race weekend prior to my testing in the race car on the friday.
I was in my road CSL with a FULL system, 100 cell cats (SS) Race Light Back Box (SS) and the rest is Miltek, in fact one piece was off my race car, and at Combe I measured 97, the rest between 95 and 101... still not sure what all the fuss is about, and as the others have said stop worrying about the lightweight one.
The above is FACT and I have NEVER been thrown off any of the circuits last season in my road car ;)

Ref the PF group buy, we sorted a price and a deal for 5 and 10 and in the end only 1 person bought (which we did for the GB price so lost money). No big deal but you can see how things fall apart.
As for a SS buy, what exactly do people want? There are about 7 options from rear boxes, decats, cats, cross overs, if I can at least get an idea then I can ask SS for better prices.
All the options are listed here on our site:
http://www.thorneymotorsport.co.uk/products/index.php?cPath=1329_1637_2086_2090
If we can create a list what people actually want I can see what they will do ref pricing.

I think its a shame as our money went else where.
I would have preferred it to have gone to a forum dealer/supplier.

OK John... here below is an e-mail from Steve @ Supersprint UK, the lowest quote I've managed to get is £1173.28 all in (until the Evolve deal came along today). What can U do the same Supersprint Race "Lightweight" back box for ?
Hi Matt
The price on my website for the lightweight race silencer is £1,198.03 including VAT. That is an already heavily discounted price of 20% from the RRP. The RRP is a whopping £1,497.54
I could bring the price down slightly more, to £1173.28 including delivery and VAT (mainland UK delivery) but to qualify for this price I would ask that money was transferred direct to my account. If you were to order and pay through my website, Paypal take 2.9% of the transaction value. Bypassing Paypal and going direct to my bank account would save me paying the 2.9% fee, meaning I can pass this on. How does this sound? You can imagine how many emails I receive from people asking for a better price. I give them this same option for payment. Either way a VAT invoice will be supplied.
The importer currently has 5 of these lightweight race silencers in stock.
Thanks
Steve

I will assume thats referring to me?
Simple, Evolve said they were doing a deal (that looked very good), I spoke with Sal and said I wouldnt try and just drive the price down and if he'd sorted a deal I wasnt in the business of just stealing the business (even though I pay to be a site sponsor here). Then you post about ECP offering a better deal. ECP are the distie for the SS system and Sal rightly thought that was out of order and frankly I agreed. SS want the rights to sell our manifold for the CSL and I said that I'd heard that they were competing with other retailers on deals like this and that wasn't how we wanted to do business. I assumed you had your exhaust.
Thank you for posting it though, we will not allow ECP to sell our manifold, I wont deal with a company who cant be trusted. I see it from both ends, TMS are the distie for Milltek Vauxhall systems, we offer trade discounts and will do group buys for people, but if we hear of a group buy that one of our retailers are offering we will not swoop in there to pick up the business - thats not what a distributor does. ECP asked to sell our manifolds (which are WW exclusive to TMS), we were in the middle of negotiations for it for ECP to sell it and this happens. What would you do? I didnt kill your deal for your exhaust or for anyone elses for that matter, indeed I even stood by when a competitor sorted a deal on a site where we are a sponsor as frankly it was a good price and whilst I could match it I couldnt beat it so I left it.

Will speak to ECB on Monday, the first I've heard of this is tonight. Certainly the idea of competing with a distie is not right but then if a member of a site we are sponsoring gets his deal cancelled thats not right either.

Hi John. I hope you'll appreciate I was trying to be discrete about it all as I only had a view from one side of this deal. No matter how infuriating it was to have my £££ turned away due to ECP's big clients disapproval, it clearly demonstrates that if I kept this deal more private, p.m.ed only the guys who wanted to know, I would be a proud owner of a shiny NEW Supersprint RACE lightweight back box and you & Evolve would have been none the wiser. Instead, silly old me, I was trying to be a nice guy, openly sharing info on a good deal with all CSLregister members, that was available for immediate UK delivery, at a great price, direct from the sole importer. I though this forum was one place people would appreciate such info.
For the record, my SS RACE light weight back box did arrive on the Thursday morning but it was badly damaged (right on one of the tips so would have been very visible, once on the car). ECP Cambridge promised to supply another one for the following morning, only to later that same day, call me back to inform me that they had to go back on their price promise with me (due to the above mentioned) and dropped the deal. To be honest this whole matter has left an unpleasant aftertaste and I'm not quite sure what your phone call to ECP on Monday is going to achieve.

No, not good at all . It's not everyday someone is willing to spend £1200 of the hard earned on a fancy exhaust they don't really need, only to end up back at where they started, feeling deflated. Worry not, I'll get over it ;)

Just so we are clear over this, the supply of your exhaust was not something we had any interest in, indeed Evolve set a price, that was a good price so I left it (despite being the supposed sole site sponsor here so Evolve got buisness without contributing as we do). However that not the point the deal was done, it was a good deal for the members here so I left it.
Independantly from that we have been having a long conversation (dating back to early Jan at Autosport) in the ECP wanted to sell the manifiold and we said we would do it if we could sort the right terms. We were at the end of this negotiation when this happened. When I heard I said to Christian (who was handling the negotiation on our behalf) that I had no interest in dealing with a supplier who competed with its own retailers (in this case Evolve) and that we should pull out, which we did. ECP came back saying the price sorted was 'unauthorised' and it wouldnt happen again. That was currently how we left it, I was told you got your exhaust which was fair enough and I wasn't about to spend the time sorting a GB for the forum here when someone had already approached Evolve so I left it.
If they supplied you an exhaust for a cheap price (lets be clear here, the price you paid is actually less than I pay as a retailer!) so you should get your exhaust, which is a point I will make to ECP on Tuesday (I'm off Monday).
My plan on Tuesday is to speak to ECP to find out what happened and resolve it so everyone can get a good deal or walk away.
As regards your comment on 'keeping quiet', well I'll reserve my comment until after I've spoken to ECP, if the price was dodgy then you may have just got lucky which is fair enough, if ECP pricing model is sell below what they sell to retailers at then also fair enough but it means retailers like us will refuse to supply it, will refuse to work with it and develop other tuning around it and frandkly will refuse to offer advice about its use.
Lets see what they say on Tuesday, my hope is that they are willing to sort a deal for everyone.

No idea mate, as I said this is the first I've heard of it, I dont understand the term 'unauthorised' which is my main concern. RRP is fine as its just recommended, but if the distie is selling at less than we pay as a retailer then we might as well not sell it.
Frustrating thing for me generally is that I spend about 4hrs a day on the phone/on forums giving advice and a high proportion of that information is just taken and people then go and buy from the cheapest place they can - human nature I guess. For example, I'm pretty sure the guy at ECP wouldnt be able to give advice about O2 sensors when fitting SS exhausts, or the effect on warranty in the case of a map, or what tracks in the UK you'd be OK driving on for noise etc etc. But its the way of the World I guess.

"Price Fixing" is highly illegal as BMW & B.A. (both huge multi-international companies) found out few years ago. Both were sued for "P.F." and lost, big time.

Happens to us all the time John, you do the leg work, work to get a good deal as a retailer only to find the supplier selling for same price to joe public, that they sell to you for, even though you do the leg work, promote item, give advice recommendations and general product support for item:banghead:
Think they just generally use retailer as a free advert, and free product support, advice line,
Unfortunately John, this is the trouble with the medium of internet, everything becomes transparent.
PS hows the slag coming on,

Hi John,
I think the most challenging thing for a customer when dealing with you is the response times.
Unfortunately, I cannot call everyday to ask for car parts (thus the pms and emails).
It feels bad when no one replies (for 1-2-10 days / other than I will sort this out) and it's coming to a point that I feel that I am begging a company to sell me stuff.
I guess I have to sell the front APs and stick with the OEM ones.

I have a meeting with ECP next week about it. They are adamant (and have forwarded me the internal email chain about it) that the price was unauthorised and (frankly) they are pretty upset that any of their people was doing such a thing. However, I've pointed out that there are a few members here who are interested in buying the exhausts and wouldnt it be nice to sort a deal for members here as a result. I'm doing my best.

I've never had such difficulty spending £1200 in my life :hahaha: Silly old me :clown: for trying to share useful information that would have benefited many others wanting a good deal. I guess I should have kept my mouth shut, gone behind every ones back and not mentioned a thing about it, but I didn't think that was the spirit of this forum
Not having read this thread before (as I'm happy with my std exhaust), I'm really surprised. I wondered how it had run to 18 odd pages and I can see why. Do we really think we can play off distributers against importers and it not all go pear shaped?
There is an element of using a group buy to wangle the max discount for the item you're after and then for people after the same thing, but people have to make a living and margins will be small. I read the comments above as directed at John too and unfairly really; he has to run a business (and is sponsoring this site), any apologies in the making?
